ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Marvin Lewis is planning to leave the Bengals after this season to pursue other opportunities.

After 15 seasons in Cincinnati that have made him the longest-tenured head coach in franchise history, Marvin Lewis is planning to leave the Bengals after this season to pursue opportunities elsewhere, league sources told ESPN.

Do the other opportunities include winning? That is really too bad. Hopefully he gets to choose his successor. I realize you dont want to be the Browns flipping your coaching staff every two years. However Lewis is the other end of the spectrum where you would have to be blind to not recognize that he could not turn that franchise around.

Good guy,but his teams played pretty dirty the last few years or so. I lost a little respect for him. I'd leave that hell hole too. He's certainly made enough money. I'd try to be part of a championship team or just play golf and chill.

****, will they get rid of the almost useful ginger QB now too?
Bad news

I can see him working one of the pre game desks. Cowher's probably told him its a much sweeter gig.

Better question is what person takes his place? Cant be someone in house. There hasn't been enough success to warrant that. Has to be a house cleaning. Though that ownersship/management has been inept for a long time, you cant say they didnt give Marv a chance, so a rookie head coach may like the job thinking he doesnt have to win quick.

Let's the crazy Urban Meyer/ John Gruden rumors begin

Lewis either never had control of his team or set the tone for letting his team be run by the clowns on it. From a competitive standpoint, it's disappointing he's leaving because you knew Cincinnati would not be serious contenders. Looking at it just in terms of the game, I'm glad he's gone so they clean that team up and gain some control of it.

Rumor has it he would like to pursue new opportunities with reigning 5X champion Patriots.

Well, people can laugh an make fun of the Bengals and there ownership. but the roster on that team is loaded. with the right coach, they could be real contenders.

Im sorry I dont see loaded. Marvin Lewis is a competant coach. He cannot get over the hump. For sure. But he is competent. If they were Loaded they wouldnt have the record they have over the last two years.

Which quarterback are they drafting to replace Andy Dalton?

Marvin's legacy is intact - 0-7 in the playoffs

There front 7 on defense is as good as any team in the NFL. there back end is about middle of the pack. there WR'S and TE (when healthy) can be very good. there Offense line need a little tweaking. there Rb's are very good.
The QB isn't very good, needs upgraded to get over the hump. but coaching is huge, since Zimmerman left. the Defense has never been the same. hell, since Hue Jackson left the offense hasn't been the same. just look at the the Rams and what good coaching can do for a team and QB.

Great DC... was neutered by Mike Brown during the locker room brawl between Ochostinko and himself when the idiot owner/ gm wouldn't let him cut or even suspend him fir throwing a punch at his own Head coach......

Tightwad franchise that has less of a chance of really winning than the Browns do... at least they try to get better... they are just bad at it... cinci wants a cheap organization and drafts flawed discount guys to make up for their lack of scouting and development...

Marvin Lewis came along when the franchise was struggling. Not sure but I think he has been there 15 years and other than post season shortcomings, a winning record?
He's leaving on his own terms and deserves to be treated well despite his future endeavors.
Good luck Coach.
