Browns trading Justin Gilbert to Steelers!

Weird how a bunch of posters wanted Tolbert to make a move to bolster our secondary. Same people called the NE's**** trade for Mingo was great and the Steelers always sit on their hands. This trade hits a need area with a very talented young man. I'm hoping a winning attitude will go a long way with him. He has the skill...just has to get his head on straight.

I like the trade. It's a 2018 6th round pick which has little to no value. Gilbert physically was one of the most athletic corner backs to come out of college in the last decade. He's 6-2 202lbs with legit 4.3 speed. I don't see him starting any time soon but I want to see where he's at come mid October early November.

If he played for the packers or rams and wasn't cutting it I don't make this trade but the browns? He very well could be the product of a poorly ran organization and the result of being poorly coached by them.

Good move front office.

We'll see. Hopefully in a few years we'll look back on this and the trade will rival the Bettis trade. If it doesn't we lost a 6th round pick in 2 years. What have we got to lose? Hopefully the change of scenery will do him some good but I'll temper my enthusiasm until we see what he can do out on the field at this level.

Welcome to The Burgh young man, now get your **** in gear.

Yeh, I tend to agree. This is a gamble and not a big one at that. The biggest downside I see is the "rotten apple" theory. An attitude problem can sometimes drag a team down but I believe this team is a little more grounded than the average NFL outfit and has enough leaders to help this kid turn himself around. Look at DHB and the help he has given us....we dang sure could use some of that kinda talent help on the 'D' side too.

Well, as long as he hasn't taken up the toking habit that is.

Great point Chip. DHB came to us with a lot of baggage and a reputation for drops.

He's been a solid contributor to the offense and has embraced his role in the offense. If our team dynamics and positive attitude can carry over to Gilbert, we could be looking at the next Steelers big pick up on the cheap. He's a fired up kid who wants to win and played for a perennial loser. That would wear on the best of attitudes over time. Easy assessment that this is a pretty safe pick up. Who did we have that was better? Time will tell.

I think we can all agree that our veteran players and our coaches can get Gilbert on the right track. He was definitely a player the team coveted 2 years ago so hopefully they can knock his attitude out of him and tap into that potential. Winning helps heal a lot of things. He was a loser in Cleveland. He is now on a perpetual winning team with the best QB in football. If he has any thoughts on getting a ring in his career, the next few seasons are his best shot. GO, GO, GILBERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell, if I were drafted by the Browns, id have a ****** attitude and would be late to any and everything Browns related.

Im sure when Colbert called inquiring about Gilbert as an option, im sure he expected to hear something along the lines of "for you, you can take him home for 4th and a 1 of the Five Wide ******* !!!" but when he heard all they wanted was a 6th ...TWO YEARS FROM NOW......he jumped on that like a Malaysian hooker at a Navy ship docking party.

Just the idea he's close to winning a ring this early in his career should ignite some drive in him to wanna compete, help the team become better defensively and to let him THINK his arrival was a key missing ingredient on the road to 7. He knows what he's escaped and now hes got a fresh baptism and he can rejoice. He'd better (rejoice).

Anyone with an attitude coming into this team will have to answer to a certain number 92, I'm not concerned about an attitude.

Yeah a 6th round pick has less than a 5% chance at becoming a starter in the nfl. I understand there's factors we don't get to see that the browns obviously did. But I'd say he has a better than 5% chance at resurrecting his nfl career with us.

And lets be honest after Gay, Cockrell, Grant, and Burns who else really was going to make this squad by any other reason than we need a body. I think this gives us until Golson comes back to evaluate Gilbert and if he's not getting it done then cut him.

I find it funny that POP wants to point to Gilbert's attitude and lack of respect as to why this kid is such a piece of crap. Somebody's seeing a reflection, because according to his analysis POP is the Justin Gilbert of our forums "a piece of crap with a bad attitude that will only be a cancer to these forums". I think he is describing himself.

Also I'm sure his Patriots made a fantastic move trading for Mingo though.......

Hopefully this trade works out and we get a productive defender and not Anthony Smith v2.0.

Fellas, my entire family is Clowns fans. I'm the only one with any sense. So I say this as a Steeler die hard.
Justin Gilbert is garbage. He was getting torched by Corey Coleman every day in camp this year before Coleman got injured.
He has maturity issues, and he has not adjusted to the NFL game where you need more than athletic ability to succeed.
Yes, he's AWESOME below the shoulders. But from the shoulders up he's lost on the field and a cancer in the locker room.
We wasted a draft pick, albeit a 6th in 2 years, on someone who was getting cut before the 53 deadline.
Hope and wish all you want for him to amount to something/turn it around/change a scenery/etc.
Just don't hold your breath nor poop in the other hand.
He'll go faster out of here than Boykin did.

I was afraid someone would post something like this...afraid because I believe it to be true.
I live near Cleveland. The consensus around here for quite a while has been that Justin Gilbert is garbage.

Clown fans are just as happy to see him go as Steeler fans are in acquiring him.

Yeah...brilliant move. A tiger can't change his stripes.

I hope this is another time where we can laugh at Clev. for screwing the pooch I'll settle if he's good enough to maintain a roster spot for returns and decent DB depth. If there is a fire in his belly to prove his worth as a #8 overall pick, this should be the organization to get that redemption. He has the physical tools and a kick in the *** could bring it all together.

Risk vs Reward. What Justin Gilbert will show up In Pittsburgh. The good the bad and the ugly of the trade.

Welcome to post 138....

But we'll worth the cost?

I have a feeling that Coolie will just cut him before the first game.
The start of the season will bring on the Darth Hoodie/Marsha-fest any moment now....

All I know is all my Browns' fans friends texted me laughing about this.

I'm not excited about this either, as Gilbert has been an epic bust thus far, but what exactly are they laughing about? The fact they traded their 2014 top 10 pick to the Steelers for a 2018 6th round pick?

as if any browns fan had anything to laugh for...

usually they are crying over their factory of sadness of a football team...............
