sniff sniff Steelers rumored to sniffing around Rams CB Trumaine Johnson

Bell said he was holding out to get money for all of the other RB's out there since the RB market has gone way down. That absolutely is emotional and stupid at the same time. Worry about yourself and your own future.

That doesnt strike me as emotional or stupid at all. But perception is in the eye of the beholder

Teams are only allowed one franchise tag player, right? How could the Steelers have two?

They'd have to work out a trade and new contract before hand. Imagine if the Steelers took Johnson over mike Adams in 2012...

I would think that would be doable if the case.

why even bother wondering about him coming here and what it would take? the **** isn't happening, so stop kidding yourself

Steelers have done a decent amount of things I never thought would happen.

Teams can sometimes surprise you just when you think you have them figured out.

I keep an open mind, even in cases like this that seem highly unlikely.

i don't remember ever signing a true stud free aget/trading for one other than bettis (who was thought to be on his way down) and that was almost 25 years ago.
i would absolutely be THRILLED to see johnson end up here, but it will just break my heart when some team slides right in and scoops him up!
this is like the mike tomlin success idea. i'd rather be completely wrong about my thought that he is a chest bumping, two point conversion attempting idiot. than him continue to prove me wrong. hell with that, i would rather him bring the seventh title and i will HAPPILY eat my crow

I thought once you tag a player, you can't negotiate a contract until the next free agency period. (Signing Bell to a multi-year deal can't happen until next year).

Kevin Greene, James Farrior and Jeff Hartings were others.

i wouldn't have classified any of those players to what johnson is. certainly not saying that they were not absolutely great pros, just saying they were not top level sought after players is all

Kevin Greene is a HOfer. I would say that puts him a notch above what Johnson is.

Trumaine Johnson seems priced out of our range. How 'bout this guy? (if the Steelers are indeed sniffing around trying to add a corner)

Nick Underhill of The Advocate reports the Saints are shopping CB Delvin Breaux.

Breaux was good when on the field in 2015, but he was limited to just six games last year due to injury and has already missed two weeks during camp this year. Underhill reports the Saints are frustrated with the amount of time he has spent on the sidelines, and that is why they are looking to move him. A starting-caliber corner when healthy, teams should be interested in Breaux if the price is right.

I think what the Steelers want out of Bell is one injury and suspension free year and then they will pay him.

they already tried to pay him. he still wanted more. he'd still have been the highest paid RB in the league after Freeman was paid.
he wants to be paid like a RB and #2WR. which ain't happening.
I love Bell and think he's a perfect RB in our system. But, 5-6 years from now when his body has broken down and he's a shadow of his present self, a high dollar contract will handicap the team.

Steelers actually brought him in for a workout. He ended up signing with the Saints. Guy went to LSU.

IIRC they offered him $12m/year and we don't know the guaranteed money. If the guaranteed money was less than $27m, of course he wouldn't sign. I doubt the guaranteed money was that high, otherwise he would have signed. The Steelers, probably, didn't want to guarantee that much due to his suspension/missed games.

He is already due more than $12m/year for this season. if he makes it through health or unsuspended, he will get more than $12m next year. The suspension part is up to him and he is betting that he won't be suspended. Injury, not so much up to him, but if he makes it through the full season he will get paid by someone else, or we tag him again for $14m+.

My question is why would you pay 17 million but not pay Bell what he wanted..
Because Bell has only once played an entire season. Just once. And I'm not even sure about that. He may have been active at a playoff game that season. So by the math, a player NOT named Leveon Bell would earn $750,000 a game for a 16 game season. Well ****, that's chump change for a guy of HIS talent, you say.

But wait! Bell averages 73% active during games over his career. That means he's missed more than 1/4 of the possible games he could have played over a 4 year period. And he didn't miss them all in one season. That's a trend. He truly averages about 1/4 of the season off.

So, when you're offering Leveon 12 million for the year, you're REALLY offering him 12 million for 12 games. Well, that's a little better. That's a realistic value of 1 million per game he actually plays for you. That doesn't include his signing bonus, roster bonus or other perks. That's just his game day salary. So I'm struggling to see how he's getting his *** handed to him. I really am.

Now if he had helped win a Superbowl? If he'd been instrumental in an AFCC game? That'd be great. But he's never done that. When you need him most - he's either hurt or suspended. So I'd say 1 million per game is pretty ******' good.

Exactly it you arent going to offer it to bell why entertain it to Johnson?? Im not getting into with you on your disdain for injuries in the most violent sport..

Exactly Ark the Steelers didnt guarantee anything past the first year. So Bell turned it down. And bet on himself to have a great year and play 16 games and hopefully beyond. Whats wrong with that stance. The Steelers had every right to not guarantee anything past the first year and he has every right to bet himself in hopes of getting more guaranteed money.

One's man trash is another man's treasure. Maybe the kid just needs to mend up and can get back on the field and help a team....maybe us? Breaux was a hell of a corner when healthy, and still relatively young at 27.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports Saints CB Delvin Breaux underwent an X-ray on his left leg Monday.

Breaux has missed 9-of-15 training camp practices. He was originally believed to be dealing with a bruise, but the X-ray revealed a "more serious injury" that is nevertheless not considered a long-term issue. He's sporting a walking boot and crutches. Speaking Monday, coach Sean Payton couldn't hide his frustration with Breaux's lack of availability. It's beginning to look like Breaux is on his way out of New Orleans.

The obvious solution for Bell is that the Steelers sign him to a contract for league minimum each year. Then buy X number of copies of his rap album each season. Coincidentally, the number of albums bought would put him in the range of $14m in salary with only the league minimums for salary cap hits.

Works for the *'s and Brady's health company or whatever it is.

Here's a thought. Bell costs just about as much as this guy. Perhaps he and the RB for Bell?
