Nate Peterman is consistently being hyped up as the best quarterback so far. He improved each year at Pitt and it'll be interesting how high teams are on him in a relatively weak quarterback class. Surprising mobile in the pocket and decent accuracy, can spread the ball around and is slowly developing touch.
early in the year when i heard Peterman talked about as one of the best QBs in the country, i thought they were nuts. But this class of QBs is so weak that Peterman may be the best, and i think his ceiling is an Alex Smith or Chad Pennington.
Who else is there? Desean Watson has lots of upside but he's got lots to learn. His best moments are on broken plays and not just dropping back and throwing on time to an open man.
Watson is bound to benefit from Dak Prescott. The problem is, Dak did not really have a great season as a passer. Sure he made plays when he had to but his job was really easy. That OL and the run game with Elliott was so good that teams had to committ 8 to stop it. That left Dak with all day to throw against some really soft coverages.
That's not taking away from Dak. He had a great season for a rookie, but his situation was unique. Few rookies get to play on such a good team. Some team is bound to think Watson can do the same but he's likely a project.
Deshon Kizer? I saw him play plenty of times and at no time did i ever think i was watching a great QB. At times, i thought he sucked. He has all the physical tools and ND had enough talent around him that he should have been better .
Mitch Trubisky. This guy just looks streaky to me. Feasted on bad defenses and struggled vs good ones.
There's not a single QB in this draft that i would spend a high pick on. They all look like projects or backups to me. I would rather spend a pick on CJ Beathard of Iowa or Josh Dobbs of Tennessee in a late round.
Dobbs is the guy who could be this year's Dak Prescott. The knock on Prescott was accuracy, but he wasn't coached as a passer. He was coached to run a spread. Dobbs could be in that same boat and benefit from coaching.
