The plan for 2016-2017

Need to decide if we think Jesse James is our next TE, not sure how much more Heath has.

I definitely think the potential is there. But I can't lie, when someone grabbed OJ Howard in the draft game thread, it made me giddy thinking about an explosive TE like that out there with AB, Bryant, Coates, etc. Whew unstoppable

James seems to have the goods in terms of running routes and catching the ball without breaking stride.

Is he explosive enough to compensate for his lack of blocking ability, like a Jimmy Graham? That's the question.

He definitely has a future with the Steelers, but I'm not yet convinced it will be as the #1 TE.

The defense improved on its own this year. I believe another year will benefit them. I'd like to add more talent at safety and CB. I bring in a FA Safety to take Will Allen's spot, and Blake needs to be replaced.

My commitment though, is going to be on offense. We need another TE for the future. Heath may be in his last year next year, so I want 2 TEs ready to go for 2017. Jessie James I believe is a keeper moving forward.

If a stud lineman is there at LG, I take him in the first. That's our weekness on the line. Gilbert & Pouncey will return. Villa is my LT, it make financial sense. I sign Beechum to a backup contract, and see if he heals from his injury. DeCastro is a priority.

Here's what I would do, that no one else is thinking of. Odel Beckum may be done in NY. The previous coach did not get along with him, and they promoted from within, so I would think they still are iffy on him continuing as a Giant next year. I make an offer. 3rd or 4th round pick for him. He's in his last year, and will be finishing up his rookie contract. Give Ben a year to throw to AB and Beckum, and we may have a record setting year for our QB, paired with Bell and Williams (who is signed for next year). Bryant, Wheaton, Coats, and DHB rounding out the roster (though I am set up to let Bryant walk due to his off field issues).

With what I saw in Coates, and Wheaton's inability on special teams, wouldn't be upset trying to move Wheaton and keeping DHB for special teams and the 4th WR.

My thoughts exactly. I have nothing against Wheaton, but I'm not sold on him at all. He seems just good enough, but not convinced he'll be anything more than a C+/B- type reciever.

I think in some ways you have to be careful not having too much talent. I know that sounds crazy, but what I mean is you have to have guys willing to play second fiddle, to realize there is only one football. I like the idea of a good, young, explosive TE, though. That is the one thing they lack right now. Another reason I would be careful on offense is that you can't give coaches too much or they are liable to be all over the place and never figure out quite what works best.

I like the idea of the LG as well. Having two guards that can move would be great for the running game. I remember wanting that kid Cooper a couple of years ago, but I am not sure how well he is panning out now. I know he struggled early.

I do think they have to make a commitment, either through FA or the draft, to improve the secondary. They just can't keep hoping on it, can they?

Dude, despite the personality issues, there is absolutely no way the Giants trade Beckham for anything less than a 1st, and it would probably have to be a top 10 pick for them to even consider it.

I agree regarding his availability. But there are also probably 30 other teams that wish Le'Veon Bell could be their starting RB who would pick up the slack if we made him a low ball offer

Ya, I expect. Rock <---> Hard place. At the very least I'd see if they can get any interest in a Pouncey trade. Ideally they could get something out of him and get that contract out of the way. Not likely though, as I understand it, the extension is too new and too big.

Regarding drafting for offense. - I agree that the issue there is the Steelers already have too much talent, particularly in the receiving corps. What they need now is more discipline in the younger guys. Brown is amazing, but what is particularly great about him is his exceptional routes and hands. Martavis is fast and lanky and explosive, yes, but he's often sloppy. Wheaton as we saw last night can easily lose focus. What you need is for the 2nd and 3rd string guys to be ready (desperate really) to step into the role of a 1st string / marquee receiver position.

Adding additional star receivers along with Bell (assuming God willing he can survive another 2 Bengal games) is only going to thin the number of touches everyone has. That "can" be good if Ben is efficient enough to get the ball to everyone and keep them involved and focused. But what we've basically seen in the past is Ben feeding Brown to the exclusion of everyone else. Whether that's because the others are simply so much worse than Brown or Ben just loves him some Antonio, I don't know but how's it going to work bringing in another marquee guy that Ben ignores while he throws to Brown for 16 catches a game?

No, better to work with the ridiculously good talent we have and get THEM more touches while trying to keep Bell on his feet by sharing some carries with Williams than bringing in outsiders.

The defense needs to continue improving. The offense is still inconsistent, largely because of Ben's love affair with Antonio. (again, Wig's opinion, worth even less on the internet.) That means the defense MUST get better. The team needs to see a much more dominant performance from the defensive unit more regularly next year if they hope to be competitive.

OK, I keep reading or hearing people questioning whether Boswell or Suisham should be the kicker next year. To that, I say "Are you kidding me?" It's a no brainer, goodbye Suisham!

Let them go at it in camp and wait for a team that needs us to trade ole Suishi to them for sumpin. he not bad, jus not spectacular.

We're going to hafta make some decisions on some people next year for shur. Guys like Beachum and Bell are due some money, DeCastro will get his and then we will have to figure out who out of the Cortez Allen, Foster, Adams, Blake and Cam Thomas crowd to hang on to. 20 free agents, we can't afford to keep them all.

The Giants have in no way or form soured on OBJ

Sushi is History. How they go about that is the only question.

O-Line played well enough. Decent pass protection good run blocking and not a ton of penalties.

Defense really came back from the dead. Draft help should/could put them back on top.

Extend AB while Business is Boomin.

Off Season sucks but next season has a certain feel to it with a hint of promise.

Moss was coming off a terrible season in Oakland in which it looked like he might have been washed up, and the Raiders still got a 4th for him.

Beckham might be the best receiver in the league right now. There won't be any question about it once AB starts to slow down in a few years.

I would test the waters with Pouncey on a trade with a team like Seattle or Minnesota, teams that are still more of a run first team, maybe get rid of his cap hit, although it would be nice to have a center that can pull and move like Dawson could. First off, re-sign Gay. He's our best DB by far.

I believe a good kick return man can also be found in free agency.

Draft. CB, OLB, and S needs. I'd love a tall receiving TE that's tough to match up with as well. If a very good punter is there, I'm not opposed to drafting him in round 5 or 7 as Berry rates poorly. Berry is 2nd to last in punting average and seems to shrink when we need him the most.

Why would he take a cut in 2016 if he's in the last year of his contract? Cutting him would be far worse for the Steelers as far as TE production goes. The only way I would think to reduce his hit is to extend and I don't think the Steelers would be willing to add more years.

Wouldn't be Minnesota, or would it? They didn't struggle with run blocking, it was pass protection. All five on the line started every game this season. That said, Center John Sullivan missed the season with back surgery, and is a huge question. Free Agents are Steve Wisniewski and Ben Jones, I'll pass on them. Berger who replaced Sullivan could hold down the fort for another year but Pouncey might be an idea here.

I don't think Beechem will sign that type of contract nor do I see the Giants trading a w/r of that talent and skill for a third or fourth rounder if at all...I also rather keep Bryant unless he really messes up again...There is no way to be able to keep everybody happy moneywise and catches wise...I think Bryant fits the Steelers better on the field and the locker room and he is set on the right path...
