Bryant recently requested a trade

Ben has been focused on AB. I've brought this up before. Either he is purposely looking to AB; the other receivers aren't getting open consistently; or Ben has totally forgotten to go through his progressions. AB had 19 targets against the Jags and his lowest targets on the year is 9. All of that with double and still some triple coverage. The 19 is a lot but 9 to 11 targets he gets in most games seems about right for the best WR in the game. If Ben is throwing 25 to 30 times per game, as I think he should for us to light teams up, everyone else should still get 4 to 6 targets per game. Get open and catch the ball like JuJu has been doing and your targets will go up.

This whole issue is best left for next off season. He's on the team and the focus is now on the 2017 season. Targets don't matter, only winning matters and we'll sort out your issues before March 1st. If he wants to be traded, you talk to the front office AFTER THE SEASON. For now, shut up and play hard and earn your keep.

I'm sure this was all done diplomatically. Not sure how it leaked to the press 2-3 weeks after the fact.

Again, if Roethlisberger retires we have a LOT of things to sort out during that off season. Trading or keeping Bryant will be small potatoes in the scheme of things.

I'm not trading Bryant mid-season. He will get his opportunities and put up some numbers along the way. After the season, this stuff is easier to handle as we can draft or sign a replacement and not have to worry about a mid-season roster adjustment.

He's a walk free agent after 2018 anyways and no way we're handing this guy a long term contract.

It's been confirmed by multiple sources that he actually did ask for a trade a few weeks ago. No matter what he posts on Twitter, what else was he gonna say?

It's only week 6. So he gave the team just a couple of weeks to get him fully integrated in the offense after being out a year??? Sounds fishy.

They won't trade him unless they get a 2nd or better...which won't happen.
What has he done?

If the rumor is true (which it sounds like it is), MB is being awful selfish. For all that crap that HE caused, to come back and expect
to be a focal point of the offense, is absurd. Martavis, don't you think they would make you the MAN if you were THE MAN?
Seriously, if this is true, MB needs to get gone in the offseason.

His woman is the problem. She's in his ear. She wants him to make the big money, so she can help him spend it.

Alright. I love Roethlisberger and unlike Antdrew I'm not going to throw him under the bus for everything that's wrong in Steeler-town. Haley drives me crazy but I won't blame him entirely either. I think they both have some issues to sort out individually and together.

1) Although it pains me to say it. Ben does seem (to my novice eyes) to often have a pre-determined idea of who he's going to. It's not that he doesn't look guys off etc. It's just that he quite often doesn't take what's open or seem to look through all the progressions to see a guy wide open. Now true - as I mentioned in another thread, I think he's way less mobile and for the first time ever he has a clock ticking in his head when the ball gets into his hands. Maybe that has something to do with it, but right now I don't think he has much faith in too many of the receivers other than Brown and that's gotta change. He's GOT to trust the other guys and let them do their jobs. This offense CANNOT be explosive if it relies solely on Bell running 35 times a game and Ben forcing the ball to Brown 15 to 20 times a game. The Steelers HAVE to get back to that 6 different receivers thing. That will force defenses to play honest.

2) For the love of all that is holy coach Haley, program in some ******* relief routes. And Ben, ******* take them. The defenses won't know what to to with Roethlisberger throwing a dump off for 5 yards to a leaking RB. That'll freak them right out. I can see the linebackers now. "WTF man? Did he just dump off a pass?" "**** man, can he DO THAT?"

Bryant needs 1 big game to get himself right and happy with the world. And it will help remind the rest of the league what the Steelers have under the hood. Haley et. al. should be making up a game plan to figure out how to feature Bryant sooner than later in order to send a wake-up message to the league that they need to cover ALL the receivers as well as the run. The Steelers don't HAVE to score 30 points a game, they need to make the defenses believe absolutely in their heart that they could whenever they wanted to.

AB has 48 catches, TEs combined 19, Bryant 17, no one is getting open. The underneath to Bell is rarely open, it looks like it on TV, but there's almost always a defender just off screen. No one is a consistent option besides AB. That's the issue, we need to go to Short to medium routes like the quick slant to Bryant, he'll have to deal with 8-10 yard catches. Stop with the damn empty sets, and use some play fakes with crossing routes, you want the LBs to bite to open the underneath stuff up too, not just play fake on deep balls

In the offense that we play. In the offense the QB lobbied for he gets the brunt of my blame. Sorry. Its a passing offense because of him. So if teams are stacking the box i expect him and the Receivers to make plays. Because they have the talent to do so.

Everyone seems to forget Hubbard is still getting abused at RT. With Ben being less mobile, looking at other options isn't always going to work.

This is the offense the QB lobbied for? Where? When?
We come out on 3rd and 2 in the empty set all the damn time, then run vertical routes, that's the play calling, you want execution, how about the coaches call something that doesn't have a low % of being successful.

Bryant needs to focus on catching the ball when it hits his hands. Earn Bens trust and the ball will
Magically show up in your direction more often.

It's a non issue to me. He wants to be on the field more and he was frustrated, He's publicly stated he's happy being a Steeler. Time to focus on the Bengals.

There was not all vertical routes on the TD to Brown thats wrong.

What is Steelers football to you?
To me, it always started with being physical to the opponent, to break the will of the opponent. Nothing exemplified that style of play more than the old I-formation. Send a stout back with a full head of steam to beat on you over and over again. And from that one play, create confusion or hesitancy with play-action, play-action rollouts, counters, traps, jet sweeps, reverses, etc. Design plays off of plays so that the defense has to be honor multiple possibilities.
In other words, I’m going to make you hesitate while I punch you in the mouth. I’m going to confuse you and at the same time try to break your will. It was so successful for so many seasons for the Steelers. We of course haven’t seen it since Ken Whisenhunt was basically forced out by Ben Roethlisberger.
I still believe Mike Tomlin was and is the right man for the job. I didn’t think of Whisenhunt as a leader of men in quite the same way as Tomlin, and I don’t think the franchise quarterback would have approved of the hire of Whisenhunt. Roethlisberger's been trying to dismantle that offense ever since Bruce Arians took over as the offensive coordinator once Tomlin was hired. First went the fullback, then the delayed screens to running backs, and over the last couple years the play-action pass. I wondered on Sunday how many plays remained from the old Whisenhunt offense. You know, the one that allowed Ben to start off his career with a 26-4 record and a lwoB repuS championship in his first two seasons in the league.
Ben hated that offense because he wanted more control. He associated that offense and the plays in it with the label of being a game manager. He wanted to be in the shotgun like high school and college and sling the ball around. He always wanted the control of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Except he never came to grips with the fact that the pro game is so much more different than college and high school. And he could never admit to himself that he couldn’t play the same type of game as Brady and Manning.

Rogers ran an Out TE ran an In and Bell ran a cross.. what were they supposed to run 3yd routes???

Not that it matters now but looks like Leveon would have been wide open for the 1st down.
