After winning in a ring just the year before, the Steelers laid a turd, posting an 8-8 record.

Why?

Very simple.

Cowher knew he wasn't coming back, the team knew and the players knew, plus Super Bowl hang over - all leads to an underperforming team.

That team had no passion, no chemistry, no unity - I remember Willie Parker saying how the year before, they had a brotherhood and everyone had each other's back. He said 2006 had none of that.

And why are we talking about this 10 years later?

Please list source link to WP stating this, otherwise it's only a fleeting memory. One could argue, injuries, SOS, and just "bullseye" on back of World Champions could have had some something to do with it.

Pumper Of Patriots* can't resist any opportunity to backhand the Steelers and SN.

This jagoff doesn't understand that
8-8 and no ring
is far better than
18-1 and no ring.

How is this so? Who wants to lose more games? Are you on any prescription medication? Should you be?

What happened in 2006? The Carolina Hurricanes won Lord Stanley's cup. That is all.

Word. I was a season ticket holder and gave em up. Section 119 row C, seats 8 and 9. Knew damn well that it wouldn't ever be better than that.

Cause going undefeated and having the biggest let down sucks. 8-8 missed playoffs? At least your post season hopes wont be crushed. Only one team wins it all---sure success is measured by wins. Just a hard thing to explain

Wasn't that the summer Ben had is cycle accident?

2006? Pats lost to colts I believe. Is that what u are referring to?

Giants. Won every game except the Super Bowl.

Coach Cowhers wife was dieing of cancer. I think that was the biggest issue he faced and Ben had a motorcycle wreck and appendicitis. So maybe your analysis is a touch flawed.

Thought that was 2007. Sorry should have looked it up beforeposting

I only remember it clearly because me and the current Mrs. Burgundy had gone to Watertown, NY that weekend to see my daughter's concert at school (my kids lived with my ex at the time), left that morning figuring we'd be home in time for the game. Instead the NY Thruway was closed at Buffalo due to an impending blizzard, we tried a back way and found the blizzard ourselves, and ended up turning around and watching the game at the Red Roof Inn in Henrietta, NY. I have a 4x4 but the problem was that you couldn't see the friggen' road. Took another route straight south the next day all the way to Harrisburg to get around the blizzard and PA Turnpike home. Upstate NY had over 8 FEET of snow by the end of the week and Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel was camped out at a restaurant I used to go to all the time.

That was the year the piece of **** cheaters cheated their way to an unbeaten regular season failing to find a way to cheat enough in the post season in their attempt to gain yet another illegitimate title right?

Tom Coughlin was smart enough to change the Giants' play signals before the Super Bowl. Also David Tyree's helmet catch.

That catch was crazy. I thought the Giants D line was huge in that game too

Oh, so you are saying we can only talk of things that happened in the last year? Where does it say that?

Some of the most-interesting posts are about our history. And it's May.

I just never understood the "Cowher mailed it in" theory pertaining to that season.

If he had truly half assed it, that team would not have gone 6-2 after the 2-6 start. If the head coach was truly disinterested, that team probably would have totally collapsed after the terrible start.

Ben's health was the difference.

Sure why not. 2006 had no signifigance as far as I'm concerned. Cowhers last year as a head coach. But just as in anything else you move on. Its nice to reflect on would of, could of, should of---but in the pro sports world you gotta move on and build with the changing times

SEE comment on "POP's" quote......

Confluence...... Be careful on what you disclose as if your prescription is any good, POPs might be over to "get" it.....

I think what you maybe trying to say is......There comes a time in a child's growing up where they realize their heros aren't perfect. Take the Santa clause / Easter bunny / fairy good mother etc. etc.....when you find out these aren't real. In POP's case it was then that he found or realized that Marcia just wasn't real................LIKE in real honest, cheating, non-hero, etc... It was then that he reached out and "latched" onto the STEELERS, as if he has always been there. NOW with time, the "hurt" becomes less and less and they find a way to make themselves feel better by trying to under cut someone else. IS this more clear?????
...........COWHER did NOT quit on that team. AS said, a coach that starts out 2-6 there finishes 6-2 ISN"T a quitter. Exact opposite. Couple that with ailing wife and injured HOF QB, would be like Billicheat without his tape team. KAPISH...................?????
