Don't think Ray Rice will be defended anymore...

coincidentally, 49ers release LaMichael James, per agent Jeff Sperbeck

I'm just happy the Ravens are in the midst of this turmoil during Steelers week. I think it helps our chances with them being in disarRAY. I hope the Steelers kick them while their down and take advantage of this.
I see what you did there...LOL

But McDonald still has a roster spot???

Wow, What a mammoth over-reaction to this situation. It doesn't take a genius to figure out if a woman walked calmly on to an elevator on floor 7 and was drug out limp and unconscious on floor 1, that something egregious happened on that ride. Viewing or not viewing that footage is not necessary to determine a terrible act occurred there. The problem now is how the NFL handled it, when they chose to knee-jerk suspend Ray Rice indefinitely. Here is the bed they made:

This incident occurred in a casino. There are cameras EVERYWHERE in a casino to be pulled and utilized at a moments notice for law enforcement.
Goodell chose to put himself in a position as the Judge, Jury, and Executioner for all player fine and suspension issues.
Goodell had the issue investigated and reviewed the facts, then chose to suspend Ray Rice for 2 games.

Here's where the rub comes. Either:
A) Goodell saw the elevator footage, and still decided to give him a 2 game suspension. If this is the case, and he saw the footage, he should be fired since he and he alone determined it was only a 2 game violation. Using the Rice family press conference and hoping the tape wouldn't come out to put this issue to bed, was irresponsible at best in this scenario.
B) Goodell did not see the footage, and decided to judge and punish a player without all of the facts. For someone with a law degree that practiced, he should have known to get all of the facts before rendering a verdict. If he failed to do so, he is incompetent, and should not be in a position of power in charge of NFL Policy.

If you're asking me, I find it very difficult to believe a multi-billion dollar league didn't see every angle of camera footage within 48hours of that incident. Tapes are copied, and very easy to disseminate.

Over reactions and bad decisions all around...

1.) Goodell see's tapes, tries to sweep under rug. Should have been a 6 game suspension but ends up 2 games.

2.) Egregious overreaction by NFL when they create the 'domestic violence' protocol 6 games-> indefinitely

3.) TMZ drops a bomb.

4.) RG, Instead of following his own protocol (see #2), panics and basically calls an audible.

Long story short- Punishment and sentencing should be decided by a PANEL! No reason that one man should by judge/jury/executioner.

Perhaps Rice's lawyer came up with some kind of legal maneuver to keep police and the casino from releasing this to the NFL and the Ravens. I doubt it, but it's possible. TMZ on the other hand is willing to pay people for leaking stuff like this.

It's hard to believe they haven't seen it, on the other if they did see it and still put her up there to "apologize for her role", that's even more despicable.

Sooo the NFL decides to suspend Ray Rice "indefinitely". They have just opened themselves up for a ****-storm.

You can't suspend Ray Rice indefinitely (once new footage came out), because you already ruled that it was worth 2 games (regardless of whether or not the elevator footage was viewed). The punishment was made. You can't say, wow, I guess I really didn't know how hard you hit your wife so she was unconscious for minutes. Because she was unconscious for minutes in the lobby footage. No Ray is being punished twice for the same crime. I know public opinion likes that this happened, but in a court of law, Ray Rice now has the NFL by the BALLS:

By suspending Ray Rice indefinitely, it violates the current rules put in place after this incident was closed. Everyone from the day the new rules came out had a clean slate (including Ray Rice). the rules are, first instance is 6 games, second instance is full year/indefinite. The MOST they could give him is 6 games at this point, but that is only if Ray Rice chooses to accept it. By the NFL rules and policies created by this incident, Ray and the NFL already agreed on 2 games. They can't change the scope of punishment now, that violates the punishment terms, and Ray can seek lost wages.

Secondly, if the NFL claims they never saw the elevator footage, and Ray Rice and his lawyers can prove that they did. Ray has another law suit by defaming his character to protect league integrity. I honestly hope Ray attacks the league and heads roll for this. Goodell, it's nice knowing ya.

I understand your point, but you don't even need to see the elevator footage to know something terrible happened there and it should have been punished more severely to begin with.

I totally agree.

Steelers should sign him and let him return kicks if Archer can't go.

If he had busted her in the face without provocation then sure gone for ever. But since she did take a couple of swings at him and this was not an unprovoked action on Ray Rices part I say 6 games is about right.

what swings did she take? that half assed **** before they got on the elevator or the little push to get him off her when he was crowding her into the wall? She gave a little push, he shoves her back into the wall, she bounces off and stupidly advances on him. Before she does anything but scream, he punches her full in the face, knocking her head against the rail on the way to the floor. there is no reason to flat out punch a woman in the face...unless you are just a little ***** yourself.

That's the way you see it. My guess is you have never had an angry crazy assed woman jump on you hissing a spitting like a wet cat.

I don't believe that there's any excuse you can make for Rice in his actions in the elevator. At his size and strength compared to hers, he could have easily blocked any of her advances and gotten off the elevator. It's not like she pulled a knife or gun on him.

That is the way any sane MAN sees it. She was pissed because he pushed her into the wall.....She was moving toward him, but there is no justification for a full punch to the face of a woman like that....

without footage you can't know what happened, can assume it but can't be completely sure, also the victim practically justified his attack on her.
With that video you can see exactly how he hit her out of the blue, the guy is a piece of **** and he should have been banned at least 6 games from the start

Hitting someone, anyone for something like this is wrong. A male hitting a female under any circumstances is doubly wrong. A professional athlete, and not just any - a Pro Bowl Running back who trains and lifts weights and is in a physical category in the top 0.5% of humanity, hauls off and smacks a female. I consider that assault with a deadly weapon. She had no chance to defend herself and I do not care what she did - the video shows he seemed to survive her patty cake slap just fine. It probably hurt a bit less than James Harrison smacking him to the turf. He is a worm. No excuses. He got quite a bit less than he deserved.

I think he should be punished and allowed a chance to return. First offense. I do not know how any man could hit a woman with a closed fist like that. Damn.. He should be prosecuted like any other american would be..

You are out of your mind. She barely touched him, and hardly opened her mouth. "Jump on you hissing a spitting like a wet cat"? Did you watch the same video?

I've had some crazy ex's that have come at me with all sorts of "weapons" in their hands, never once did I give em a left hook and stand over them like the movie Friday. Here's what I learned from the video, Ray Rice has done this before. There was no hesitation and no remorse what so ever. I knew it had to be bad from the previous video, but seeing this video, and watching her head bounce off the wall, and him calmly adjust her body away from the door was just disgusting. The punishment was weak to begin with, but both the Ravens releasing him and the league suspending him just shows how gullible they think the average fan is.

Absolutely disgusting ALL the way around.

You misunderstand I am not defending what he did or saying its excusable. What I am saying is that Rice isn't the total mad dog menace some here are saying he is. I am also saying that the woman holds some accountability here to being that she did make this situation into a physical confrontation. I am simply saying that if we hold him accountable for battery we hold her accountable for battery. None of us would bat a eye if this was a small man who took a poke at Ben, Worilds or Kiesel and got knocked out, so why is it different when a woman starts a fight? If we are going to have equality between sexes we are going to have to have equal accountability between sexes.
