Kyler Murray. Top college quarterback. How will he do in the NFL?

I'm guessing Murray be one of the major draft stories. I admit to being a fan of his in college but can be an NFL quarterback at 5'10" tall, with a semi-low release?

Pro: He looks more like a quick point guard type of quarterback. Tough to sack, quick and elusive and as runner. The arm looks very good, but not great. Accuracy is impressive but a bit inflated due to the system he is in. Many of the mobile types of QBs are not accurate, Murray is. Seems like a good leader.

Con: He looks like he won't be able to take too many hits given his size, and playing style and that is a problem as he likes to run the ball. Might struggle to throw over the middle in the short to medium range due to his height. Offensive coordinator will need to move him around to open up his passing windows. Fumbled 3 times last year, losing two of them. Only one year of production in the BIG 12, which isn't exactly known for defense. Production as a freshman in the SEC was poor.

Coach's call: He'll energize the fan base, and might be a top 15-20 type of QB for a few years, but he's not a franchise type of QB. Most likely to be picked inside the top 16, which means he won't be going to a good team. I think Miami will roll the dice on him. To succeed I think Murray is going to need Drew Brees quick reads and lack to overcome his lack of size as a passer. My thoughts are a late first round to second round type of talent, but he's a quarterback.

Teams should wise up on QB's. If your former first-round pick isn't very good ( Say not a top 15 guy ) after 3-4 seasons, don't be foolish and pay him 20+ million with a long term deal with a tremendous hit on the cap if you cut him! Just do not re-sign the QB, and pick a new QB in round one. It's much cheaper and allows the team to build in other areas.

What is his head size?

Smaller than yours? I dunno, sometimes the QB's who pick #1 as their jersey numbers have big heads. A better question is, what is his wonderlic score. Below 17, and you have a problem. Most NFL teams want at least a 21. If you're on Kordell level, forgetaboutit!

Pass. He’s 5’8 if he’s lucky. I know size has not deterred Russ or Brees, but this dude is seriously diminutive. His college system allowed him to throw to wide open receivers all day. I just don’t trust that he has the stature and arm strength to make all the throws into tight windows, or that he can avoid injury

He lacks ideal NFL size, but he’s taller than 5’8”.

This morning, they said he's 5'10", 185 lbs. I thought Baker Mayfield was pushing it at 6'1". I hope he does well, but he has a lot of obstacles.

Was he measured? I heard the local radio guy in South Florida who meet Kyler say he's the same height as him. 5'9" tall.

5'9", 5'10"? I think that is short for a QB. Hell, I'm 5'5" and I'd get broken in the NFL. I couldn't see over the refs and he's not much taller than I am. lol

I can't see a guy 5'10 a buck 85 lasting as a primay target on offense either, so he's going to need to learn how to side when he runs and avoid big hits. Lucky for him the NFL rules now protect Qb's a bit better.

Fans may say, yes but Russell Wilson is short. He's built like a running back and has 20 pounds on Murray. If your 5'9 or 5'10" thrown over players at 6'5" your are going to have some issues with passing windows over the middle.

Presumably deflected passes will be a problem for him in a pro-style offense. But I think he's a pure passer type, with quick feet. Someone is rolling the dice on him before pick #20, otherwise, he'd stick with baseball

drew brees doesn't seem to have much trouble with batted balls. For as tall as Ben is he seems to get a few tipped. I would not be concerned with his height, but he has a slight frame. I am not sure if that will be an issue or not. As long as his mental game is above average i think he will work out

Love his arm, skill set and ability but he will not be a long term NFL starter at his size. His height bothers me but his frme bothers me way more. He will not stand up to the NFL beatings and he will always have problem finding throwing lanes. I think he will have some immediate success due to his quickness and arm strength but as the film on him grows he will struggle and be a middling QB at best.

I think he can be a good QB, but has to go to the right team. Gonna need some quality offensive weapons around him early on. I don't think he's a guy who's going to step in and elevate the talent around him.

Brees is 2 inches taller. Murray will never be a great QB IMHO. He's small, short and won't have the luxury of having wide open WRs and the best OL in football.

didn't they say the same thing about Doug Flutie? I have to admit I'm pulling for the kid.

Sounds like the Cardinals are hoping some one gives up the farm for their #1 overall pick.

Can AB drive a tractor and plant potatos, if so....................................I'd give up the the farmer

Salute the nation

Flutie was an average at best QB. Murray may end up being an average QB but I doubt it. Can't blame him for trying.

I would not draft any of these air raid offense QBs in the 1st. You have to teach them from scratch.

Murray is too small, not just short. Wilson is short but he’s thick. Mike Vick and RG3 couldn’t stay healthy with small frames. If you are going to make the guy a pocket passer and not have him run, then why draft him at all?

Because he is going to revolutionize the QB position!!!

I'll say this though, if i was a team without a QB, I would not be afraid of drafting a bust. If you do, you just move on. 10 years ago, being wrong on a 1st round QB would set you back years and if he was a top 5 pick it would screw your cap for years.

Guys like Stafford and Bradford were the highest paid guys in the NFL before they took a snap. You had to be damn sure on a guy to draft him high.

But now that they have the rookie cap, it's just a blip on the radar if a guy is a bust. Arizona drafted Rosen last year and cap-wise they can afford to draft another QB this year in the 1st if they don't like Rosen.

I would never draft Murray, but I can understand a team being aggressive and taking a chance.

I don't like Haskins either. He's not a QB. He's a thrower. He does have a great arm and can make all the throws but I don't think he's a pressure player.
