NFC championship game

While the media wants a storybook finish for Peyton's career---he'll be facing the #2 defense in the Superbowl. Say it again, the #2 defense. I slightly agree that Cam has less to throw to on offense BUT anyone that thinks that Cam is a ONE-READ QB is insane.

As OFTB stated, there were two different performances yesterday - Carolina, IMO, showed that they don't care who's on the field - what can you do to beat our offense, special teams and defense??? From now on, I'm going record my predictions - I told my wife and friends yesterday, Carolina will win by NO LESS THAN three scores.

My pre-SB prediction:

Denver 18
Carolina 38

GO CAM!!!! This game had me feeling bad for Arizona....almost. I feel bad for Fitzgerald....but Palmer is just NOT a good QB. At all.

My son and I were discussing this yesterday......Palmer is, kindly, an "adequate" QB. He needs a team with tons of talent on both sides of the ball to carry him and his mistakes. But he won't carry a team. Think Romo. BA said before the divisional game that CP is the best qb in the nfl....not one of the best, the best. I get you stand behind your guy but that's delusional.

1.) Cam is not a one read QB. Dont even know why you think this.

2.) Carolina's offense just throttled a great Cardinal defense and a pretty good Seattle defense.

Denver has a dope defense, absolutely. But lets see how they fare against a QB who isnt a statue in the pocket.

In not sure where you get it that Cam is running a complex offense. Their run game is so strong that he is often throwing against just 3 in coverage and many teams are afraid to blitz him so he usually has all day to throw.

His decision making is not fast. Denver will speed up that clock.

See this is what I dont understand. How is his decision making any slower than Ben's? Youre making it sound like he is only throwing to wide open receivers and that's just not the case:

He looks off the safety and throws a perfect pass that is 'un-interceptable', where only his rcv'er can go up and get it. Against the LOB, mind you.

Also- teams dont blitz Carolina effectively because:

A.) Not that simple blitzing a QB that is mobile
B.) Although they cant catch, Carolina's has track stars at WRs. Cam Newton also has a cannon for an arm. So blitzing and leaving your CB's with single coverage is probably not the be the best way to go.

Carolina playing fast and loose. They are a big tall fast offense all around with a good O-line and running game - I don't think Peyton can outscore them..

Denver's defense did not exactly look like a no-brainer, Super Bowl championship unit either time that we played them. I just happen to think that they match up very well against the Patriots offense, especially this Patriots offense that had no running game and no downfield passing game.

I think the Panthers present a far different challenge, and I think they will beat the Broncos pretty handily.

Palmer is a typical bungles QB. Gets the job done some of the time, but can't get over the hump. When his "D" gives him turn overs and holds opposition to minimal gains, he can generate winning. Put a little of the weight on his shoulders and WhoaLa...... bungle juice.

Salute the nation

Gotta love Tape. Still sticking to his 2011 evaluation that Cam is too dumb and lazy to become a legit NFL QB.

I didn't see Tape's evaluation, but the "slow to read/react" part was pretty generally accepted as a valid knock ... coming out of college. Cam has progressed as a QB in each year that he's been in the league. It amazes me that some folks still hang onto that draft evaluation stuff and don't acknowledge growth. Of course, some of those same people will still tell you that Luck is one of the best QBs in the NFL despite evidence of his actual regression as a QB.

It is what it is I guess. But, here's my belief ... If the Denver defense isn't able to get to Cam Newton and bring him down, it's going to be a looooong day for them because Cam is able and willing to beat them as much with his arm as his feet. This year he's added a new dimension and he's shown the ability to beat you with his mind.

Carolina will win this game. Cam Newton will add the SB MVP trophy to his league MVP trophy.

Sad too. He USED to be a really good talent evaluator. . His scouting circa 2000 was some of the best on the internets.

I guess he got old...

