Browns trading Justin Gilbert to Steelers!

My neighbor is a Browns fan. His comment to me yesterday was, "Watch, it will figure if Gilbert goes to Pittsburgh and becomes a Pro Bowler now." That defeatist mentality is typical of every Browns fan I know at this point. POP must know the last few smarmy, cocky Browns fans left in existence. Most of them just expect the worst to happen in every scenario.

All I know is that IF this experiment works - we'll have FOUR DB's over 6' tall and can run like the wind:

1. Cockrell
2. Burns
3. Gilbert
4. Davis

I think our arrow is pointing up...

I think that our Safeties will have to cover for their lack of tackling ( the first three)

Although I was critical, I'm just looking at this with a jaundiced eye (the phrase comes to mind because I embalmed a majorly jaundiced person today), I DO hope he wins a SB ring and gets to the Pro Bowl just to pile on the Browns fans.

Browns fans are laughing at this move? They paid a 1st round price for a guy and traded him for a 6th round pick a couple years later ... and they are laughing?

If he turns it around and rediscovers what he showed in college then we got a first round player for next to nothing. If he doesn't pan out then we wasted a 6th round pick (something that has less than a 10% chance of ever working out.) Cleveland still wasted a 1st no matter what so who should be laughing?

On the other hand, we just cut last year's 4th round pick CB Doran Grant.

"Browns" fans laugh, that in itself is funny................

Salute the nation

Overall #8 choice in the draft versus the #121 pick -- not close to comparable.

With all the steelers have invested in the front 7, we should not have to rely on CBs to stop the run. Besides, if the steelers offense puts up the points we think it will, teams will be passing to keep pace.

The steelers have majorly upgraded their speed on defense. Gilbert may have failed as a starter in the browns scheme but the steelers may be asking less of him. Maybe in nickel, they just assign him man coverage on the fastest WR.

The cost is low, he's young and tall compared to a typical Stiller D back draftee.

As far as Browns fans laughing or mocking us, I put little stock in any fans of a team that has had to put up with the Johnny Manziel freak show the last 2 years.

Do you want to know why this was probably a good move... just figure out how much it would suck for the browns to lose a guy to us and have him turn out really good in the long run... then remember life pretty much goes out of its way to make things suck for cleveland in football...

no news in the last two days.. no quotes,, nothing. Anyone ?

Let's keep this in perspective

The 3-13 Browns have over $50M in cap space and will still suck the bottom out of the barrel

Soon the new owner will come in and fire everyone.

The new regime will talk about building through the draft.

Contracts will come up. The Browns will not re-sign those guys.

Brown's homers will say, "we didn't win w/those bums."

And the Merry-Go-Round of Misery will continue on it's never-ending circle of going nowhere.

That makes the most sense. Let them hunger for opportunities and make them earn them.

Given how frequently the Steelers, and the rest of the league for that matter, deploy three CBs, they're not going to hunger much for opportunities.

We're going to see a lot of Burns to start the season, and until Gilbert learns the defense, there really isn't going to be anyone to push Burns for playing time, regardless of how he performs.

They're really thin at CB.
