Help me out on this, everyone, even though I'm feeling pretty good this morning after watching last night's GOP debate.
It feels like it's over for Trump. Not in a humiliating, cinematic, people-throwing-tomatoes kind of way. It's more of a quiet, awkward, "Oh, this was just a lark for him" kind of feeling, especially from the audience at the debate. The coyote howls of approval and the boos of disapproval began colliding with each other in such a queasy mash-up that, in the end, it felt like the audience wordlessly decided they need to move on. Like that moment, when the fifth or sixth or whatever Death Wish movie came out, and even the most die-hard, single digit IQ fans were left muttering, "This is just the same ******* bullshit."
Trump will plummet in the polls now. These next few weeks will be like a sad deflating of an already cheap balloon. And he'll suddenly act like his business empire means more to him, and he'll clomp away. And everyone will shrug their shoulders and chuckle at how ha ha isn't it funny we almost made that guy president. Yeah. Huh. Whatever.
The GOP will nominate Bush and blandly lose in November and they'll try to figure out someone to put up in 2020.
But the Trump circus is over. People aren't even going to watch the workers roll up the tent.
Now I just hope Bernie gets nominated and wins.
