Kicking Situation

Just saw this on NFL.com.
NFL Media's James Palmer reports the Steelers will try out free agent Chris Boswell, who was with the New York Giants in training camp

Steelers are also bringing in Chris Boswell from Rice tomorrow for a tryout. My friend who is a die hard Giants fan said he wished he made the team. Very accurate strong leg. Looks effortless kicking FGs from 50yds....right down the middle and booms kickoffs outta the endzone.

Hopefully this guy is our next FG kicker. Monster leg and very accurate.

After reading that I will take Boswell

Why the **** is this scrub still on the team? I checked NFL.com constantly all day so I could get a pick me up when I saw "Break News: Scobee released from Steelers at 12:01am Friday morning". And yet.. here we are.

So depressing.

I'd be remiss if I didn't share Snoop Dogg's deeply personal message to Josh Scobee in this thread. Warning: Strong 18+ language

ps - are Snoop's eyeballs ready to pop out? Damn, that's gotta be some strong weed...

When he whiffed on that last one and was heading to the sideline I would have told him right then to go clean out your locker. Your services are no longer required.

Steelers Schedule Kai Forbath For A Tryout

Kai Forbath?

Empty out the kicker clown car, bring em all down!

Why hasn't he been signed by any team yet??? Just asking...

Because kickers are like "good luck penny", Our team was to lazy to pick one up. I think teams don't spend any amount of time on researching kickers. They just bring them in, make a distance judgement, then look at how long they been in the league. VER seldom does a true rookie get a shot. Scoobee turned out to be a bad pick up. He had a fair pedigree, but I don't think the effort was put in to truely determine his performance standard of current. He was signed, mostlu due to his past efforts. Obviously, his physic was questionable, seeing how much his miss(s) afected his demeanor. The good kickers, have very short memories, Gary Anderson comes to mind. His physic didn't seem to be effected upon misses.

Salute the nation

I did some checking on Scobee who had something like a 76% accuracy rate between 40 and 50 yards last year for the Jags. This when most NFL kickers are in the high 80's. The Jags were about to release him yet we traded our 6'th pick in the 2016 draft for him. Even if he didn't clear waivers, Henry was available and even the kid from Rice. My question is why would we make a trade for a guy who had a bad season last year and who has clearly lost it? Another in a long line of poor personnel decisions by Tomlin who is simply killing this team.

Always go for 2. If inside the 40 go for it on on 4th and short, inside the 35 go for it period. Only let scobee attmrpt field goals inside the 15 yard line.

I wonder what Colbert does all day in his office. Obviously nothing since Tomlin makes all the decisions.

Ummmm ... doesn't a trade like that usually start with the GM? If not, what exactly DOES Colbert DO?

Randy Bullock also being brought in for a try out.

Wonder how many of the Scobee haters were constantly bitching about Suisham's inability to kick off out of the end zone?

thier try outs better be heinz field not at team headquarters.

Why cut your KR, who's only had the opportunity to return, ah, 2 kicks? If that - and the one he returned last night was returned for 30 yards.

I'd suggest cutting either a FB or DL instead - and, YES, bring in Forbath NOW!!!

Wow. 2 kicks returned in 4 games? And one was for a whole 30 yards? What a valuable asset!

Scobee got a touchback practically every time. That is much more important in my opinion.

He squeaked his "good" kicks through JUST inside the uprights, then missed TWO within a minute thirty of each other, and you suddenly think he'll figure out an even longer kick?

Yes.

And, if Tomlin the Wizard would have just punted the Ravens deep on the first OT possession, Scobee's next attempt wouldn't have been from 50+, as the Steelers field position would have been much, much better. 19 yards closer, at the very least.

Would you have allowed the guy to kick a 32-yarder?

I agree. My buddies a Redskins fan and said Forbath is terrible at kickoffs, worse than Suisham.

That's why I suggested Forbath for field goals and keeping Scobee for kickoffs.

Hopefully the new guy works out. I did, however, read that only 2 of his 10 preseason kickoffs for Houston in 2014 were touchbacks. Not good.
