NCAA already has the rule bringing the touchback to the 25. Much like the NFL, teams started kicking high and short of the endzone because they could usually make the tackle short of the 25.

Now the NCAA is voting on a rule that would allow the return team to call for a fair catch and it would still be brought to the 25 as if it was a touchback.

if this passes, you can pretty much say goodbye to kick returns in college football.

WTF? How is that even football? ****** rule if they pass it.

LOL...what do they say...it's all about control ?

One has to Remeber the components of a true football game,
1.) offense
2.) defense
3.) special teams
All three neede an equal part of importance to truely have. A great football game potential, as it was meant to be played.
As been happening the "D" has been handcuffed greatly and this is the proverbial "STRAW" to the special teams. NOW all you have legitamite ly is just the offense. How fuckede up is this game becoming??????

How is a non starter supposed to make his mark. Exciting play, plenty of willing contributors.

I've watched football all my life and I don't remember all these injuries that supposedly happen on kickoffs so often that it warrants nearly eliminating them from the game.

Sure, there were always some but a lot of that was with the wedge vs the wedge busters. Since they eliminated the wedge formations, i just don't recall all these injuries, or at least concussions. That's what we're really talking about right?

Tin Foil hat time - I think there could be more at play here than injuries because i just don't believe kick returns cause injuries at a higher rate than any other play. If that's not the reason, then why?

I bet coaches hate kickoffs. Think about it. It is such an unknown factor. How many times have underdogs won games on a big return? I bet most coaches would rather every drive just start at the 25.

Just think about how many specialists are required just for kickoffs. It starts with the Kicker. Many teams keep a kicker with a stronger leg than one that may be more accurate but can't boom that kickoff. Then you have the bottom of the roster guys.

Every single year on the final roster cuts, every NFL team ends up keeping a couple of guys who are good at covering kicks ahead of a player with more upside. Teams end up cutting a promising young guy or sometimes a quality vet just to keep a special teamer.

Just think of how different the last 5 or 6 guys would look on rosters if there were no more kickoffs. Now instead of the mediocre LB who is only good at covering kicks, you can keep that project LT instead of the less talented guys who can play T or G but neither very well. You can easier keep that 3rd QB. You can keep that veteran RB or WR instead of the young guy who covers kicks.

EXPAND the roster instead of taking away a part of the game. That said it's cheaper to eliminate a part of the game and also expands the Fantasy Football stats by doing so. More offensive snaps for star players as you can now carry the extra5-6 players instead of the ST guys.

I love kickoffs. It's an exciting play when they actually allow it to happen. In exhibition games like the Pro Bowl where they've eliminated it, it felt a little bit like a different game. Just starting with the offense and defense on the field eliminates a key part of the game. Special teams is important and something that I don't want left out. What's next, getting rid of punts and just giving the opponent the ball 40 yards from the line of scrimmage?

High speed collisions. Probably the concussions to special teamers that you don't hear so much about.

If that was the case then wouldn't the steelers be constantly picking up new guys each week to cover kicks? I don't recall all these stoppages to work on injured players after each kick

The watering down of the product even more. Can we move on to flags and count four Mississippi before they rush the qb as well.
