Myles Garrett traded to the Rams?!?!

And tge risk for the Rams is pretty big too.. non contention Browns spent years just trying to let Garrett stat up because what else was gonna get butts in seats there? ... Garrett has been a super entitled abd immature player thus far... a system change that doesnt center around him may not be great... think AB after he left here..

For some of the older fans here, a bit of George Allen - and it's working. Helps to have a coach like McVay running the offense. Rams under McVay, 92-57, 10-6 in playoffs, 2 SB appearances, 1 SB title.
Pffft... has he ever had a losing season???

Maybe, but how many QB1's have they drafted in the last 20 years?
Five. But, they started 42 QB's since they re-entered the league in 1999.

1. Tim Couch
2. Brady Quinn
3. Brandon Weeden
4. Johnny Manziel
5. Baker Mayfield

The Steelers have drafted 2 and started 17 during the same time period.

Cleveland IS THE factory of sadness.

Since '99, 1st round QBs for the Clowns :
1) Couch
2) Quinn
3) Manziel
4) Mayfield
Your point is well noted. ;)

But outside looking in, seems like correct business move for Clowns.
Garrett will be 31 midway through this upcoming season.
Verse is a full 5 years younger, and the Browns get 1 day one pick and 2 day two picks.

I love TJ and would love nothing more than to see him win a SB wearing black n gold.
But living here in reality and the business of football and trying to get number 7?
Knowing what I know as I sit here and type this?
I couldn't pull the trigger fast enough if Rams offered exact same package for TJ.

This makes the Rams pick of Ty Simpson even dumber. They make this aggressive move but then they wasted this year's #1 on a guy they don't plan on playing for 3 years.

Trade looks good on paper for the browns but in real life, they downgraded at DE. Verse is good but he's not a potential game wrecker like Garrett. This trade only works if the Browns are able to get their QB next year.
For their careers, Garrett will go down as the better player. No argument here.
But from week one of the upcoming season going forward, Verse is going to play more games and better stats than Garrett.
Rams get instant payoff, Browns attempt to build for the future.......again.

Garrett wanted out for so long. They had to know that was a potential headache if it wasn’t already.

But yeah I wouldn’t be shocked if it played out very similar to what you are saying.
Yeah, I could never figure out why they didn't do this instead of resigning him this last year.

Forgot about Weeden.
Thanks, BC!

The Browns traded Garrett now because of their cap situation next year... the Deshawn Watson money they kept pushing into the future hits next year... if they dont extend him, the dead money cap hit is 86 million that hits all in one year.

They will play up the return, which was good, bit the Rams are now SB favorites.. so they are probably going to be getting a 28-32 spot pick in 27.

They got market value.. they arent competing in the next few years and they know it.. and there is no way to know how Garrett will fit in a new defensive scheme.
He is at peak value right now...

I mean everyone acts like this was a surprise... and it shouldnt have been at all... he was going to be a trade deadline move at worse this year.. they just cant afford him next season

Great post madinsomniac.!!!

I didn’t think about the “happy ending” effect.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Anybody who thinks dealing Garrett for Verse and draft picks makes a team better is wrong. Verse is good, maybe an 8 sack guy. He is basically Alex Highsmith, a 3rd rounder.

Meanwhile, you lose a guy who can demolish an offense. Then you draft three players, hoping - praying - they are as good as the guy you traded. But they won't be. I can all but guarantee that the three players they draft will combine for zero NFL defensive player of the year awards, zero MVP awards, almost certainly zero MVP votes, and probably zero NFL defensive player of the year votes.

So you wind up with four guys, none of whom is remotely as good as Garrett. It's the equivalent of trading Ohtani for four really good players. Stupid. Ohtani and three other even mediocre guys >>> the four guys you get in return. Ohtani and one good player plus two lousy players >>>>>> four good players, since you have Ohtani and a good player plus two roster spots to improve the team further.
obviously you havent paid close attention to how well the Clowns have drafted lately.

hell, they got a starting QB in the 6th round who had his jersey retired by his college and a statue of his likeness displayed.

that's... kwalatee.

The Rams are all in this year, possibly next year as well to get another Lombardi with Stafford

This move shows a team trying to strike while the iron is hot.

The Stains are all out folding pre-flop, definitely next year as well trying their best to remain cellar dwellers.

This move shows a team trying to add fuel to their dumpster fire.

I think the Rams are just trying to break the “Non-Losing Season” record, what else could they be trying to do. ?

If I were an NFL GM, I’d have a seriously hard time trading a first round pick without knowing if it was #1 or #31.
I think that the Rams' GM knows that his team is not going to have the worst record in the league this year.

Last couple of years, Browns have drafted very well.
This class is way too early to tell anything but has some attractive and some decent questions . Last year they had a decent draft, the year before that garbage. Excuse me if I don’t fear the Browns in anything they do.

Just like the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs never thought they’d go 6-11 in 2024-2025.
Actually the Chiefs were not the Super Bowl champion.

Was 6-11 the worst record in the league? It's not "just like" it at all. How did KC finish the prior 12 seasons?

Don't talk stupid.

The Rams have arguably the best HC in the league who happens to be one of the best offensive minds. The offense is still loaded and they just added Garrett, McDuffie, and Watson to that defense. These are exactly the types of moves the Penguins used to make every year to try to win a Stanley Cup.

You know, if the Browns were smart, they package that first they got and a 2028 or 2029 with a couple seconds and thirds and see if anyone will trade for Watson at the deadline (assuming he looks at least OK..) if they pay them to take that contract...

86 million in voidable year money is a franchise wrecker, and insurance claim loopholes cant cover those years

I will take something that never belongs in a sentence together for 1000 Alex.

Idiot teams sometimes win games... smart teams dont trade a boatload of picks for a guy who had legal issues and potentially wouldnt be playing for two years then give that player a 230 million dollar guaranteed contract before he even played a down for them..
