Jarvis Jones- One sack, one forced fumble

I liked what I saw, looked solid all around tonight. Played the run well, as well.

I just mentioned this in the defense appreciation thread. I think it was a sollid effort, Rivers was getting rid of it pretty quickly on most plays. Hopefully Jarvis can build on this.

Jarvis was bull rushing the OT into the back field all night. Great effor..

Did I hear that their OT is a rookie?

JJ grew up 2nite and played lights out!!! Our defense is playing above and beyond what I expected after their pre-season appearance.....

Both the LT and LG of the Chargers are hurt. Jarvis's sack came on a play where the other rushers forced Rivers to step up and walk into Jarvis's grasp. The fumble was a legitimately good play, but I'm not going to **** bricks of excitement and positivity because he played alright against an OL reminiscent of ours in '08.

I think he faced a step down in talent due to injuries

but I will give him his due

hopefully a little success will motivate him moving forward

To be fair, his sack was a very strong play. The lineman was engaged, JJ walks him back and reaches around him to grab and pull down Rivers. His off season strength training is starting to pay off.

I liked his motor last night. I still don't see him flash athletically. At this point, best case for him is to become a Jason Worilds type of player.

Jarvis has potential to be good. He's too inconsistent at the NFL level

Jarvis failed during pregame.
When he saw that the STARTING LT and LG were not playing, he should have immediately ran to Tombert and requested PTO.

Nothing he could have done last nite, despite playing very well, would have counted in the eyes of the Arm Chair OLB Elite Club of SN.

Stupid, stupid Jarvis.

As long as he can face college level talent, he will be fine.

yeah, it's a good thing all our other OLB's dominated the SD practice squad and racked up sacks left and right... oh wait, you mean Bud Dupree and Jarvis Jones were the only ones with sacks last night? Harrison didn't get one, Moats didn't get one, Heyward didn't get one, our sack leader Tuitt didn't get one...So what is the excuse for the rest of the team, or do you only have to make excuses when Jarvis plays well? I've said it before, when Jarvis becomes a liability, then you have some room to complain, so far he's been solid against the run, he gets pressure on the QB, has shown strength in bull rushing, and even shown a nice swim move. He has improved, whether you want to see it or not.

Our OLBs are bad BUT that does not make Jarvis good. Who said that the rest are good? Not me.

I hate Jarvis Jones. Given time I may hate Dupree too but I'll give him a year. I am an equal opportunity hater.

Didn't Jarvis' pressure lead to the under thrown ball on 3rd and long to Gates?

That was Heyward, drove the center right into Rivers lap. Jones forced an errant throw early in the game when he bull rushed the LT, Rivers stepped up and Jones hit him in the legs as he was throwing the ball.

Then I'm remembering the pressure where Jarvis did push the defender into Rivers, but he still completed the pass.

Could be, he bull rushed the OT several times into Rivers, but the TE was open all night over the short middle of the field...that's where Shazier coming back will be the biggest impact.

Solid game for much maligned 1st round pick.

Thoughts?

Jarvis' performance was above the line, if you will, he turned over some stones in practice this week, minimized mistakes, maximized his opportunities in situational football, and with good play above the neck he made some splash plays, obviously.

He earned a game ball, there should be no criticism of that. Lets hope he keeps it up and stays healthy.
