IMO we had the talent to play defense like you have to vs NE,

They're almost always in some variation of that freaking three deep shell where the corners are a mile deep and they ask too much of their LBs and safeties in coverage, especially against the Patriots whose offense revolves around throwing between the numbers.

Seriously, how many times were the Patriots able to isolate Davis, Timmons or Shazier on one of their WRs tonight? It's being outschemed and outcoached. Plain and simple.

Belichick and McDaniels ate Tomlin and Butler's lunch, forced them to the ground, opened their mouths and **** it down their throats.

Just pathetic.

They got rid of Lebeau, but have basically kept his defense, which has been proven time and again not to work against NE. Like anything else in the NFL, that defense has been figured out, and the better teams know how to beat it.

Ben??? How passes do our WRs have to drop before people blame them and not Ben? He's one if the few guys that came to play

Reasons we lost are many. Here are a few observations from this game:

1) Tomlin and staff are simply not on the level that New England's coaching staff is and it shows. Their defense had a good plan to stop any big plays
2) Ben, again did not play his best in a road game. He had a good stretch in the 2nd quarter but overall I'd give him a C+ today. Nothing special from him.
3) Losing L. Bell hurt but it wasn't like they were using him a lot in the gameplan - more on this in a moment.
4) Sammie Coates better get an eye exam in the off-season. The guy had 3 balls hit both hands and he missed all three. I wasn't a big fan of the first drive, 3rd and 1 call but Ben put the ball on his hands on that deeper pass. He has to catch that. Should have run Bell on that 3rd and 1, especially since he picked up 9 in 2 runs and seemed to be finding holes. No momentum to start the game.
5) WR unit has to be better next year. Coates dropped several. Hamilton dropped a TD. This team needs 2 more dependable weapons in the passing game. Lots of questions with Bryant, Coates, Rogers, Ayers and a very expensive TE who can't seem to find the field.
6) Offensive play calling in this game was rather lackluster and predictable. Haley has his moments but tonight wasn't one of them. He needs to expand his game a bit.
7) Defense - Butler was taken to school just like his previous boss was. Played the same system and got the same result. Is it arrogance or ignorance?
8) Defense - New England wins on the scheme matchup. Pittsburgh cannot cover Julian Edelman with Lawrence Timmons and yet they try over and over again. We cannot cover any New England WR with James Harrison and yet we try. We fail on scheme. I'm going to say it out loud. The 3-4 zone matchup does not work against Belichek anymore. If it ever worked, that game was played prior to 1999. He's figured out how to exploit this system with this personnel package. We cannot cover WR with outside linebackers like the ones on this roster. If we want to cover WR with LB then we better start drafting smaller and faster LB. Why, why, why will the Steelers not line up in press man-to-man, and blitz Brady every play. Hit him repeatedly because when that happens he doesn't like it and can get rattled. The pretty boy can't stand contact. Sure, we give up some big plays for scores but guess what - we give up scores anyway.
9) Defense - No pressure, no pressure, no pressure all night. One reason is our DB are 10 yards off the line of scrimmage so Brady can dump the ball immediately. We don't cover the short pass and we don't get pressure. Game was lost before it was played.
10) Defense -the secondary looked lost and out of sorts many times tonight, left several completely uncovered. Maybe Butler was drunk when he put the game plan together? Were the signals not getting in correctly? Who knows but it sure looked like our defense was running different plays on the same play. Looked bad.
11) Todd Haley should never be permitted to call another play from the 1 yard line. Never. Ever.
12) 22-0. 22 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. That should be tattooed on Tomlin's and Butler's foreheads. That screams having a bad plan and then being too stubborn to change it. They have no clue how to stop Brady but they have certainly figured out what Brady likes to play against.

Frustrated like all of you but it's worse when you see a team that is so badly out-coached every time these teams match up. Even if we had better players, it's not going to matter until the scheme against the Patriots changes.

See you at the Draft.

Good lord... that is just embarrassing. I have no other word for it besides, pathetic.

Keep in mind that that's going all the way back to 2001. In fact, we've been their ***** since 1996, which is when Hoodie first arrived as defensive coordinator after being fired by Cleveland.

