Everyone knows the team needed DEFENSE, yet 3 of our first 4 picks went to the offens

One tackle left one tackle drafted. He has a spot waiting there for him so I would say a damn good chance to make the team.

I would damn sure hope he makes the team being a 3rd round pick. Usually you’d want the guy to get a helmet eventually during his rookie year. I can guarantee you, this guy won’t and has a high potential of never panning out.

Then they must have lost faith in hawkins

Hawkings wasn't the swing tackle last year. Even if he earns that, you have some competition.

Competition sharpens the sword don't undervalue it.

Every draft pick has to earn playing time. Or for that matter a roster spot. Not uncommon for first rounders to wait for playing time, any thing lower gets the same nod.

This guy has enough mobility to earn something in his first year. We'll see.

Terrell Edmunds is going to play in all the sub packages that Shazier could and Bostic can’t. Need.

James Washington takes over for Martavis Bryant. Need.

Mason Rudolph could be the heir apparent to our aging QB. Need.

Okorafor could take over as swing tackle for Hubbard. Need.

Hawkins can’t be the swing tackle? He played one season and looked decent enough to develop into that this season. I just don’t see a need for a tackle that early, find your developments guy in the 5th if that’s the route you want to go.

So Rudolph is going to be sitting 3 seasons til he gets a shot to start, I wonder if he’s going to be alright with this once he sees all the other QBs from this class getting their chance immediately or after a season. Sure, it’s easy for him to say now but won’t be easy in year 2 of sitting. I look for Ben to be pushed out after a year or two even if he wants to play still.

I’m fine with the Washington pick, he’s solid and fills a need.

I think Matt Feiler is going to be very good competition this training camp, I think he could end up being the guy with all the versatility now. I just don’t see a need for 3 guys to battle for a backup role.

This guy was slated for the second by some. He has potential. I would think he was their BPA at the time.

always

always a need for BPA

Perhaps they didn't put a lot of stock in Feiler.

There are many here that are way more knowledgeable than me about the game, and some like Ford have done a lot of research for the draft. Guess it's only human nature, but there are also quite a few arm chair whiners here as well.

FWIW, I think the tackle may be this years long snapper pick, but who knows the draft is always a roll of the dice.

There's still today, and UDFA's, so the world isn't coming to an end.

Here's my point on the Rudolph pickup. I like what teams like Philly and NE do. You pick up a QB, develop him, then bank him for a higher draft pick than what you got him for in the future. I think this is a good draft strategy that leads to multiple picks.

Today, if we can get a 4th rounder for Landry, I take it. Even slotting, and we might get Griffith. Develop Dobbs and Rudolph. If Ben gets a career ending injury, we're set. If not and he's healthy in 2 years and still wants to play, we can bank backups for draft picks. It's time to start turning the backup QB position into a commodity.

You have two new S's a new WR, a better backup to Big Ben, a T with potential to be solid.A new ILber. (free agency included.)

And still have two 5th rounders coming.

Better communicators better tacklers, better depth.

That swing T that left was solid. You don't want to put all your eggs in one basket a T was needed.

They are solidifying the roster despite what the chicken little's think.

slash,.....Speaketh the TRUTH here !!!!!!! For you naysayers,.... There are a lot of other teams to root for if this one is to "STUPID" for yaz. I think this is a solid draft to this point. Remeber that most here are in win RIGHT NOW mode and are willing to sacrifice future for the NOW movement. Well guess what,.............. The Rooney's who happen to own the team, have a tendacy to look future and keep COMPETATIVE continuously. I'm good with that as you will see a MUCH better "D" on the field this year and we will go deeper into the SB than last year.

PS............You have to continuously upgrade both sides of the ball and to this point the STEELERS have done that.

Eh, my initial reaction was to hate the Washington pick. A few hours later and I can see why they took him.
Everybody "knew" Rudolph was in play at 1:28. So, we get him in the third ... Great value
The tackle was a head scratcher to me. There were higher rated (by media) tackles on the board. But, you have to believe that Munch saw something and told them that out of what was left, this was the guy he wanted to work with. I'll trust Munch's ability to get the most out of the guy.
They have two fifth rounders left. It's possible to move back into the 4th for Griffen or somebody else. Hopefully not Jewell. We already have a fast to diagnose, slower than average back up ILB.

The steelers have placed alot of empahsis on guys who can communicate on defense. Tells me that was a major issue on the field last year.. once on the field coaches cant communicate but so much.. you have to have guys who can get people properly lined up to combat what new stuff they are seeing on the field that they didnt see on film

Every year people say pick BPA and every year people whine and complain we didn’t draft people based on needs. But looking at our draft so far we are right on point with both. We needed secondary help and got Edmunds. We needed a receiver and got one of the top receivers in the draft. Getting Rudolph in the 3rd knowing Ben is coming to an end filled a pretty big need. We needed depth along the line especially losing Hubbard. Tackle position is pretty light. Do we need ILB? Yes! But nobody at any of those points did they feel like was worth the pick. Sorry but I’m more inclined to go with Colbert then somebody who sits on there couch and knows nothing about football or the draft process. I wouldn’t dare criticize a pilot on how to fly a plane if I have never flown a plane.

**** some of you are dumb. Try looking at the totality of the off season. The three biggest moves were all defense. Starter at Safety. Check. Starter at ILB check. Third down rover for Dime. Check. They traded a receiver. They needed one. Got one. And parlayed a ****** character guy who was gone after this season to a qb they had a first round grade on. What the **** do you want?

Maybe the **** load of problems we had on defense were mental. Just guys making the same stupid mistakes. Maybe the coaches know this and that is why Burnett and Bostic entered the building.

The defense was good enough until Shazier got hurt. Im pretty sure that if they could have gotten a player like that they would have taken him. The two guys that they were interested in were gone. Both of them had issues by the way. So now they will split the void of Shazier between two. Bostic will play the run/pass downs. Edmunds will play the pass downs. Id like to see someone else's better plan. I really would.

If they were even interested in Van. There was ONLY a report they wanted to move up for Evans. Far as we know they didn't see Van as a 1st rounder.

Unknown what their board looks like..................

Colbert tried to trade up for Evans in R1 and the Rats blocked it by trading picks with Tennessee. When that happened they decided not to reach at ILB. Each pick has a purpose and replaces a departing player.

Edmunds, Mitchell
Washington, Bryant
Rudolph, Big Ben down the road
Chuk, Hubbard
