I disapprove of Ray Rice's actions. But in the law we have something called "mitigating circumstances". Being attacked first, in every single state in the union, is a legal mitigating circumstance. The DA in this case saw all the videos in full and chose not to formally charge Rice for good reason: the video shows her as the aggressor.

District Attorneys are, generally speaking, sociopaths. They care nothing of right and wrong or guilt. They care whether or not they can get a conviction or force a plea which will add to their stats and help their careers. They don't drop slam dunk domestic cases. Ever. So this video wass damning TO HER, not him.

You must take into account amount of potential damage when you're talking self defense. Self defense is the amount of force needed to preserve ones safety, and prevent injury. I don't want to get super legal and all, but it's a bit of overkill to answer a womans slap in the face with a left ******* hook. It's even more overkill if you're a professional football player, and she's, well, who she was.

It's like someone throwing a stone at another person, and you retaliating by dropping a boulder on their head, killing them, and saying "well, they were both just stones, duh". His risk was very minimal. What she did was wrong, and would have been considered simple assault. I was once in a relationship, we broke up, she was batshit crazy, and she weighed MORE than me when we finally broke up, (and I was 225lbs, so this was not a small lady). At any rate, I was attempting to leave her apartment after dropping some items off, she stood in front of the door, and double fist punched me in the chest as I approached to leave, saying I was staying. I told her to stop, and advanced again, she did it again, and I warned her if she did it again, I was going to move her from the door. I asked her to move again, she stood still, and when I advanced, she attempted another double fist punch, I caught her wrists, and turned sideways, her momentum carried her toward a couch, which she fell on, bounced, and hit the floor. I was walking out the door, and she said "I'm calling the police" I said "what for?" She said, "You just abused me". I closed the door and said, "Go ahead, but if you're reporting me for abuse, know that by the time they show up, I'm going to earn that ******* charge." She put the phone down, we parted ways, and I never went back.

There is no cure for crazy, you get the **** out. I wouldn't have followed though with the threat, but sometimes ya gotta match the appearance of crazy with crazy. Once I got out of there I vowed never to go back, and havent ever seen that nutjob since.

What I see is a woman walking onto an elevator, trying to push the buttons, and a man coming over to her and cornering her, verbally (and possibly physically, we can't tell since his back's to us) attacking her in a threatening manner. Then he hauls off and cold cocks her in the face without warning.
