Game Balls, Game Goats & FU's..........@ Jags.....

The coaching staff and specifically Tomlin had some great calls this game that I think some are overlooking.
-Accepting the holding penalty that would've resulted in 4th and short for the Jags and instead forced them to pass and ALMOST resulted in a huge turnover but still got a sack and changed field position. Ballsy call that most coaches wouldn't make.

-Not benching Ben like some arm chair coaches would've liked. The result speaks for itself. Ben is like a top 3 point shooter who misses 15 in a row but you still want him taking a 16th shot with the game on the line. If you haven't realized that by now, it's hopeless for you.

-Kicking deep with 2:30 left. Yes we had 3 timeouts but I've seen plenty of coaches onside kick there which would have given the O a much longer field to work with at the end.

-Seems like Butler made some adjustments to stop the run in the 2nd half. It's very refreshing to see some defensive adjustments the last few games and it was definitely a big reason the D was able to force 4 straight 3 and outs at the end.

-Time management is not always perfect but it nearly was today. The only blunder being the wasted timeout on the first drive and then calling a half assed QB sneak. But after that, the O had 2 extra possessions at the end of the first half and any time you score the winning points with less than 10 seconds left is a great thing. They seemed to handle the end of the game without panicking and calling a TO too quick which I've seen in the past. They still had another play from inside the 1 if Ben didn't get in on the last play due to having a TO in their pocket.

Tomlin claims there was no adjustments made on D.

Absolutely. With the way the defense was playing as well as Jacksonville's offense, it was the right call. I doubt they would have went for it, but Jacksonville could've been tempted to run up the gut on fourth down.

This had a zero percent chance of happening. Can't credit the coaches for doing something that wasn't even in consideration.

I think this one was common sense.

Run defense buckled down. It was very impressive.

The time management looks good when it works, but I think it could have been handled a little better at the end of the game. I think you save time and call the time out before the two-minute warning. They also spiked the ball near the goal line, wasting a play in a situation where they didn't need to rush with a time out in the back pocket. They caught a break with Jacksonville penalties to extend the drive.

I didnt like wasting a down on the last drive. They clocked the ball at the 3 when they could have easily ran a play. Luckily the Jags gave us some first downs.

I don't know if I could say game goat to Dupree. They threw 18 times. A third of those no one can get pressure. And then on the remaining 12 they gave help from the back on several. That left TJ and AlouAlou singled. They both got home. Ben has to take what is given. Against a team like this, checkdowns and crossers.

Dupree was held so much I’m surprised he came away with his wallet.

This game almost gave me a FRIGGIN HEART ATTACK! I don't think I've ever been more discouraged by a Steeler team performance through almost 3 quarters of play in a long time. I expected the Steelers would come out and play motivated football in all three facets of the game as this was a REVENGE matchup vs the Jags after two losses at home last season. Jacksonville playing with a complete patchwork O-line with 4 backup linemen including their 4th starting Left Tackle Giants FIRST ROUND BUST Ereck Flowers. I figured we'd be able to pretty much shut them down on offense of at least keep their scoring to a minimum and last season the Steelers did put up some points on the Jags Defense....so I felt they had every reason to come home with a win here. For three quarters Ben and the offense looked like total dogshit....85 total yards through almost 3 Quarters of play. Seeing our Defensive Front 7 get absolutely blown off the line of scrimmage through 3 Quarters was absolutely disgraceful. Top it off with what was one of Ben's worst performances as a NFL pro through almost 3 Quarters. A complete **** game......UNTIL they were able to fight back from 16-0 and turn what looked like a sure fire loss into a WIN on the road vs a tough Jaguars team! What a resilient team effort by everyone in the 4th QTR to pull that one out of the *******! With the difficult schedule down the stretch this season a win like this could be a game changer for the rest of the regular season.....Onward & Upward STEELERS!!!

