I'm finally seeing it with Pouncey

The cap space was the reason why we could not sign a player like Norman. He did move to another team.

Simply give me a 3rd round pick, ( possible a first if we tenure Pocuney just one year and another team takes him ) and the cap money for Pouncey's total contract, and show me who was out there at DB and Pass rusher, and the Steelers would be improved.

Lets see here, Pouncey's cap hits - 10m, 11m, 10m, 8m. Norman's cap hits - 8m, 20m, 17m, 14.5m, 15.5m... Sure those contracts clearly cancel each other out. Just because, Ben's cap hits - 24m, 18m, 23m, 23m. No way in ******* HELL we are paying a CORNER near franchise QB money...sorry! Yet another idiotic response

People on this board were always crying about Ben getting killed behind crappy o-lines, and now some want to weaken the line for a third round pick. SMDH! At 34, Ben needs a good line more than ever.

^^^
Ben creates magic. Offense is fine. The o-line has stepped up since Munchak came in

And please tell me the last time the Steelers signed an elite player from another team. . I'll wait.

Jeff Hartings if we're talking centers, but the three elite centers we've had previously hardly ever missed a game. Mostly they set or were close to setting records for consecutive games played. Pouncey is lucky to make it through a season without going on IR.

Hartings was a guard in Detroit. He wasn't some highly touted player that we broke the bank to sign. Coach said to use the money to sign Josh Norman. Who got 85 million.

Players love him. Coaches love him. Fans hate him. Make sense.

I'm a fan and it's not my money they're spending on him. As 81 said, it's not like the Steelers were going to pay big money for an outside FA, they only do that for their own.

I know that but he turned out to be a great center. Sure Pouncey can do all kinds of good things but he doesn't do them when he is (frequently) on the sidelines modeling the Duce Staley Memorial Sweatsuit.

Don't you mean the Duce Staley color rush warm up suit?...lol

What is he supposed to do what someone rolls into his leg? Or Decastro dives directly into his knee.

This isn't some nagging hamstring or rib injury.

The guy is elite. Some of you should appreciate him. We dealt with Sean Mahan and others for far too long.

I truly do not understand the hate he gets..everyone of his injuries were unfortunate unlucky plays.. I don't get it.

Holy horsepoo, one game was too long dealing with Sean Mahan. IMHO he is the worst player to ever serve as a Steeler starter.

Did you forget Jonathan Scott???

I don't hate the guy but some people are habitually unlucky. Great player when he's healthy but I wouldn't pay him a bunch of money again, at least not without a lot of incentives in it. Last year we were a third-string RB fumble away from the AFCCG with Cody Wallace at C all season.
Remember, he has essentially missed two full seasons in five years. Mike Webster started every game for eight consecutive years.

We were limited in the playbook with Wallace. Pouncey opens up the playbook immensely. Making us way way harder to defend

If I remember correctly Hartings was well paid when he signed to come here. I believe he had top Center money.

6 years 24 million. Good money, not sure where it ranks during that time period. Peanuts now obviously.

Regardless that isn't my point. Coach said we should save the money to sign Josh Norman... Please tell me what world that would happen.

No, Scott had no talent, pedigree nor was he expected to be a long term starter. Sean Mahan was signed to a 5yr $17M deal to be our center of the future. He **** the bed every game literally serving as a turnstile the entire time he played. You think our 08 OL was bad, put Mahan in the middle and it's epicly bad.

Just playing devil's advocate here ... but, why were we down to that third string RB? Why wasn't our "1st string, doesn't get near the hate Pouncey gets, RB"? ... Hell, if you want to get in someone's *** for unfortunate injuries, Bell certainly fits the bill ... aaaaand, you get a healthy dose of boneheaded suspensions to boot. Yet, I don't see anywhere near the vitriol thrown Bell's way that gets heaped on Pouncey ... haven't added up the games missed, but Bell has to be over 3/4 of a season in the last three years.

Bell has bad luck too. A knee directly to the helmet on a fantastic play that helped us win a critical game to win the division, and then again hurt by being horsecollared by a dirty *** player after a long run.

Yep, Bell does have bad luck ... and I'm not questioning his talent or effort ... However, there is a glaring difference between Bell's missed games due to injury/bad luck, Bell's missed games due to asinine behavior and Pouncey's missed games due to bad luck/injuries. I like both of them ... but, it seems that Bell gets the kid gloves (even though he's missing some of those games because of stupid decisions that lead to suspension); while Pouncey gets blasted for bad luck injuries. For some reason there's a double standard being applied by a lot of folks and I simply don't understand why

Well I did have to start a thread callng out the people who wanted Williams to start over Bell.. guess you could classify them in the same category as people who wanted to release MP.

He's not been here as long but I'm not crazy about him either. Again, I don't give him a big contract extension, I make it smaller with a lot of incentives. If he doesn't like it then don't let the door hit ya in the ***.

if you look at average salary over the contract rather than this year's cap hit, Pouncy is 5th. Not a lot ahead of the next two.

Depends on what you view as elite. Williams was a very good signing. If your talking about a franchise level free agent the steelers don't have the salary cap management skills for that. We have too much dead money keep older vets at a high salary number for two long and over pay some players.
