That may be the first mock I have seen without Greedy Williams in the top half of the first round.

Using Walter football's latest mock draft, create one for the Steelers.
No trades. You can only pick a player that is on the board when the Steelers select. I will be posing the Walter Football comments of the players I choose, you are welcome to do the same.

Round 1 ) NT/DT Christian Wilkins
. Every top Steeler defense always had a very good to great DT/NT. I think the value is best here. Wilkins could play the Nose on 1st and likely running downs, and DT on all 4 man fronts.

In 2018, Wilkins totaled 50 tackles with 14 for a loss, 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He totaled 60 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks in 2017. Wilkins is disruptive at the point of attack, showing the speed to create havoc behind the line of scrimmage. He is a great athlete for his size and has the versatility to play a variety of techniques. His speed and athleticism make him a fit for three-technique in a 4-3. He could also fit as a 3-4 defensive end and even play some nose tackle. The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder possesses a nice skill set with upside.

Wilkins played well for Clemson in 2016 as part of a tough defensive line that controlled the point of attack. The sophomore had 48 tackles with 13 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and 10 passes batted on the year. Because of injuries, Wilkins played a lot of defensive end. He showed nice athleticism and versatility, but is at his best on the inside, using his mismatch speed against guards. Wilkins made 33 tackles and two sacks as a freshman in 2015.

Round 2 ) Cornerback Julian Love. We need a fast corner with ball skills, who produced. Love fits the bill.

Cornerback was a big issue last offseason, but general manager Brian Gaine failed to improve the position. In fact, he made it worse by signing bust free agent addition Aaron Colvin to a big contract. The Texans' corners were terrible in 2018, and they need a lot of upgrades at the position.

In 2018, Love totaled 63 tackles with 16 passes broken up and an interception. He played really well for the Fighting Irish and was an unsung hero of their defense. Love also had a strong 2017 season for Notre Dame, totaling 68 tackles with three interceptions and 20 passes broken up. Because of his size, Love would be a better fit as a slot corner. He is very fast with impressive ball skills and instincts.

Round 3 ) Defensive back Joejuan Williams. I think he'd make a fine free safety

In speaking with team sources, they are intrigued by Williams. Some sources have said they graded Williams in the third to fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 208-pounder has excellent size to match up with big receivers and showed some impressive quickness to break on the ball while running with the Ole Miss big receivers of A.J. Brown and DaMarkus Lodge. Williams came through with an interception late in the fourth quarter and a pass breakup on fourth down in overtime to clinch the win for Vanderbilt over the Rebels. In 2018, Williams totaled 61 tackles, four interceptions and 13 passes broken up.

A draft like this would upgrade a very poor defensive backfield, and add extra toughness vs. the run. Free agency would be needed to upgrade ILB

He might not be as fast as the NFL would like.

I would love that draft, one condition though, Tomlin stops with using 2Dlinemen. Imagine a pass rushing front of Cam, Wilkins, Hargrave, Tuitt with Watt coming from anywhere. That line would get one hell of a push and would do great vs draws and any other running plays offenses would run from the spread.

Amen to that. No more 2 Defensive Lineman on the field formations.

1. Dexter Lawrence, NT.
Done. DL is fixed.

2. Mack Wilson, ILB.
LB corp is hopefully fixed.

3. Joejuan Williams, CB

I think it comes down to who you think you can get in FA with the $ you have. If you can get an ILB, no need for one in rounds 1 or 2 and you are fine with the above, although I don't think we need another FS...But if you can get a CB, you gotta find a good LB in the first couple of rounds. Looks like there are a couple of decent prospects at either #20 or #52.

1 Byron Murphy, CB , Washington. I like Burns (OLB) too from what was available, but I think Murphy will be a solid cover cornerback in the NFL. Arguably one of the biggest Steelers weaknesses. I still resign Sens and let them battle for the early start.

2 Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina. Even with Antonio, Washington brings question marks. And without AB, you will need two bodies.I think Deebo's best football is ahead of him. Some could argue he will be gone top of two. Bottom 1. Simply gives Ben another weapon. (Also I am not sold on Mack Wilson ILB)

3 : Devin Bush, LB, Michigan - A playmaker, with Burnett wanting out I upgrade the position. I stayed away from FS as I think the Steelers like Davis there. With the heavy S packages the Steelers use this pick doesn't prevent the Steelers from bringing in a ILBer.

Lot going on here with AB possibly leaving, Bell $14.5 mill in pocket, restructure Ben, 2019 cap etc. I'd personally love a disruptive NT in round 1 if the scheme is to revert to trad. 3-4 which imo we need to look at. If it doesn't, I feel a FA CB is bigger need than a FA ILB. Pierre Desir may be a complement to Haden and not break the bank. And if a force at edge is sitting at #20, I don't see how you not consider parting with Dupree's 9.8 mil cap hit. Montez Sweat may be there but I'll bet his stock rises after the Sr. bowl.

While the draft is something to be excited about in light of this year, it's too early to make informed decisions about the direction to go, but with some shrewd moves the pieces are in place to come away stronger. Pick 20 could allow to go after position of need as opposed to our usual BPA strategy in back of round 1.

Murphy would he a solid first round pick. The ball skills and production are there.

I think Samuel goes sooner than Walter Football lists him. Could be a mid to late first round pick if he runs well at the combine, and judging on how he abused DB's at the senior bowl, he will test well.

Bush in round three would be great value.

Well done.

Bush goes at 26 to the colts.

It could be a lot worse Steeler fans. You could be Packer fans right now.

On the contrary, Green Bay hit the re-set button. Green Bay has an easier schedule, a better draft position, and oh about $40,522,731 in cap space. The Steelers problems remain

If I were Green Bay's GM, I'd trade for Brown offering their #1 pick and use the rest of the cap space and draft to fix the Offensive line and defense.

2019 draft picks for Green Bay

  • Round 1: Green Bay, New Orleans
  • Round 2: Green Bay
  • Round 3: Green Bay
  • Round 4: Green Bay, Washington
  • Round 5: Green Bay
  • Round 6: Green Bay, Seattle
  • Round 7: Green Bay

Seems like he is a cancer in the locker room though.

I think he'd do well with Rogers, but I don't thing Hollywood Brown would like playing in small market Wisconsin.

I don't know. If Ben was pissed off because he was running the wrong routes in practice, I don't know that Rogers would be more forgiving.

I looked to see if they changed it. I could have sworn he was there. I will adjust it later....

When they didn't have us taking him, I wondered where he went, so I searched the page for "Bush" and got nothing for the three rounds. So, I searched the web to see if there was something that happened to cause him to plummet. Nothing.

Went back and checked each actual draft and there he was at 26. Even now, in IE, when I go to the page and click Ctrl+F to find in page for "bush", I get the reference to him being the previous choice and nothing else. Weird.
