Why I think Tomlin needs to go

If by being covered, you mean 8 yard deep to create an uncontested catch with a 1 on 1 situation giving Williams the ability to make a play, then I don't agree with your definition of coverage.

The Steelers and ever single team in the NFL play the RB the same way. Which is why Timmons racks up a ton of tackles down the field. Watch where Timmons plays. They are playing man in that situation so you tell me who his man was. He allowed the other players to go past. He comes up when the RB comes across. It's his man. You can argue with the coverage but he is covering his man the same way Shazier, Timmons, and all LBs cover their men.

I agree with 90% of what I read here. Tomlin, Ben, the whole team take blame for their poor performances. Regarding our struggles, it is still a matter of balanced talent-IMO. However, for those who feel coaching is the problem, one can't have it both ways: if "even good players need coaching" then we must give Tomlin credit for the coaching of "Cower's players" going to TWO Super Bowls. So if he fails to coach sometimes, then he has also succeeded at other times.
Regarding talent, they've simply not done the right things regarding defensive talent-even though I feel they've not just ignored it. Like most posters, I'm very tired of the overall result which is mediocrity. I'm not defending Tomlin, but I'm skeptical that there is a person available who would be a huge upgrade as our coach.

Hey, I've always said that I give mike credit for keeping the "ship afloat" long enough with our team from the previous era, to go to 2 SB's and win one of them. Kudos to him for that. That being said, we havent wont a playoff game since 2011, unacceptable. This is a results-oriented business, and this team's results simply arent good enough. ****, they're not good enough for a team like the bears, let alone the Steelers

Which is the definition of taking your checkdown I will take that all day over forcing the ball over the middle. Are you kidding me.

.. Thanks for responding to what I said. Of course the film will show Ben ******* up, because he ****** up a ton yesterday. We all saw it. Now my question is - why did it continue to happen over and over again? The same mistakes? If coaches can't save players from themselves, especially when it's the opposing team's scheme that is throwing them off, why do we even have them?

So you honestly think his coaches in 12 years haven't told this guy to take what the defense gives you sometimes. Save them from himself like what sit him...not.going to happen nor should it

Actually, with this team, and that game yesterday, I doubt Tomlin told Ben to take what the defense gave him. All we ever hear from Tomlin is how we are going to play our game regardless of the opponent, we just need to execute. Even at the sideline interview going into halftime, he said we just needed to play better. He is famous for stubbornly sticking to plans even if the other team's plan is set up perfectly to take his away. He always just thinks we need to "execute better".

And late in the 4th, Ben actually did start taking the check downs. And we moved the ball as a result. Did he just decide that he would do that? I would be willing to bet that it was an adjustment made by the sideline in coordination with Ben, not just Ben making better decisions. It's hard for me to believe that he would just randomly decide to start doing it on his own after 3 1/2 quarters of trying to go deep.

Either way, you're taking the "powerless coach" stance rather than the "stupid coach" stance and I find neither one to be better than the other.

On December 28, 2025 Coach Shades will still be the head coach of this football team.

I put this on the players. period.
prior to the game, they showed AB walking in from the team bus. He looked as if he had just heard a joke from Dave Chappelle. Then when he saw the camera on him, he got stoic.

the players may have practiced well, felt good and confident going into the game, but sure as **** didnt take the Rats serious.

So who has the responsibility to ensure that the players take their opponents seriously?

Um, no. The leader of the team, the head coach, bears that responsibility.

"Chuck always said that if he has to waste time or spend time motivating players, he's going to get rid of those kind of people," Hall of Fame linebacker Jack Ham said.

Chuck coached in a different era. In his first year, the average player salary was $25,000. Today it's $2 million. Back then, guys were motivated to simply get food put on the table.

Or maybe Tomlin should "get rid of" Antonio Brown, so he won't have to waste time motivating him.

Again, we are an arrogant , soft and stupid team that takes its personna directly from its inept head coach. Losing year after year multiple times to the dregs of the NFL is the norm under the overrated head coach who in reality is just a guy. We will continue this lazy trend as long as he is the head coach and we have wasted Ben's prime under the helm of this knucklehead.

LOL, aren't you out of screen names yet?

There is better. But if these players don't know what is at stake...

It should not take a coach to remind them of it.

I often question if players really care if they win or lose. They get paid millions to play a game. The rest is just entertainment at this point. I think us fans put more emotional investment into the teams than the players. They know whats at stake from a football standpoint. From a job perspective these guys probably want a vacation

We have seen all that Tomlin can do. Next year and the years to come will be the same as what we have seen for the past 4 years. The only way to change course is change head coach. New hc would add renewed life and a new sense of urgency to the coaching staff and players.

“We're capable of beating anyone, but we're also capable of losing to anyone,”, and he has no ******* idea why.

I don't buy that. At the end of the day, whether you are making 25,000 or 2 million, you still need to go out there and bang heads. I just don't think anyone can truly motivate you to do that. You have to motivate yourself to do that.

If it is all about money, what motivates a soldier, for example, who is making peanuts, to go out there under fire and do something? That has to be inside.

Before you get all worked up, this is not some defense of Tomlin. Fire the guy for all I care. But for reasons like poor clock management, or stupid "gut" decisions or whatever. But for lack of motivating guys who should be motivated on their own? No.

You mean like Bellicheat blowing the OT coin toss.....

After the Jets win on Sunday, it will be 5 years without a playoff win. You have to go back to pre 1972 to find a drought that long.

I just think all the other coaches are conspiring to try and beat Tomlin and make him look bad.

Yeah, because players these days don't need to keep their jobs to make money..

Besides, they didn't get paid by their performance in that particular game so I don't understand the logic of being motivated for a game by needing to make money, the money was guaranteed regardless of their performance.

We're talking about PROFESSIONAL athletes not high school kids.

Motivating players, and keeping a team focused and grounded are two different things. Tomlin has trouble keeping the team focused and grounded vs ****** teams, that is pretty obvious.

So after the 94 title game you know the one we made a video before the game you were done with Cowher too huh. The 01 title game. What about the 98 thru 00 when we were all in denial about how good we were and considered all those losses to be against inferior teams. Was it obvious then??
