Steelers release Landry Jones; Trim to 53

Well Jones doesn't have a job yet, and Denver just dumped Lynch. Going to be tough to convince a team you're better than their backups, especially if the other team developed their talent.

I will say, I think Dobbs is the #2. For the simple reason that he is more diverse in his skillset, and can be brought on the field in 2 QB sets with Ben. Or swapped in and out if need be. I think Fichner is really going to shake up this offense. It will be anything but boring this season. More up tempo, better personnel groupings, and putting the right players on the field to play to the defense's weeknesses. I'm looking forward to it!

THESE are exciting times and I'm glad for Jone's to be gone and our backups showing signs of improvement. Landry was just stuck / frozen in time. Fitchner should be able to use the weapons MUCH better than the bubble screen surfer bar fighting dude.

Can't stand him. Feels the Steelers front office is forever being dumb.

I think when Madden was a kid he tried out for a pop-Warner football team who happened to be named the steelers and was CUT.

I can understand you you feel. I think if I still lived in Pittsburgh I'd feel the same.

But sometimes he's pretty funny -- and it's all a schtick anyway.

His comment that if the Pitt-Penn State were played on his patio he'd "pull down the (window) shade" was pretty good.

Earlier on as a fan I didn't like him. When I moved to the Burgh before I came home to work I used to listen to him on the drive home and he grew on me. He was still a tool, but had some funny moments mixed in.

He just goes against the popular grain to gather attention. He will always be a mixed bag. But sometimes a good listen.

The days he isn't it isn't hard to turn off the channel.

Nothing against Landry Jones, but I don't think he ever deserved to be on the roster. I think Mason Rudolph will take over when Ben retires, and it was nice to see Dobbs play well.

I'll give props to Jones... he called Dobbs and congratulated him and told him to call if he needed anything. May not have been the best QB but seems like a good guy - wish him well...

Yep a real stand up thing to do. I still think Jones will latch on somewhere.

From what I’ve heard personally, the Pittsburgh sports media are beside themselves over Jones release. You’d think he was Nick Foles and this was Philadelphia.
