In penalties and penalty yardage.

A whopping 42 accepted penalties leads the NFL and is 7 more than the 2nd most penalized team (Philly). This is 5 more than they had last season thru week 4 (they were still #2). On the flip side, the Steelers also have the most penalties called against their opponent at 39 so it seems this could partly be a result of having flag happy refs the first 4 weeks.

Not only do the Steelers lead the NFL with 42 accepted penalties, but also with 8 declined penalties for a total of 50 flags thrown...8 more than #2 (Falcons). 50 total flags is 10 more than they had last season thru week 4.

Steelers also lead in penalty yardage at 401 which is 47 more yards than #2 (Jags).

Around the league...

There have been 30 less accepted penalties thru the first 4 weeks than last season...seems like more to us because the Steelers games have been the most flag happy games so far. Steelers games have 81 total accepted penalties thru 4 weeks which is 11 more than #2 (KC)...almost 3 more per game than the rest of the league.

Roughing the passer calls are up 80% from last season...21 thru 4 weeks in 2017 vs 38 in 2018.

Defensive Pass Interference calls are actually down significantly. 77 called for 1307 yards thru 4 weeks in 2017 vs 63 for 1073 yards in 2018. The Steelers only account for 1 of those (probably because no DB can get near a WR). Also the total number of DPI flags thrown (including declined) dropped from 90 to 66 which is a 25% reduction.

It should also be pointed out that NE has 19 accepted penalties thru 4 weeks which is the same as Carolina and 3 less than Washington who have both had a bye week. Only the Giants have less accepted penalties at 18. NE also has benefits from 29 accepted penalties against their opponents.

So the Steelers and Falcons are #1 & #2? This should be a fun game to watch.:frusty:

The NFL is awful to watch. Just hot garbage. The flags are ridiculous and I am so happy I canceled the nfl ticket.

Discipline or a huge lack of it Coach Cool Shades.

This game may last 4 hours. Penalties, scores and T.V. timeouts may push this game very late.

Have to agree. I find myself not feeling like I missed anything if I'm busy doing something else on a Sunday. And I couldn't tell you the last time I turned on a TNF or MNF game that didn't involve the Steelers.

We give up over 500 yards a game with this defense and the penalties on average.

Pouty lips has taken the mystic of what was once playing the Steelers to an all time low. No discipline.

There doesn't seem to be any accountability on this team. If "hey Joey" can get his buddy head coach to over-ride the DC on a decision then there is absolutely no accountability as Tomlin doesn't even hold himself accountable. Chain of power command it a must in team sports and if the head coach doesn't even back that then you know what you get and that is currently what the STEELERS are.

Salute the nation
