Chuck Noll "A Football Life" on NFL Network Friday night at 9:00 pm. Like starting now.

So that was good. DVR it.

Give me a coach like Chuck Noll anyday over Cowher or Tomlin. We went from a man's coach to a Pussified Coach.....OBVIOUSLY!

Wasn't it interesting, that he told his wife. that this is a Super Bowl team. but I just don't have anything left, and retired. Cowher took them to an 12-4 record that year and #1 seed.

With "Nolls players" and lost in the playoffs. Some here would have demanded he be fired.

I have been making this argument for years in response to the "Tomlin won with Cowher players" crap. The core of Cowher's first teams were Noll players.

I made this argument not because I feel Tomlin is this great coach, but because it is a stupid ****** argument. Whoever the coach is when they win is who deserves the credit.

DVR set. Chuck was a one of a kind, often misunderstood talent.

Excellent show. If anyone doubts he should be in the conversation for best of all time, you should see it.

Cowher turned that roster over pretty quick though, how many of Nolls players were starting in the Super Bowl?

Thanks for the heads up...Hopefully, there will be a reply so I can DVR it...

its always good to understand the "philosophy" of success, especially from those that have been there done that...

Life Lessons...

And that's fine. I have no argument to that. Cowher deserves all of the credit for what he accomplished from the minute he became head coach, as did Noll and as does Tomlin.

What I don't understand about the venom towards Tomlin in this regard is he deserves credit for not being a huge ego and having to put his stamp on the team like so many coaches do. He could have come in and turned the team over. How stupid would have that been? Which is even more reason the whole argument is just asinine.

I think there's room for both style of coaches, but in today's game, having a great teaching coach who pays attention to detail is something rare. I don't think there are many coaches today that take this approach and I see a lot of value in it.

I think the main argument is that he's been here 10 years now and not one unit is better now than what he took over, and as the cowher players left the team got worse.

I think when Noll coached, coaches didn't have to treat players like prima dona cry babies. Teams will get rid of the coach before the high paid entitled whiner player these days.

PLUS, he is NOT a known cheater !!!!!!!!!!

NOT neccessarily as the ONLY player that might have a hand in coaching change is Ben Rothlesberger. On this team that is.

Kinda similar to Cowher's situation in 2006. Chuck Noll and his staff knew how to develop talent

In Nolls time players were different as well as society in general. There was not all this political correctness and worrying about hurt feelings and what not. Also players are so pampered now a days they are like giant kids. It is almost impossible to compare coaches from different eras.
As for tomlin i do not think he helps this team. He seems to follow the modern liberal trend. I think the team needs a coach more like cowher. This team lacks real leadership and needs a more hands on in your face coach. A few players seem to be stepping up and speaking out which is both good and bad because certain things could cause locker room drama. It would be better coming from the coach or staying behind closed doors.
The team has been more physical lately, but we have gone against two of the worst olines. Hopefully it will at least give them some confidence.

He gets credit for not getting rid of all the good players when he came in? That's really reaching for something positive.

Yea, he does, dammit. Unless you live under a rock, over the years you have seen many coaches have to do their thing, the latest being Chip Kelly. There is no reaching when there is truth. Idiots who say Tomlin won with Cowher guys are reaching. It's like saying if I borrow your fishing rod and lure and catch a big trout it is really your catch. It's stupid.

Try to understand what I am arguing. Nowhere am I saying Tomlin is this great coach. The guy pisses me off as much as anyone. But to not give him credit for coaching a team to a championship is just ****** childish. I absolutely hate that contention. If you say he doesn't develop talent, or he can't handle challenges or he drafts poorly or whatever, fine. That is a reasonable debate. But to not give him the credit for winning a Super Bowl?

I disagree with that slightly. The OL was starting to leak oil in 2006. Injuries and age. It is definitely better now. Took a while, but it is better.

Otherwise that is a valid argument. Why haven't they been drafting well or developing talent well? Valid. To not give him credit for winning a Super Bowl, not valid.
