Browns trading Justin Gilbert to Steelers!

He's by far the best kick returner we have on the team right now, he can take that over day 1. With teams expected to kick the ball shorter with the new 25 yard touchback rule, he should see a lot of returns. Well worth the investment.

Not a bad move by the front office. This is a guy they reportedly really liked in the draft, so they know what they are getting in terms of athletic ability, football IQ, etc. Giving up a sixth isn't bad. Outside of Brown and Williams, the Steelers have been lucky to find a small handful of backup quality players in that round, which Gilbert should at least be able to offer some depth if nothing else. He still has excellent size and speed. While we haven't seen the coaching staff develop many good defensive backs, Gilbert is still a better prospect than the other options they had on the roster or were available to sign.

The collective IQ level around here drops significantly every time you post. Please stop and spare us a few brain cells.

This coming from the resident Lib weenie. Do you still support Hilary? Talk about lacking IQ, dear god.

POP, why are you acting like such an ***? Seriously, we gave up a 6TH ROUNDER in 2018 for a guy with a TON of upside. If it doesn't work, it was still worth the risk.

His departure means the Browns now have zero of the six players they drafted in the first round from 2011-14 on their roster.

What that tells me is the Browns are poor at developing players, even high 1st round picks. The Steelers recognize this. Gilbert just needs a change to a solid organization that can give him proper instruction. He's still young and can improve, and can maybe even live up to his 2014 draft expectations if coached properly.

The fact that he has "personal issues" has been brought out in the media. Add that to a culture of losing in Cleveland and the guy didn't stand a chance in The Factory of Sadness. I hope the culture change turns this guy around.

He has all the athletic ability to succeed but seems to lack desire. You would think that a player with his physical skills would be around the ball but he hasn't been. One interception and 39 tackles in 23 games, sure doesn't set the world on fire. If Ray Horton couldn't make something out of him I'm not sure Carnell lake can. This will be a fun project to watch.

This is the football forum if you hadn't noticed.

All I will say about this transaction is that if it was the Pats it would be considered brilliant. I know guys bust but a top ten pick must have some skill set. Give him as simple a job as you can and see if he can help.

Predicting that Gilbert gets the Lance Moore treatment and gets zero field action outside ST unit.

That says about all we need to know: "The fact that Gilbert was traded to a division rival suggests the Browns are hoping the Steelers put Gilbert on the field when they play Pittsburgh (twice) this year."

With the Browns history when it comes to football analysis and foreknowledge, I wouldn't be too concerned about what they might be "hoping" for actually coming true.

He was supposed and still can be a shutdown starter his career got off to a very rocky start as he was torched by us in that 38-35 win by both Wheaton @ brown, it looks he should of started his career in the slot b/c of where he was drafted that Pettine just threw him in to early and from how he played in 2 years in that regime they never tried to polish him up or correct his error, I hope Lake as of Tomorrow has extensive film sessions and if Burns has no set backs from the camp injury he @ Gilbert duke it out hard to who starts in the slot.

This could have a hell of a lot to do with his problems. I remember a QB that was drafted by the lions, a total monster in college, Chuck Long, if memory serves he played for Iowa, Heisman runner up I think, anyway first game they threw him in against the 86 bears defense. long story short they ate him up and he was never the same, when he came out of college he was projected to be an instant star. I don't think he lasted more than three or four years in the league.

Do we really have to bring up someones Politics in this forum? What does that have to do with football?

Hell, even I give Tibs karma in the Football Forum once in a while.

Fellas, my entire family is Clowns fans. I'm the only one with any sense. So I say this as a Steeler die hard.
Justin Gilbert is garbage. He was getting torched by Corey Coleman every day in camp this year before Coleman got injured.
He has maturity issues, and he has not adjusted to the NFL game where you need more than athletic ability to succeed.
Yes, he's AWESOME below the shoulders. But from the shoulders up he's lost on the field and a cancer in the locker room.
We wasted a draft pick, albeit a 6th in 2 years, on someone who was getting cut before the 53 deadline.
Hope and wish all you want for him to amount to something/turn it around/change a scenery/etc.
Just don't hold your breath nor poop in the other hand.
He'll go faster out of here than Boykin did.

Mainly a bunch of wet vaginas in this thread,....finally someone with some sense. This team is suppose to coach him up even though they have failed miserably at that for years?

Cleveland players are always lost on the field. You might be right, but just as likely not.

I think Gilbert is a new team environment could become an very good player for us. Cleveland is has been terrible the whole time Gilbert was there with them....no leadership from the top down and everything in disarray can wreck a young player and destroy his confidence. Surround him in a positive situation one where he can learn from veteran coaches like Carnell Lake and Gilbert could turn out to be a good player for us. If not we have a 6th round pick for him in 2018....I'm ok with that!

Let's hope he can turn it around! If not they'll send him packing!

I remember getting a CB last year who was cut by Buffalo. He starts for us now, and he was a 4th rounder!.

Let's see what Gilbert can do. We're tied to him for 2 years due to his contract, so hopefully there's enough clay here to mold into an athlete.

Pop, what happens in the Political forum, stays in the political forum. Everyone has the right to have opinions, no matter what they are. And that is why you are tolerated on the football side...

I think we can all agree that our veteran players and our coaches can get Gilbert on the right track. He was definitely a player the team coveted 2 years ago so hopefully they can knock his attitude out of him and tap into that potential. Winning helps heal a lot of things. He was a loser in Cleveland. He is now on a perpetual winning team with the best QB in football. If he has any thoughts on getting a ring in his career, the next few seasons are his best shot. GO, GO, GILBERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
