Camp news out of the gates...

Rogers should be ahead of him at this point, Ayers has only been in the offense a few weeks....as has been stated many times. The punt returns in GAMES will decide if Ayers has a chance or not....

Of course this has only been said about a thousand times

If we only keep 1 FB, we have a shot of keeping 6 WRs.

I have a feeling we open the season with five WR's. Bell's suspension likely means the last roster spot until he returns is a running back.

By the way, Rodgers is from Miami. I'm rooting for him.

OL VS DL/OLB's!

Quick notes:

Jarvis Jones was the only one on the team last year not to win a battle.

Rookie Javon Hargrave and 2nd year man Anthony Chickillo have the most " wins " for the defense.

All of the OL starters did well. Rookie Jerald Hawkins dominated. Pouncey not listed.

My point was we kept 2 FBs last year, even with Bell's 2wk suspension. If we just keep Nix, Johnson is gone, and his roster spot can go to an extra WR. This year, if the talent is there, I would keep 6WRs. It means deactivating Ayers or Rogers on game day, depending on who the returner will be.

I really don't like when "results" from these drills are reported. They can give you some hints as to what you can expect from a player, but too often people read way too much into them. Think back to Baron Batch blocking James Harrison once in backs on backers.

I don't see the need to keep more than 5 WRs. Ayers should slide onto the practice squad without a problem unless he just goes berserk in the preseason. We should be able to stash a couple quality WRs on the practice squad, no need to keep 6 on the active roster.

Given how light we are at tight end (in healthy bodies and guys with any NFL experience), I have to think David Johnson will make the final 53.

Interceptions:

L.J. Fort: 1
William Gay: 1
Tyler Matakevich: 1

My takeaways:

Brown is nearly uncoverable.

The Qb's have thrown it 339 times in nine practices, and only one DB has an interception ( Gay ). This is disturbing. Ben threw it 469 times and was picked off 16 times last season. While its much eaisler to complete passes in practice for sure, the DB's just aren't picking it off, and we have some shaky QB play behind Ben.

Eli Rodgers target to catch ratio is impressive, and he has scored 4 times. Eli Rogers: 18 catches-26 targets-4 TD's. 4TD's is second best on the team through 9 practices.

The Steelers are looking hard to find a 3rd Rb while Bell is out. Brandon Brown-Dukes has looked good, so I heard. He's a D 2 player who's quick and cuts well.

Actually, it's better than 20% for Ayers. Don't sell him short!

My man Rodgers is clearly the #5 WR on the team, with 3 times a number of catches and 2x the amount of scores in comparison to Ayers.

no one is "clearly" anything at this point except for Brown....

Rogers is ahead of Ayers...but he started out there so it is no big surprise

he has been getting 1st team reps since Wheaton has been taking it easy.....

Games start next week and we will see how they do in the return game and against a different set of DBs

I've read they've had Bust Burns covering him a lot, so this doesn't mean much...

My takeaway is that someone has too much time on their hands to compile meaningless training camp stats.

I'm not sure why there's any surprise with the low INT numbers. Our defensive backs aren't very good, there isn't the true ability to "pressure" a quarterback and the guys behind Ben are so inaccurate that half the time their incomplete passes aren't anywhere near the receiver let alone defensive back.

hope Hawkins is ok...

OMG, have you seen the OT from Boston? 69. He makes the rest of the lineman look like little kids, 6'-9"s.