This game reminded me of one thing......"Steeler football is 60 minutes. It ain't gonna be pretty, throw style points out the window, but these guys will fight to the end and I tip my hat to each and every one of them!" (Mike Tomlin)

Game Balls:
JuJu Smith Schuster - 8 rec 104 yds including some clutch catches in the 4th QTR.
Javon Hargrave - 2 sacks today...played very well in limited play time.
Jordan Berry - 6 punts 51 yd avg and a long of 63.
Vance McDonald - Great TD catch in the 4th QTR

Game Goats:
Ben Roethlisberger - 3 INT's and without question one of the worst performances of his career. Road Ben was ugly today but I'll take the win!
Bud Dupree - You made Ereck Flowers look like a Future Hall of Famer today. If his performance today doesn't validate how pathetic Bud Dupree is as a LB'er in the NFL you must be blind or watching another game!
Tyson Alualu - Was constantly being blown off the line of scrimmage today....half his tackles were RB's tripping over his body as he got steamrolled all day
Jon Bostic, LJ Fort & Vince Williams - Gotta be better in run support....Jags RB's ran right through your feeble attempts to tackle them

FU's:
FU to Jalen Ramsey - He'd look good in Black n Gold but until he wears those colors I'll HATE HIM!

Chico, I like your stuff usually.

Conner was a goat. It was his worst game and he dropped a conversation on one play and a sure touchdown on the other. Davis dropped an easy interception and missed some tackles. Semi goat.

Ben saved the day. Ramsey made two incredible plays. 300+ yards and 3 TD's vs one of the top defenses on the road and yet another 4th quarter comeback. Come one, that's a game ball. How you finish matters.

Watt should get a game ball. Two sacks and forced fumbles

Bench Ben? Are you kidding me? I don't think ANY NFL coach does that.

Yes the clock management was bad. A Tomlin hallmark.

The coaches should have adjusted MUCH sooner to stop the run. No Monday morning QB stuff here, check the game day thread.

Going for it on 4th down on our side of the field was a bad move by Tomlin. Ben bailed him out late...

When you turn it over a few times and win on the road, you have a good enough team to over come mistakes.

More and more laughable.

-.

That was reckless, IMO.

I understand what Tomlin was trying to do in forcing a turnover, and it nearly worked, but giving them another shot at converting a 3rd down was an unnecessary risk.

There was zero chance of the Jaguars trying to convert 4th and 1 from that part of the field.

You wanted to bench Ben? Yes or no? The rest of what I say stands. Homers and Ben haters to prop up Tomlin, be gone!

Against any other team I agree with you but considering the Jags Oline was down to backups, it was worth the gamble because the likelihood of them picking up 3rd and long was very small and as we saw, there was a very good chance the D could create a splash play.

Nothing wrong with the 4th down call. So you would want your boy Berry to punt the ball and net them like 20 yards? Big difference there.

Defense vs the RUN and Time of possession.

I think the Jaguars exposed a weakness. They ran for 179 yards, and controlled the clock to the tune of 37.40 ( Them ) vs 22.20 ( Us )

Lucky for us they have a bad passing QB and few receiving weapons around him.

My question, is can the run defense be fixed? It has been masked in many games, thanks to the offensive being very explosive.

If that's the case then the props should go to the players for making their own adjustments. Maybe they were able to diagnose the run plays better after seeing them in the first half which is certainly possible.

Big props to the jagoff defense for **** talking Ben all game. Think you snapped him out of the fog and pissed him off.

It was too early to go for it. Berry nets about 38 yards a punt, and I'd take the field position and get the ball back. Why give them the ball on our side of the field, with what over 5 minutes left? One mistake by the defense, and it would have been over.

Call this game for what it is. We came back to beat a team that lost four in a row thanks to Ben coming alive late.

Every team doesn't have their line or RB's though. Tuitt wasn't in there either. They gave up a ton of yards on the ground predominantly between the twenties. When they had to tighten up they did almost every time. I'm not really worried about the run defense at this point. One game can be just that, one game.

I'm giving a game ball to Watt. 2 Sacks, 2 FFs, 1 TFLs. He's a freakin monster!

Exactly, he's got to be on the list. I put Ben in Quarters 1-3 on the Goats list, Ben in Quarter 4 on the Legends list LOL

Coaching was good and bad. I HATED the passing at the end, but thank God it worked. But I have to be fair, there were some obvious adjustments defensively for the second half that paid off. Well done.
