Benton Signs Extension

Khan has done some good things but there are a few head scratchers in there. He's a mixed bag for me at this point.

I don't mind the Steelers actually paying guys, they are just paying the wrong guys. The young backups with great potential. (Herbig, Washington and Benton) and the old never were greats. DK and Pittman.

I think this year he will be playing where he should and will shine. No more square peg round hole.

Bingo, we’ve got a winner! The great former coach known as Tomlin forced this guy out of position which he was known to do with others.
This defensive staff and McCarthy will not stick him at NT which was stupid by Tomlin.
They have a natural NT in Ya Ya Black.

Hopefully Benton will perform better under the new DC. They obviously have a lot of confidence in his potential given the size of this contract.

I don't see the Steelers cutting Ramsey this year. His cap number is under $20 million (19.5), and he is still a valuable interchangeable asset in this secondary. They can choose to move on in 2027 with zero dead money and full cap savings if he underperforms this season.
 
Porter's price tag continues to go up as Witherspoon just signed a contract averaging $33 million per year. $30 million is definitely the starting point of that negotiation now.

I think that is a top shelf deal and Joey should get below that. Was thinking 30 for awhile.. still think that is a good range for JPJ..

Add in the body-mass he went through both gaining and losing through out his career.

Lawrence Timmons got caught in that body weight wash as well…………..

Agreed. Hes certainly not a 1 tech but maybe him and Harmon are the 3, 5 s when Heyward is finally done.

I'd get it done. Heyward and Ramsey will be off the books soon enough and we'll see what happens with Watt over the next couple of seasons. That would have the next generation defensive core locked up for hopefully a young QB.

Why? Weatherspoon is the top of the market, jpj is not there yet
 
Steelers are not paying a QB so they have time to sign these defensive players. Offense is still cheap.

Benton was miscast just like Hargrave was. I think this new staff will use him more to his strengths.

The Witherspoon contract may be what Porter was waiting for. That's the ceiling now. Steelers will likely offer a bit under that.

Some on here believe Porter would bring only a 2nd. And is only worth about $22 mill a season on a new deal. The NFL might see things differently though.

Wasn’t monitoring their possibilities. Each had playing time possibly factoring in.

With Porter being in the top tier at his position that triggered my curiosity.
