WTF?! Report: Senquez Golson To Undergo MRI

Has Golson returned?

Senquez Golson Says MRI Needed For “Soft Tissue” Injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers are back on the field to begin the second week of OTAs. Senquez Golson is out there with the group but is reportedly sitting out of practice today. Last week, Dale Lolley reported Golson was scheduled to undergo an MRI. Golson confirmed that to Adam Crowley today but noted it had nothing to do with last year’s shoulder injury that shelved him for his rookie season.

No word on the exact nature of the “soft tissue” injury Golson suffered. It’s good news that he doesn’t appear to have any lingering issue from his torn labrum and that he is back on the field today. But it’d be better news to see him get back involved in practice.

Whether his role is outside or in the slot, the Steelers will be counting on a significant impact from last year’s second round pick. Early reports had him getting snaps at left cornerback over Ross Cockrell. His hopeful return along with adding Artie Burns and Sean Davis were aggressive moves Pittsburgh has made to revamp their secondary, very similar to what the Steelers did with their offensive line earlier this decade.

Should Golson start outside, it makes sense that William Gay will slide inside in subpackage, with either Cockrell or Burns subbing in. Training camp will help tell us that story much better than OTAs. And of course, Golson has to play well himself to earn his keep. And that’ll start by getting back in practice. More missed time is only going to continue to be a source of frustration for fans and coaches.

Soft tissue? Where? Soft tissue is muscle, ligaments and tendons so this still is NOT good news. I hope they don't continue to keep the fans in the dark about injuries like they did last year.

I for one wouldn't mind seeing the guy in pads at some point

Your great ability is your availability.

Everything after that means nothing until you are "available".

Football is still a collision sport and I mostly think guys that are bigger and stronger hold up better to collisions that guys that are smaller and weaker.

According to an unnamed beat writer who works for a local, unnamed newspaper, it's a leg injury of some sort.

They haven't made it to the collision part this year, have they?

Did he make it to the contact part last year? I didn't think so.

An MRI on the leg can't be good. It will, at least, keep him out until camp. We may have a new china doll. Shazier is going to have stiff competition for the title this year.

The Rats tried that and had a week of OTAs taken away, fined Harbitch and the team. No pads til minicamp I do believe

That's what I thought you meant. You have to go back to college tape to see what this kid even looks like in pads and a helmet. Going back to that tape, you can see what the Steelers were so enamored with. I couldn't believe they drafted Golson in the 2nd round till I really started looking at his tape. His aggressiveness, plays on the ball, short area quickness, good hands et al. But damn, put it on the field already!!

Anyone know if he missed games due to injury his senior or junior years?

Golson, who played football and baseball at Mississippi, had a long history with shoulder problems in college.

“I kind of always had shoulder issues a little bit,” he said.

As a senior, the shoulder became more problematic and persisted a year ago at organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp with the Steelers. The decision was made before training camp that season-ending surgery was the only option.

Paper that has no name. They say that he's fine though

Sigh. History of shoulder problems? And in his first year, missed entire season from bum shoulder. Not liking the sound of this.

Was that Irwin M. Fletcher's report?
