So he has been on the team 6-7 weeks. Been practicing, should know the playbook decent enough, might need a little time to gel with receivers but knowing what we all know about Landry Jones how short is his leash? I give him the first half of the Pats game then evaluate. Are we winning, losing or are we close or are we getting a beating and he has 4 INT's. I think at half time I let him stay if we are winning or close. If we are losing by more than 2 TD's I pull the plug and put in Mettenberger.

Thoughts?

Landry should be taken to the confluence of three rivers and sacrificed to the football gods before the game.

Our backup QBs tend to be made of glass anyway. There won't need to be a leash on Landry. He will tweak, tear, break, or sprain something before halftime anyway.

I just hate ever seeing Landy Jones out there. He inspires zero confidence, makes zero plays....just a ******* insurance salesman in the waiting. His aura couldn't scream "LOSER!" any louder.

Mettenberger does not know the offense..he only runs the scout team in practice. He runs our opponents offense in practice. He is nowhere ready to replace Landry Jones

I just hope the game plan is adjusted to account for someone other than Ben being in the game.

But the guy who hasn't played is always better.

So they haven't given him a playbook?

I'm pretty sure he has but he hasn't practiced it. This week will be his first time practicing our offense outside of a few reps he may get for Landry

Mettenberger should be signed thru 2017 at a reasonable rate(under 700k). I know Laundry sucks, but I wouldn't be upset if they retained Jones at close to the minimum for 2017 and let him and Mettenberger battle it out in camp for the backup spot. If Zach wins, maybe you do a smallish extension with him at that point and groom him to be the bridge QB after Ben retires. If Zach and Landry are still recycled garbage next camp, you draft a QB fairly early in 2018.

So do we start someone who doesn't know the offense or someone who has been with the team for years and can't execute the offense he is supposed to know? This game is an L anyway - might was well see what we have with Mettenberger.

And...if he runs the opponent's offense in practice, could he emulate Brady? Might be worth a look.

What's worse? Batch, Leftwitch, Gradkowski, Vick, Jones... have all had to play in Ben's stead... and all have gotten injured during that time. WTF? That to me is awkwardly amusing.

Batch was a fair back up. Played pretty well, for the most part.

Then got injured. I agree, dude had some nice wins under his belt spelling Ben. Just pointing out, how backups were injured shortly after

Batch and Gradkowski both spent two consecutive seasons on IR, Gradkowski just from injuries in practice. We talkin' 'bout practice. Practice.

Vick was a veteran who has had some success in the NFL. Berger is 0-10 as a starter.

I say we call up a proven winner like Bubby Brister or Tim Tebow. Either would be better than Landry Jones.

Neither does Carson Wentz or Dak Prescot. Mettenberger has a live arm and can make plays down the field. This issue with him is hes mistake prone.

I'd give Landry Jones this start but prep Mettenberger for next week just in case.

Note to Haley, run Bell and Williams often, Use the FB to amp up the running game. Use a 2 TE set for max protect, then mix in screens and play action.

So you are comparing Wentz and Prescott to MettenBerger. Both went thru mini camps and training camp and preseason running their team offense compared Berger who has been here for 4 weeks. In that 4 weeks the season has started and he is running the scout team offense. There aren't any or very few reps given to the third string QB to run our offense throwing to the top receivers But other then that it's the exact same as Prescott and Wentz. SMH

First play of the game: Landry long bomb to Coates. It must be done.

^^^so you wanna start with a pick eh?^^^

First play wildcat, followed by 59-69 more plays in the wildcat...if we rush for 300 we win!!!

Lol wildcat was what I was thinking too.. Essentially play Le'Veon at QB the entire game..
