That's as good as it gets with Tomlin

i stopped reading when you said the Browns would be tougher lol. No point of reading any further.

You just keep that in mind Dan. They have the 1st and the 12th pick in the draft. Eventually they'll get somebody decent. Even the Browns can't stay terrible forever.

There was no excitement or intensity on our side pregame or during the game didn't even look like an AFCCG.

I don't have a problem with that, with so many young kids with little playoff experience as a coach I do not want to over hype the moment or the game.

I'm not saying Tomlin should've been pumping them up or anything, but the players didn't seem excited, their heads were down as soon as NE scored, Ramon Foster said there was no urgency by the team, you see the sideline during the game, no excitement at all, they almost looked scared

Do you think it may have had something to do with the talent that was already at his disposal. Call that spin that however you want but with a young Ben, Hines, Santonio, Heath Miller, Willie Parker, Jerome, good OL and st that time a pretty damn good DB led defense with A younger Harrison and Woodley there. You think the table was set? Do you now?

You COACH the talent you have. Name a ooach that turned over his roster completely and won a title the next season ? The fact is you wont....You all think just plugging in a coach with cap, whistle and headsets results in success given a certain level of talent...We have seen this experiment turn out to be bullshit...Philly a few years back is one example. Redskins with Bruce Smith, Primetime etc is another. And SDiego with Marty ?

Next coach that comes in if we fire Tomlin, lets purge the entire roster, and have em start from base.......will he win 8 games ? **** no....so stop with this silly *** "he had a championship caliber team"..If it was such then why wasn't the team a SB participant the season prior to Tomlin taking over.

But we ***** when they make big plays on the field and demonstrate excitement and euphoria......its always something.

I don't *****, celebrate all you want, just try not draw a flag. PLAYERS are coming out and saying there was no urgency from the players, not message board fans actual PLAYERS.

I think we all know or should know that 2006 was a season where Cowher was going thru the motions with a major distraction of knowing he would soon lose his wife. Cowher should have left after the 2005 season and been with his family. He was in no condition to coach this team in 2006.
Tomlin stepped in to a great situation and there is no denying that.

Man it's sad. I've been saying this about our team for YEARS. When he come out flat against losing teams, or blow big leads, or have long losing streaks during a season only to try to make it up at the end, etc. This team under Tomlin has always lacked urgency. I've always said it. They think they only need to turn it "on" when absolutely necessary. We're basically going on year 11 of this

I didn't see Tomlin out there dropping TD passes or running out of position on pass defense. Watch the game again, time after time, you will see DBs running the wrong way, rather than being responsible for their part of the zone. I just don't think they have the talent (DBs and pass rush) to play press man coverage. You can't make chicken salad with chicken ****.

See the bolded is where you are undoing your own conclusion. Sure it wasn't Tomlin himself physically running the wrong direction. And if it were one or two isolated times, ok fine blame the player. But like you said - this happened TIME AFTER TIME. How many mistakes and stupid plays do players need to make before you think "well maybe if they were coached better, this wouldn't be such a thing?" Every player does something stupid occasionally. But time after time? Yeah. That's coaching.

Really, lets see:

1) Head coach's wife was battling cancer, sure that had NO bearing on the season
2) QB smashes face into a moving car before the season starts
3) QB has appendectomy at the start of the season
4) Because of the 2 aforementioned items, the QB lost 15 lbs and missed most of off season practices and training camp
5) QB was concussed against Atlanta for his 2nd concussion in 4 months.

But none of that had ANY bearing on whether that was a SB team or not.

I seem to recall a few years ago after we missed the playoffs two seasons it was: he sucks...we haven't made the playoffs in 2 seasons....

Then we made the playoffs and lost with an assortment of injuries to Baltimore and it was....he sucks, not having won a playoff game in 5 seasons.

Then we win on the road with injuries to both running backs and subsequently lose to Denver minus AB, Bell and DWill and its......he sucks, only having one playoff win in 5 seasons

This year, we make it to the AFCCC and "he still sucks".....cant use the no playoffs argument, nor the "haven't won in x number of years" .....looking back over the last 4 years id say the arrow is still pointing up. Wouldve been nice to have had Bryant in the mix as well as Heyward, Senquez and Ladarius but hey, you roll with the dogs the towed the sled to the party.

Im not gonna ***** about this season, it was a success in my opinion given what we dealt with (suspensions and injuries) and the contributions and growth from some future stars on this team. We have drafted well with 10 starters (3 of em rookies) or major contributors selected since 2013.

So youre choosing to lean on excuses I see.......you sure youre not leaving any more excuses out ?

Tell me what players were different from the SB winning team and the team Tomlin took over...anyone that reads that list and sees excuses is just blowing smoke up their own *** to further their agenda.

I think this team exceeded it's potential. Most people had exaggerated expectations for the offense which lost it's
#2, #3 and #4 receiving options from the 2015 team in (Bryant, Miller, Wheaton). On defense we started 3 rookies and
greatly improved from the beginning of the year. Some were even saying we had the best defense at the end of the year.

If we add Green and Bryant to this offense, we won't have exaggerated expectations going into 2017. And on defense if
can come close to the defensive draft of 2016 in 2017, we might be looking at one of the best NFL defenses for years to
come.

So you're cool with averaging one playoff win every other year over the last six seasons, topped off with an embarrassing loss to the Patriots, a game in which Tomlin has been almost universally condemned for being out-coached, even by some of his own players. OK.

I'm sorry. It's tough for some of us to get overly fired up about:

a) a last-minute wild card win over the Bengals, who were starting AJ McCarron and have still not won a playoff game since 1990, or
b) a wild card win over the Dolphins, who were 12-point underdogs, started Matt Moore, and have not won a playoff game since the turn of the century, or
c) a second round win over the Chiefs, led by Alex Smith, who have won one playoff game since 1993.

Winter is coming. Especially if/when Ben hangs them up.

topseed, you nailed it!:smug:

Tomlin when he arrived continued to change the Mystic that we had one time. We played physical angry football, now we show little heart.

I brought that up in another thread too, there was no intensity or excitement on our part, but you'll soon get bashed for that

The problem with the whole "Cowher's head wasn't in it in 2006 because his wife had cancer" bit is that his wife wasn't diagnosed with cancer until 2010. She passed a few months after her diagnosis. So, yes, it had no bearing on that particular season.

why wasnt it a super bowl team the year after tomlin 'won' a super bowl?.............seems like that for sure was super bowl caliber team

But the point is, without Ben, Cowher's team was a 2-6 team. When Ben came back and was playing full time the second half, they ended up 6-2 for that half of the season. All those great players that won with Tomlin couldn't do it missing ONE player, which is the same thing that is said about Tomlin "sub .500 coach without Ben".

Those players, apparently, still had to be coached, I guess? Or no? I don't get it. Well, I do....

topseed, you nailed it!:smug:

I'd be more impressed if you doom and gloomers hadn't been telling us that we wouldn't even make the playoffs in the first place, much less beat a team that ran all over us during the regular season and were told KC would be more than this team could handle, too.

I didn't see Bellicheat out there dropping TD passess or missing tackles either. It was perhaps because he's taken time to coach his players and get them prepared, just as any other HC is paid to do...

But but but that was with Cowhers players.

Cause all those weaknesses pointed out in a earlier post for why he cant now didn't matter then I guess. Oh that's right he didn't do anything at all on those teams I forgot.

Just mind boggling how the narrative changes around here. I already know the next one if he does win one before Ben retires. Well that one didn't really count cause he had Ben. Let's see him win won without Ben until then he still sucks.

Just reminds how many SB have Tomlin taken the Steelers to once Cowhers's players retired?
