Steelers Trade up to get Bush

Technically, it is bitching to an extent, as I feel that type of move should be reserved for acquiring a QB, OT, edge or CB.

The exception would be if the player at a position of need is considered a rare, exceptional talent by the drafting team.

The Steelers feel that way about Bush, IMO, as they did about Polamalu is 2003.

He does have a similar combination of athleticism and intangibles.

I cannot complain too much, however, because the Steelers are trying to win now and Bush gives them what they needed most

I think the Steelers are in win now mode. They identified ILB as the biggest need (it is) and they identified Bush is the guy to fill that hole. I like Bush and think his learning curve will not be as big as whites so I feel we got the better player. But I don’t know if I would have pulled that trigger. I am not bashing because they had to move to 10 to jump Cincinnati to get him. But I think I would have stayed put.

The suit was kinda a miss, but the tears of joy and happiness over-seeded that. It takes a humble man to show real emotion and let loose. The backstory of his brother designing it is even better. We can only hope all of the hype and price was worth it for him to be the player he should be in the NFL. Nothing is for certain and can change in a blink of an eye, but you have to give it up to the FO for going for it and to be "all in". If we can move into the 2nd round to get another big need(CB, TE or WR), this draft will be one to remember.

The thought of Bush destroying OBJ, Bell, AJ Green or AB over the middle puts a smile on my face.
 
People keep saying we gave up three premium picks. No we did not.
We swapped our 20th for Broncos 10’th which is not giving up a premium pick but moving into top 10.
We gave up one premium pick, our 2nd rounder today and a most likely a 3rd round comp pick next year.
That’s not three premium picks given up. Geez, we didn’t just send our pick 20 and get nothing. We traded spots.

He's a special player. Yes it cost us to move up to get him, but we got our guy. Now we can sit back and fill those other needs but don't have to worry about that sore spot on our defense.
 
Considering some of the complete whiffs we've had recently in the upper rounds, losing a two to get a guy most see and an instant impact player is good with me. If they stayed at 20 we would have gotten the scrap heap that was left sitting there, any pick is a maybe until they see the field. A 2 and a 3 even more so. Time will tell, but for a change I like what they did on day one.

But not only is he athletic, and speedy. and instinctual. He was productive, and not just in a one year setting.

Add into the equation that he has NFL blood lines and the Steelers got one hell of a player. Which is no surprise when you look at Edmunds, and Watt. You can see what they are trying to build on defense. Fast try hard players. You get enough of them and good things.

A few of you might be thinking b b but what about getting off blocks? Shazier had some problem in that area too. And he developed well, most would say. Bush has the speed and the athleticism to see the potential block and quickly move in position to get around it. Always more than one way to skin a cat.


Now get out your box of tissue and enjoy his family's tribute to their son and brother, who made them proud.

Yeah, this kid isn't Antonio "Dead to Me" Brown. He comes from character and you see it clearly runs through the family in this video.

I wake up this morning the happiest I've been as a Steelers fan since January. Was it expensive, yes. Good things are. You still have two picks where the possible starters come from. Every position is full next year. I would say they need a backup TE yet. They should have room next year to backfill some positions in FA. But even if Dupree isn't great, they have an elite force unit in my opinion. Probably top 5.

The definition of premium picks is subjective, but I consider them to be within the first three rounds.

Regardless, the Steelers used a 1st, 2nd and 3rd on one player.

I like Bush, but he's going to have to he more than decent for the Steelers to get sufficient return on the investment.
 
I don't really watch college ball all that much. With all the Bush hype. I was expecting to see this guy run over players like a Mack truck. What I saw was the opposite, lacking strength, No question Bush has some serious skills, Watching Bush's highlights I noticed he has to pick up players to get them to the ground, and rely on help from teammates.

Looking at his below average Bench stat's makes sense. It appears he lacks arm and upper body strength. Something he needs to work on. I just hope this guy pans out and the strength issue doesn't become a problem.

Well they didn't really lose a first, but i get what your saying...They basically gave up a 2nd and next years 3rd. If he turns into a Shazier type it was definitely worth it. Regardless i am glad they were aggressive and at least tried
 
Not a huge fan of this pick and the move up for him...

To me he is another Mark Barron but younger...

We still to solidify our strength up the middle IMHO...

If Mack Wilson drops to us...take him..

Also Cashman and Traquill can be had late today or tomorrow as an "insurance policy" to the Bush pick..

We need to get this right and I dont mind using another pick on an ILB to do it..

Obviously they drafted him to be more than decent player. They drafted him to be Probowl, All Pro. But you cannot with certainty say that Bosa will be more than decent anymore than you can say Bush will be. There never be consensus about something like this. They were aggressive. They went and got a player I'm very excited about and it costed a lot. Kinda end of story. Hope he is GREAT.
 
I just hope Bush can learn Tomlins complicated defensive schemes so he can play more than 50% of the snaps. And I hope his head isn't too big.

I think Vinnie is a pretty sure tackler, too.

I'm not sure what his annual pay is, but I think his salary cap is $6m/year.

the bottom line is White has the frame to be a prototypical ilb, but we don’t need a prototypical one. If bush was two inches taller, he goes higher than White and we probably miss out on both... if he can learn to use his athleticism to combat taller tes like troy did, then this guy has all pro potential... and that kind of value was worth what we gave up

Agreed. Like the pick. Glad to see Steelers move up for guy they targeted.
 
people keep pointing out how good Bush is as the justification. That's not the point. They traded up and drafted a guy in the top 10. Obviously that player will be a much better prospect than whoever could be had at 20. By that logic, they should just trade into the top 10 every single year, right?

This is all about what they lost.

My goal is to win the Super Bowl this year. To make that happen, i feel they needed ILB, CB, Safety, WR, RB and TE that can all play this year.

They had 3 picks in the top 66 and 4 in the top 83. They should have been able to get 4 upgraded starters with those picks. Now you have 2 3rd rounders where they will have to hit on a CB and probably have to pick a safety.

To me, losing the 2nd rounder means they likely won't address RB or WR and it means they have to be right on CB and S with later picks. I'm not optimistic with that given their atrocious track record drafting DBs under Tomlin


The way I see it, you now better hope James Washington, Bud, and Sean Davis all step up to become good starters, or at least much better starters than they've been. You also better hope Conner doesn't get injured.

I know people love Conner, but I think he's just a workhorse back. I would have liked an upgrade. Maybe Miles Sanders, Damien Harris, or David Montgomery.

I'm not sold on Steven Nelson as the solution to the secondary. I'm not sure Edmunds will be a great player. He did OK last year but did you see anything that made you say Wow. Polamalu didn't play much as a rookie, but he did have Wow moments in preseason. It was obvious he'd be a difference maker. Did we see any of that with Edmunds?


Let's see what they do tonight. Maybe they can make some more trades and get a 2nd rounder back. Maybe they'll get lucky and DBs will keep sliding.
