Steelers 2nd Round Pick - Bernard

From CBS Sports -

47. Steelers: Germie Bernard, WR, Alabama

Grade: A+

If the Steelers wanted to come away with a tackle and receiver in this class, they did about as well as they could have expected, given their draft capital. Bernard is a nuanced route-runner who can create on his own after the catch. While he lacks the juice to be a true downfield weapon, he can get open at the intermediate level consistently.

For a guy without elite size or speed. I gotta say after watching his highlight reel. Guy has a great combination of hands feet and vision. The way he catches and runs soft hands catcher great route runner. Excellent awareness and great field vision, guy finds space with his feet after the catch and reads the defenders like a poor mans leveon bell. I will likely regret the comp. But I really like the pick. We haven't had anyone with close to this skillset in way too long. Exactly what Rodgers needs. And likely asked for.

A movable piece weapon that can block as well.

He was the receiver I most frequently targeted in the 2nd in mocks.

Was a wise decision to move ahead of the Falcons to go get their guy, not too hefty of a price.

Glad they didn’t go into the season with Roman Wilson as “the plan”, if they grab the right late round flyer/UDFAs his days may be numbered…or who knows maybe MM can unlock him and remove him from the junk pile.

I like the pick but was a bit surprised they had to give up their 4th rounder to move up 6 spots. They could have done that in the 1st.

They had 3 thirds. They wanted this guy. I think we should all have wanted him. Im totally fine with the price. After getting leaped over in the first. But this guy looks really good snd to my knowledge zero character issues. Correct Berm? And boy that will be a breath of fresh air.

As I've stated since watching him first step on the field and blossom to WR1 at Bama - he's a Steeler. Combo of Ward & Deebo Samuels but faster.

People talking about his top end speed. Poppy ****. He just gets open. Not like AB or DJ but knows how to get open and catch everything in his zip code.

I'll be buying his jersey fo' sho'!!!

Possibly turn him (Wilson) into the punt / KO return man.

Salute the nation

I think this pick really does solidify our WR room from a weakness to a strength. Imagine if Roman improved some more, and we actually have a QB that will throw to him as well. I believe Roman is also the only WR or TE below 6 feet on the team, and they have speed. That will be tough for D's to handle.

Caught some of NFL Gameday this AM and Steve Smith said out of all the WR picks in the draft, the Steelers got the one with the best fit due to the fact that he can play inside at the slot.

Great to hear. And a great kid from what I gather. They have two non problem children now.

I don't see a big difference between lemon and Bernard, yet one cost a 20 pick and the other was drafted a whole round later, which do you prefer?

Also one is a willing blocker and doesn't act like a diva

Bernard better slot, better blocker, better attitude

Better Steeler!!!

And at a much cheaper price too

I know yinz linked the pick. I was there and immediately thought I know some peeps that will be very happy campers.

He is a Steeler now so I will hope that he resembles Deebo his NFL comparison according to some reports.

I am happy that we have three decent options now instead of one and a bunch of scrubs. 😄
