A Football Life- Bill Cowher

Those Kordell years after that AFCCG complete meltdown vs Denver I had zero hope of winning a superbowl. That was reality. Sucked.

Yes it did. Something else Cowher had to deal with was his owner saying the Heinz field would be known as the house that Kordell built. Not saying Rooney interfered with Cowher's ability to pick his own players but it had to put some pressure on him to play Kordell and stick with him longer than he should have.

Wow...at last I find someone on this site older than me.

The coach of my youth loved it. Teary eyed the whole way through. "You win some you lose some" and "We're world champions dad" gets me everytime.. glad to see he was able to find happiness after his wife passed and his girls were able to accept her...

I just saw it. Excellent. I was unaware how he sharpened his coaching game with Bill Belichick.

Cowher's relationship with key players, and his sideline coaching stand out. Bill's one heck of a guy. I wish he'd comeback to coaching, but I doubt he will.

NFL films always does a great job with its documentaries, and this was no exception.

The montage of those 1990s blitzburg teams with the Cowher sound bites was epic.

Damnit, I forgot about this. When is this going to be re-aired? Or, where can I find it to watch?

It will definitely be re-aired, they always are. I have my DVR to series record ALL "A Football Lifes" as I enjoy most of them.

There is an article where he talks about how free he feels living in NY, as a non-head coach and how being in Pgh as head coach was like living in a fishbowl. Now
that he's out from that life he in no way sounds like he would go back to it. In NY, he's just another guy, no one bothers him and he likes it. He said living in Pgh
as head coach was just too confining; he couldn't even go to the grocery store or out to dinner without being bothered.

Still, if I'm Cleveland, I offer him a 5-year deal at $11 mill per year (I don't think he wants a contract longer than that.)

IMHO Cowher isn't going back into coaching. He has plenty of money, easy job, a SB ring and can do whatever he wants. He isn't going anywhere.

He sure as hell isn't going to brownhole land for any amount of money.

That was a great episode! I was fortunate enough to have a little time with the Cowher's, I inspected their house when they moved to Raleigh both when it was built and a year later. Coach talked to us like we were old friends, and even played some piano. He and his wife were so down to earth. I don't get many opportunities to meet Steelers here in NC, so that was quite awesome.

I got to see it last night...great show, very touching and it brought back some really good memories.

Yeah...I got a little lump in my throat too.....Thanks for the memories 'Chin'

Cowher Power. If you didn't tear up watching this there's something wrong with you. They should have had the Peezy sound bite "They shot me in Denver" when they showed us beating the Broncos in Denver. They also should have had Cowher saying Who Dey, We Dey after beating the Bungles.

I thought the show was great, and you certainly get the sense that he’s found true happiness after the passing of his first wife.

Yeah, not a chance he returns to coach. I don’t think you can discount quality of life in any decision he would make.

He also said why shut a door unless you have to and you never know when you are going to get that itch. If Bill wanted it, he could command John Gruen type of money over 4-5 years.

He looks very recognizable to me to ANY NFL fan. Cowher has that prominent chin, and New York has tons of Steelers fans that would recognize him in a New Youk minute.

If you want to get away from it all, New York City is one of the last places to be.

Cowher to Cleveland? I don't think they are close enough. Only a team close to the playoffs or in it has a chance to lure Cowher.

True... but he sure did look like he’s quite happy living a life of relative anonymity in NYC.

Curious what team could actually be an attractive temptation for him.

He's never coming back. He moved on with his life's work...

I think he/they meant more in a sense that they don't care it's him and they're not riding on him for anything, so he doesn't feel any pressure there. I'm sure in Pittsburgh it was much different and I think that's all they were alluding to. I did see where that one New Yorker said "Coach, come on and coach the Jets, we need you" but I'm sure it's nothing like Pittsburgh.

And great episode. I knew his family were very important to him and they were all pretty heavily involved in sports, but it was cool to see to what extent and then some of the snippets (like Cowher telling Rooney that Megan was the best coach in the building) etc. Cowher is a class act and it's hard not to root for the guy regarding anything.

Cowher hates the amount of time coaching requires. He has grown children and now has grand children. There isn't a coaching job on the planet he would take IMHO. It isn't a money thing and it isn't really a location thing either. It's a life style thing.
