I'm finally seeing it with Pouncey

Up until recently, I always thought Pouncey was over-rated. I never saw why he was so highly touted, and to boot, he was always hurt.

But now I am finally seeing signs for why he is regarded so highly. I can see his athleticism and leadership. I hope he finally stays healthy as he does make the OL better.

Seeing him making blocks way down field makes me smile.

He is always making blocks way down field. That's how he got hurt last year.

Yeah, I never understood the Pouncey hate. No many centers are able to pull, and the ones that do usually enter the hall of fame.

Pulling is what he's best at. I think his listed weight is overstated, and he's not a great in-line blocker.

Why the fan angst on Pouncey? He's hurt too often, he has had some iffy off the field moments, and his cap number this year is $10,551,000

Personally, I would have let him walk, received a 3rd round pick, and used the money to sign a DB like say, Josh Norman or a stud pass rusher.

No one touches his athleticism. I can understand being upset that he has missed a lot of playing time due to injuries. I can see how that can rub fans the wrong way. But on the field, when he's healthy, Pouncey sets the bar.

I was proud to wear my Pouncey jersey during last week's game!

Most NFL starting centers can pull. Some systems cater to it.

With a back like Bell taking his time, he can take full advantage of a more mobile center. You can say these two complement each other well. Decastro can also pull well.

10 million isn't that much in today's day and age. Average lineman are getting paid huge money.

Why even acknowledge something like signing Norman when there wasn't any chance in the world that we were going to sign him .

Show me a list of centers that pull and I'll show you a very short list.

The cap space was the reason why we could not sign a player like Norman. He did move to another team.

Simply give me a 3rd round pick, ( possible a first if we tenure Pocuney just one year and another team takes him ) and the cap money for Pouncey's total contract, and show me who was out there at DB and Pass rusher, and the Steelers would be improved.

Steelerfan81 don't even click the link it has nothing to do with Pulling centers SMH

Honestly, I'm not sure why Pouncey is considered a top-5 C in the game.
Look, I love the guy's leadership, nastiness and athleticism for the position.
However, he gets overpowered on a consistent basis.
Not saying he sucks. Just don't get the "best C in the game" stuff.

With that said, I want him on our team.

Well like normal you give me some dumbfucked list that doesn't even give pulling as part of their criteria.

And 53 signed a new contract in June of 2014. We're they supposed to Invision that Norman would turn into an elite cornerback, and then the Panthers would take away the franchise tag?

Who would be the center? Cody Wallace ranked near the very bottom of PFF for centers last season. We put all this money into our line so now we should just say **** it and play some bum center.

And please tell me the last time the Steelers signed an elite player from another team. . I'll wait.

Lol told you not to click it

People on this board were always crying about Ben getting killed behind crappy o-lines, and now some want to weaken the line for a third round pick. SMDH! At 34, Ben needs a good line more than ever.

Well when we gave Pouncey his contract he was hurt more games than he played in. I like Pouncey ....I just didn't like paying as the highest paid center in the game when he added his name on the contract. I was really curious how they got a starting point when negotiations started.

Depends on your definition of "elite." Is Pro Bowl elite? Farrior. Kevin Greene. Bettis (trade). Jeff Hartings. All Pro Bowlers. But the point remains: Pgh does not sign many big name free agents.

Kevin Greene was a big name. The rest were considered good players but they blossumed once they became Steelers. We didn't go spend 85 million to sign any of them.

And when not pulling he can also frequently get onto a block at the 2nd level after redirecting his first defender, that list is very short as well.
I completely agree with you, I don't get the Pouncey disrespect either. He has had a couple unfortunate injuries, but that in no way diminishes the talent he brings.

Coach has held a grudge since his off field "incident" of the free Hernandez hat and keeps it going now with salary bias, typical.