He was their db coach in 1996, the moved onto the Jets until 2000

What defense?

I told you we needed 40 points

Our coaching stinks, starting with Tomlin. He looks confused against good teams, no adjustments on defense by the DC, we have no strategy or creativity, yesterday we couldn't or wouldn't blitz. We make the playoffs every year because of the division we are in, which is the worst in the NFL. Finally, after 10 years of Tomlin, we have an offensive line that pass blocks. Face it, during the regular season we had our .....handed to us by MIAMI!!!!

How about another abysmal display by a Tomlin led team against a decent team!

I'll give the coaches credit for the run we had, the defense was coming after the QB's, 31 sacks in 9 games, most by any team, but we get to this game and we use a defense we haven't used since like week 4 or 5, a defense every ******* fan knows will not work vs NE, but Tomlin uses it any ways, what the ****??????

Ben is a badass! How anyone can blame him for putting balls into receivers hands, who drop them is beyond me. How about blaming Tomlin and the coaching staff. They suck!

Our division is far from the worst in the NFL. The AFC South is beyond pathetic, and the East is right behind them.

Looks like someone has rejoined under a new handle for the 100th time. How long before he gets banned again?

Burns.Davis Cockrell, give up to many easy yards. They can'T tackle, they get completely turned around with no clue where the ball is. ONE play a game does not get it. Last night coverage was all this
.

Fixed it for you.

Brady ate up whatever defense they tried yesterday and he ate up lebeau and the zone blitz too. They own us. And have for a long time. Starting to think it's mental

The one time we actually beat them is when we played man basically the entire game. It was Cortez Allens 1st or 2nd year and he was assigned to Gronk and did a great job. After the game, Brady said he never saw that from our defense before. That being said, the scheme was quickly thrown away and never used again.

This ^^

I can still recall that game, and the satisfaction I got from seeing Brady dancing in the pocket, knowing pressure was coming, and not having some wide open guy settling into the middle of a zone as an easy completion.

Oh, and remember how Ben started that game by going to Heath Miller six times as the Steelers offense blew through Patsies defense like it was not there and scored a TD on the opening possession?

Yeah, it worked so well, the Steelers knew they had to hide those approaches for when they are really needed, like a playoff game against the Patsies.

Wait ...

we didn't try anything different yesterday, look what we did in 2012 to beat them, we came after Brady, jammed their wr's, we did none of that yesterday, and yes Brady may have still went off, but we don't know, we didn't even ******* try, why go away from the defense that got us here, the defense that produced 32 or whatever sacks in 9 games???? At least if you jam the wr's and play more man, and send your pass rushers, Dupree and Harrison you at least make the throwing windows tighter and Brady may have to hold the ball a second longer. Seriously can anyone think of one ball Brady had to fit into a tight space? Hell Ben played better than Brady did because he had to make difficult passes. If you took Brady off that team yesterday and put Landry Jones at QB and we ran that exact same defense, Jones would've hit those open guys, it was that easy.

I don't think we do. Starting 3 rookies? Granted the plan stunk and needs explained but we need more experience and more talent on defense.

I thought Ben played a very good game. He put the ball on the spot on most throws. Gotta catch it. Or it also helps to look for the ball when Ben got picked. How far was DHB going to run before he turned around?

I couldn't believe it when I saw them rushing three and playing way off the ball on the opening drive.

I can't help but wonder if Tomlin and Butler outsmarted themselves by thinking they would throw something at Brady for which he hadn't prepared. Why they thought it would work, who knows?

Brady doesn't have to prepare for that defense, he can beat that in his sleep

You give any elite QB 8-10 seconds and SOMEONE is going to be open, I don't care what "look" Butler and Tomlin thought they were going to throw at them. If you are going to lose, at least go down fighting and being aggressive trying to make a splash play. Our defense last night should have been called the Grab-2, grab both your ankles and get ready...

My main complaint is that Shazier is our fastest LB. LT is bigger and, probably, stronger. Yet, I saw LT dropping into coverage more with Shaz blitzing in the middle. I think they'd have more success the other way around.
