Brandon Boykin??

I'd like to see him can come back but I can't blame him if he leaves. He was clearly better than the guys ahead of him but didn't play much. This is another failing of our coaching staff and it's pigheaded ways. Essentially what we have done with this guy is play him just enough to give other teams a look, but let him basically take a whole season to get completely healthy and rested so he can get a payday somewhere else. In my opinion it was a waste of time and money for us all the way around.

How?

Look, I got mad at Blake too, but Boykin was not put in the same situations. Therefore, IMO, a proper comparison cannot be made. He wasn't put in the same situations as Cockrell or Gay, either. When he was in there, he didn't do much more than chase receivers around after they caught the ball. The Steelers have enough of that. I hope they can get better talent to actually challenge the ball more. Bringing back Boykin would not get them any closer to that.

On this one, I think the coaches get the benefit of the doubt. I have a hard time believing in the NFL, where it is all about winning, nothing else, that you would not play a guy who could help you win.

Boykin did more than chase guys around after they caught the ball diver.

He played fairly solid coverage, allowed few catches, broke up a few and showed his ball skills the very first game he played by undercutting a route in the red zone and coming away with the pick. Rewatch the snaps he played on D and isolate to see what role he was playing. He was easily our 2nd best in technique and reading the QB.

I can't give the coaching staff a pass on this. They could of had ****/Boykin outside with Gay inside or Gay/**** outside with Boykin inside and either grouping would be much better than any that included Blake on the field.

I don't know what kept boykin OFF the field, but if possible, maybe sign him for depth if reasonably priced......... Insusrance if the draft pick needs a little "adjustment time".

Salute the nation

Blake in 16 games started had 11 PD and 2 int. Boykin with a fraction of the snap count had 5 PD, 1 int and a sack.

I don't know what games were people watching when they say there was no improvement with Boykin on the field over Blake and that he was only chasing players instead of disrupting plays

I hear ya

as I was watching the one were Blake set records for yards given up.

if we really want to talk about no improvement the conversation starts and ends with Blake.........

Advanced stat guys agree with the concept that boykin was much better than his time warrented... Blake led the league in yardage allowed and missed tackles... Boykin had great ratings for tackling and the team gave up fewer catches per play with him on the firld than any combination with him off the field

I thought the pick he had came of a tipped ball. I don't think he undercut anything. Maybe I'm wrong, but I could swear it was a tipped ball and he made kind of a diving pick. If not, I apologize in advance.

I agree Boykin was better than Blake, but that is like saying that fat girl over there is a few less pounds than the other one in the bar. They can do better than Boykin or Blake. They have to if they want to go where they think they can go.

I found the highlight. Boykin didn't undercut anything, Gay did, tipped the ball and Boykin made a nice diving pick.

I don't know about all those combos. It just is fun to say Gay/****/Boykin, huh?:tennis:

Another thing about Boykin. He is either going to have to sign with a team that has a black head coach or a well established, almost above reproach white one. If you were a young white coach trying to build something, would you take a chance on an average player who, at the very least, questioned a prior coaches dealings with black players? Words have consequences. and before anyone says why bring race into this, I didn't. Brandon Boykin did. And I bet that is a factor as to why he isn't signed.

It was a tipped pass. And like I said in another thread it was Boykin who gave up the big 34 yard gain against the Broncos on that final TD drive. Also I guess I'm the only one who finds it funny Blake signed a contract before Boykin. That being said Boykin is a decent CB better used inside.

it was said Boykin was not the brightest guy and our playbook was quite complex and he had a real hard time adapting vs the eagels playbook.
Since there is not much value for him if we dont go go S or CB rnd 1 re sign him to compete with Golsen.
