If Evans and Vander Esch are off the board, who do we take in round one?

With Burnett signed, I doubt the Steelers pick a safety in round 1.

Do the Steelers go with the highest rated player regardless of position, or do they try to match the value in the round with a secondary need, such as a DT/NT, or TE?
 
Tomlins will reach for a player.

I hope he's on the board, and we can trade down because of it. Jackson who I have seen play quite a few times is not accurate or consistent enough as a passer. I also think with his playing style; and build he will get hurt in the NFL.

Ben is signed for two more years, and with him playing, any QB picked will be riding the bench. The time to choose Ben's successor should be 2020, or 2019, NOT 2018.

As I said before, if we get a QB, what QB gets cut? I doubt that they dump Landry. That leaves Dobbs as a wasted pick.

I want Vander Esch, then Evans. If both are gone, I go best safety or best OLB.
 
I think Jackson may go to the Ravens
 
A safety in the first round is still very possible. They just ate dinner with the one kid the other night. I think his name is Jessie Bateman or something? Escapes me at the moment. But everyone, Tomlin, Colbert, Butler, and Bradley we're at his pro day

Jessie Bates. A good prospect. More of a round 2 type of talent. If the Steelers pick him in round 1 or 2, you have to wonder who will be starting. They did not pay Burnett to be a back up.

A safety doesnt have to start he can play on obvious passing downs. Burnett can move to LB in Shazier's old spot
 
They could go Guice and have the replacement for Bell in 2019 out of the way. It would get Bell's yards per carry up, because you wouldn't have to overwork him.
Wouldn't surprise me that if James Washington is still around by their #2 that they take him. Would be quite a surprise to go offense #1 & #2 when everyone expects
defense.

Your first round pick should start by year two at DB.
 
Is that a rule or something?? As much passing in todays game he would still play a ton.
 
With Burnett signed, it doesn't force them to reach for a S in round 1, unless they have given up on Davis, which I doubt they have. I think we are, now, in a position that we don't have to reach for ILB either, which is good.

If Jackson is there, I hope we trade back.
 
Why did Roquan Smith only run the 40?
 
Only read and watched Evans a couple times. But from my understanding is that Evans would be the safer pick. Vander Esche might have the higher ceiling. I like higher ceiling.

His Workout numbers and production are not risks.

The Steelers have taken what were essentially one year wonders before in round one.

C won't be BPA top one was hurt , but other than that yes.

Remember if things are created equal you go to need. But a clear BPA yes..

Foster is on his last year I believe and the rest is questionable depth..
