A “different rule” is thinking Trump can scam as much as he wants because whataboutism. And we’re supposed to have hope for our nation.

You are trying to reason with him. It's a waste of time. He feels comfortable with his beliefs and lashes out when you try to logically and factually explain, it makes him uncomfortable and he freaks out. No point having a conversation with him, as the results are always the same.
While it's not my place to offer advice, I'd simply stop responding to his emotionally laden nonsense, because it's what he craves.
