Zach Mettenberger

http://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=400874768

Anyone remember this game? I am sick of this Mettenberger ran the scout team so he can't play. He also has been on the team for 7 weeks, in the film room for 7 weeks, in the team meetings for 7 weeks. It's football not rocket science. The game is too fast for Jones and we all know it. Mettenberger at this point is an unknown. I am fine with starting Jones as he is the backup but I make sure Mettenberger is prepared to go in if I am Tomlin and have a short leash on Jones. If Jones has a 4 INT first half there's not a chance he comes out and plays the second half.

Thank you Ron and know I am NOT a laundry jones fan either. The key to winning this game will fall on the "D". I hope Butler comes up with something innovative...................................like maybe turn overs or something of that nature......Throw in a 3-8 sacks.!!! (by uncle Jarvis)

Against the pasty pawtuckets? You jam their recievers. Brady's strength is short routes. He throws a damn good deep ball. But doesn't rely on it

Landry and the O can put up 21 or so but it won't matter because the Pats**** will put up at least 40.

Landry Jones comes across looking disinterested.

The "whatever happens, happens" approach.

Not surprised he would say something like "don't panic".
That's Landry Jones.

Jones needs to look at the game, Bill-I-cheat will take the running game away and it will be up to Jones accuracy to move the ball. Hope Tomlin sees the same thing.

That is why it is so problematic to lose Ben. Specifically, Bellichick will "take away the opponent's best weapon."

Okay, so take away Bell running the ball ... opening up Bell catching the ball, and Brown catching the ball, and Coates catching the ball, and James catching the ball.

Now? Steelers have to rely on Jones throwing the ball. Not what we want.

But what I am looking for is a signature game from the defense. Step up and do something decent, boys.

In fairness to Landry, he was supposed to be the third string QB and not Ben's backup, but that's what he is, a third string QB. If Ben has to miss a game, this is the one because they're unlikely to win anyway with this many backups playing on defense.

Ben will mis this one and MOST likely another one or more. I'm on this bandwagon if Laundry doesn't look like much we NEED to put in metenberger and see what he's got.

Maybe in an alternate universe. I think we will be lucky to get 10. Maybe 17 if we get a garbage time TD.

I was trying to be positive but my score prediction is Pats**** 49 Steelers 9.

I bought New Englands defense on all my draft king leagues. A steal at $2,900. I get that Jones has to start as he is the backup and Mettenberger didn't get training camp and preseason with us. But I just don't see how he doesn't understand the offense after 2 months of being on the team. The routes are the same just different verbiage it is usually the option routes that need to be fine tuned between QB and WR. So what I do if I am Haley is take out the option routes for Mettenberger. If a guy is supposed to run a slant he runs a slant. If he is supposed to run a fade he runs a fade. If he is supposed to run a go he runs a go. It will definitely hurt the offense considering option routes are usually designed for zone coverage as the QB and WR read the defense and both pick the soft spot in the D and the Pats play a lot of zone if not all. But it will at least take the guessing away from Mettenberger so he can read the D find the route that will work best with that D and then execute.

The problem I have seen with Landry are two fold. One he can't read a defense so the receiver and him are on the wrong page. And two he can't execute or deliver when he throws the ball to the right read anyways.

In this game Landry is the best option. Going forward Berger will at least have some experience running the offense with the top guys since he as been the backup all week. After this week if Jones is struggling maybe you see a change..but not this week..

I'm guessing Mettenberger ain't the answer either.

you would think that the playbook would be vastly scaled back as well. Hopefully, it is for Landry.

wasn't there something that the first 16 plays are scripted, so that we can see how defenses react and make adjustments? if so, I'd expect the first 16 plays to look like this:

hand off
hand off
hand off
hand off
hand off
hand off
hand off
hand off

If Jones falters, the Steelers could turn to Zach Mettenberger, who was claimed off waivers from the San Diego Chargers on Aug. 31.

“The good thing here is if it does happen, all I gotta do is lean on the playmakers in this locker room,” Mettenberger said.

Mettenberger said he has been running the scout team in practice this week. Before Roethlisberger tore his meniscus, Mettenberger received few snaps in practice.

“It's good getting back in there and getting a feel for it,” he said.

we can dump the ball off to our backs and TE's, lots of hand offs and the occasional deep bomb to fast wr's.