No doubt that when Cam entered the league he was extremely raw and unpolished as a pocket passer. He had one season of major college experience and it was in Auburn's read-option system...the same one that's so rudimentary in terms of the passing game that we all knew Sammie Coates required a redshirt season as a rookie. All that said, I don't know how you can watch him right now and not see that he is an upper echelon NFL QB (unless you have an axe to grind about how athletic, spread QBs can never succeed in the NFL). I don't know where to rank him (and I hate rankings period), but look at what he has done without elite talent at the WR position...

It's nice to have a Brady-;less SB.

It has been brought to my attention by the ladies in my circle that Cam is easy on the eyes. So while I'm rooting for him to win (we now have a Black QB in the SB 4 years running after only having 3 total prior to Kaepernick) I am bracing myself for the onslaught of silliness from female fans. Not accusing you, of course, but many female fans seem to think football is a beauty contest.

Cam IS hot....no question. However, he is also talented. So while I think he is attractive, I know there is more to him than a great set of abs and perfect teeth.

One of the reasons I knew Cam would be good eventually, and incidentally still think RG3 could be great, is that I watched them play quite a bit in college. Both of them could throw accurately into tight windows even then. Both could anticipate coverage, and throw to a spot on the field. Once Ben mastered that skill he basically became unstoppable when he plays smart.

When Kelvin Benjamin comes back next year, that team will be a juggernaut. Everyone in the league will be after them. And like Tom, Cam plays in a GARBAGE division. Brees is old, Ryan is overrated. So until or unless Winston becomes a star, expect the Panthers to be in the playoffs for the foreseeable future.

Two things could derail;

1) Cam does indeed take to many hard shots. He's gotta get like Wilson, and start protecting his body after he passes the sticks.

2) Free agency. Josh Norman and Luke K (not gonna try to spell it) are both beasts and will command enormous cap resources in the future.

Edit- My mistake... I keep forgetting that we have one or two female posters.

Kuechly already signed a new deal

Panthers did show some classless action at end of game. I live in Raleigh and in eight years I have seen maybe ten jersey's for the Panthers, that is two hours away. Get the picture of what you see two hours from Pittsburgh, Pirates, Pens and Steelers wear everywhere. Every Grandmother in Giant Eagle has a Steelers shirt of some kind. NC will jump on the bandwagon now.

They haven't done anything yet. 20 years, and this is their 1st real franchise QB, and 2nd SB appearance. Winning builds a fan base. Stars build a fan base.

What did they do at the end of the game that was classless?

Every fan base has ********. I went to the Panthers-Steelers game last year. On the walk from parking to stadium, people were yelling obscenities through parking lot fences at Steeler fans. Even some young prick made comments to me at the gate. People get brave when they have the numbers. Of course they were quiet on the walk back after the ***-kicking received.

Either way, I'll still be happy for the good fans I know around here.

How about going for two when the game was way over and sacking Palmer and they get up with puffing chest and slamming legs down with all the rain dancing, no need where the game was. Then they showed some class players for the Panthers shaking their heads. Was no need for the excess when game had been over , just waiting till time was gone. I was at the Steelers Panthers game as well and a women in front of us just kept slamming her seat spilling our drinks and told us she paid for this seat and could do as she pleased, was a different voice after the game.

**** that. Rub it in.

If you don't want Cam to dance, don't let him in the end zone.

If you don't want to get Rain Danced after a sack, throw the ball sooner.

I love the way Carolina and Seattle get in teams heads with their defense. The Big Nasty D used to do this all the time. Harrison, Porter, and Big Snack were not exactly quiet, humble monks on the field.

My problem with Cam is that he had the tendencies of a whiner. In his second season he did quite a bit of bitching when things weren't going all that well. If he's matured since then, that's good. But generally what I see with these guys that do a lot of this "look at me" stuff is that they are the first to whine and complain and point fingers when things aren't going perfect. I'll wait to see how he is if they struggle in the SB, or if they win it and then next season when everyone is gunning for them, let's see how he is then. That'll tell me a bunch about what kind of player and man he is.
