Colin Holb-a long snapper in the 6th ?now yinz have something legitimate to ***** at.

I don't care what anyone else thinks, but to me it's an embarrassment to your organization if you draft a long snapper with a draft pick and try to argue its merits with a straight face. Might actually be worse that trading up in the 4th round for a punter.....

And these little decisions are why I hate Tombert sometimes on draft days. For all the good they sometimes do, they just are so frivolous and wasteful with picks sometimes it just drives me crazy.

their reasoning is the weight factor or the lack of with so many college prospects

very little supply with a big demand

I kindof understand if they think the guy will replace Warren not that I like the pick........

Beast long snapper. At least we know he will be around come sept.

Antonio Brown was a 6th round pick

just sayin

As was Tom Brady.

6th round picks rarely have an impact in the league, but there's always that chance. Using the pick on a LS is just stupid.

Seriously, I cannot find anything on the guy. Does he have potential at any other positions?

Quick, name the last five Steelers 6th round picks and their current employer... and then consider if you should really be disappointed or not.

I can name one from 7 yrs ago. Antonio something

I'm not a fan of picking long snappers and I wouldn't have done it, but did anyone else realize that Warren is 35. Damn, it seems like yesterday when he was a young pup.

Depending on the contract. Snappers make a **** ton of money in a snap

And it really sucks losing a game because, of all things, the long snapper goofed up.

Just sayin.

Long snappers are always available after the draft. Find a raw athlete that you can develop with your late picks.

That's bullshit. What this is, just like the punter is LAZY. Instead of putting in the time and effort to looking and scouting and PAYING for undrafted guys that can punt and longsnap, we take the lazy way out, find a guy and actually use a draft resource on him to quick-fix our problem.

It's the laziest **** I see this organization do. Every year for the last 10 years they could have PAID for the best ******* long snapper to come out of college (because no one has drafted a long snapper before us I don't think). The BEST ONE. FOR TEN YEARS STRAIGHT. All you have to do is decide to pay up the money and do it. Call the kid's agent and pay him. Problem solved.

Instead of waiting until the last minute (and I don't even think it's that great a problem), that's what good organizations do. But not Tombert. If it was smart to draft long snappers, everyone would be doing it in rounds 6-7. But no other teams do. Don't sugar coat this. Other teams don't do it because it's dumb. We're not smarter than everyone else. We're dumb in this case. Plain and simple.

This team threw away a lottery ticket into the trash without scratching it off. That's the only way to look at it.

Who cares...

I expect this is pure economics. As a ten year vet with a couple of injuries recently, Warren is making 7 figures. We save about 800k and get first shot at the new crop. Hopefully the guy can do it.

he can really snap, he is a snappy snapper.

good thing we snapped him up where we did and was snappy about it. Because if you snap your fingers another team could snap in and snapsnap just like that he is gone.

You should see his dress,.........................DAM snappy DRESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Salute the nation

They did the same thing in 2004 with Drew Caylor. Cut him. Signed Greg Warren in 2005.

Lazy is indignantly declaring that no other teams do this without simply researching if that is true or not.

The last time a team drafted a LS in the 6th round was.... last year.

The problem with that is, whomever they have handling the economics part of it doesn't understand economics. On average, one long snapper is drafted every other year. Detroit drafted one last year, put out an article stating 7 had been drafted in the last 15 years. So, we make 8 in 16, one every 2 years, with the Steelers drafting 2 of the 8.

If they would have waited, could have gotten him as a priority free agent. In fact, you could do it each year. At worst, you would get the 2nd best long snapper in the draft. Most priority free agents get a signing bonus between $5,000-$10,000. The really valued ones can get up to $25,000. The Steelers could pay $50,000 each year to a long snapper and still pay less than they will hand this guy. His signing bonus should be roughly $130,000.

Just doesn't make sense any way you slice it. It is a poor use of resources. You are securing something that really can be secured for much less.

Look, I was advocating Elijah Qualls. I think, at worst, he could have taken McCullers job. Why not Brad Kaaya as a camp arm? They signed another QB after the draft. What about Isaac Rochell, the big DE from Notre Dame? We seem to like those Golden Domer DEs. Josh Carraway as a developmental edge rusher? Jylan Ware as a developmental tackle? What about Noah Brown, Malachi Dupre, Isaah Ford, or another WR to throw in that group since they spent a 2nd to elevate the competition in the room. What about adding another RB to challenge Knile Davis? I really doubt he has his fumble issues under control. What about maybe drafting a safety to compete with that group? Hell, give me his teammate, the big safety, maybe he can play down in the box (some thought he should be a LB in this draft anyway).

Last year, the Steelers long snapper had 149 snaps, that is FG, XP, and punts. Say they draft a DB that can be your gunner. He would be on the field for the 68 punts. If he blocked the gunner when we get punts or covered kickoffs, he would see more snaps than the long snapper, and if he was a guy that could be developed to play a defensive position, he would have more value.

Never understood this, but I guess it is why they get paid the big bucks. I'm just surprised nobody in the room said....Kevin, Mike, are we really going to draft a ******* long snapper? Really? Same argument here as the Dri Archer deal, you just don't spend that type of draft capital on that value of player at this point. Meh. **** it, done now.

I agree TMC. I was shocked and my heart sank when I saw it. I can only assume that Warren is injured/struggling and they didn't have any confidence in the UDFA market.

They must have been pretty sure about the guy though to spend a 6th. With such a deep draft it smacks of panic - kind of like Sepulveda.

This was a definite head scratcher. I thought the position listed was a misprint when it flashed up on the screen at first. If nothing else, being a Long Snapper, I'm sure the guy would have still been there in the 7th if they felt they had to draft him in order to get him. .

The average is one LS every other year. But, no draft has 2 taken. So, at worst, you get the 2nd best LS in the nation and every other year, you get the #1 guy. Just have to outbid everyone, which is probably going to be 1/5th of what a 6th round pick makes. Our last LS was signed as a UDFA after we drafted one the year before that never made the roster.

Yep, that sums it up.

Hopefully we got a player that can snap...TJ Watt can pop. Just need a player that can crackle.

OH I stand with you, I was just more repeating what they said when talking about the pick.

I mean if you have to draft one why not the 7th?

I think the Pats drafted one recently.

But yeah you would think you could find one after the draft. Or not wait until you feel you have to draft one.

It is almost like their free agency approach, seems lazy. Never aggressive. And now the draft mirrors that.

Never moving up or down, because hey we love all the guys there in front of us honest!

Perhaps Colbert has gotten too comfy in his skin............
