What should be the first question to McCarthy

McCarthy says you're always developing the QB and highlights he's been blessed to have great QBs, but the QB room needs to emulate the starter. Says he's "excited about Will Howard" and mentioned Aaron coming back again.

He will call the plays on offense and no timeline for the coaching staff, but made it sound like a lot conversations have happened over the past two days.

ARII and Omar said they were "open minded" going into the interview process. I don't believe them based on how the process went.

McCarthy's defensive philosophy is building off what's in place. They want to keep the language the same.

In addition to other qualities, he mentioned he wants young guys on his staff for new ideas and specifically said "you have to have them young dudes, the guys that grind."

The media did pretty well with their questions.

No timeline for Aaron Rodgers. Deferred to Khan regarding this year's QB class.

Mentions he wants WRs flexible enough to play all three positions to create matchup problems for the defense. It all goes back to making life easier for the quarterback.

Can we figure out what part of the language apparently confuses the **** out of half of our players, since we still have "communication" issues? Maybe that language needs to be changed or omitted going forward.

From the presser it is clear that Mike is a genuine Steeler fan. Loved the remark about the family finally being able to wear the gear unapologetically. An Xs and Os guy, an offensive guy. Several mentions of Will Howard. I like what I heard, and his emotions reflect what many of us would be feeling to HC this beloved franchise. Good luck, Mike!!

McCarthy crushed his press conference. I was okay with the hire and feel a little better about it.

I think it's clear that the offense and QB room is still in McCarthy's wheelhouse. He's willing to adapt with the times and will depend on younger members of the staff to bring new ideas. Clearly values defense and seems like he'll trust his DC to run that unit. The dude WANTS to win here. The key is going to be getting a QB and that will be tough.

McCarthy would "definitely" want Aaron Rodgers back at QB. He says he's spoken to Aaron and thinks the time away is important.
Then 3 minutes later says how important a QB's mobility is and how that's been a big change the past 6 years

Thank you for the notes throughout the presser. I really appreciate it!

Coryea, I caught that as well!
Doesn’t make much sense does it?
I think Mike told Art everything he wanted to hear.
Imo terrible, lazy, panic hire.
I don’t know what was worse. The actual hire of the 62 year old twice fired retread, or the ridiculous interview process.
Art II is grandfather Art all over again. Neither was very good running their teams.
Like Yogi Berra once said….Its dejvu all over again.

I was not a huge fan of the hiring, but I will say this. If McCarthy can come in here and re-establish an identity for this team, bring back Steeler football to the burgh, and also re-build a very below average offense in the next 3-5 years I would say that would be a huge success. IF it then gets turned over to a young guy, then so be it. The one benefit to being a life long fan and from the area is that he knows what Steeler football is all about, and it's not the **** we have put on the field for the last decade.

Honestly, I doubt any new head coach wants Rodgers back. This oozes a front office decision, whether it's Khan or ARII. This coach needs to sink or swim with young QBs or take a chance on an upside rehab project like Willis/Jones. What the Steelers cannot do is base the entire offseason around Rodgers.

This also needs to be the offseason the Steelers start to re-sign draft picks rather than put band aids over positions with short-term UFA signings. Start to build a foundation and continue to support it with the draft.

I'm looking forward to getting home and seeing the presser.

Perhaps but Stafford, Maye, Darnold are more pure pocket passers. I think you can win both ways but the main QB better be able to pass and accurately.

I take nothing from the presser today other than what it was meant to be, the official announcement and fluff piece. I am awaiting to see who and how he assembles his staff and players. Talk is one thing, his action is another. I wish him luck. If they finish 6-11 or 4-13 so be it, it would be success in a way to allow more of a rebuild that needs to happen, and I do like McCarthy in place to help steer it.

He said some positive things about " running game". It would be great to have a good one.

What i found profound,,, ? His love and pride in the steelers organization,, even after being in the NFL as a head coach of two other huge franchise names.

To me he was like a kid again.. grew up loving the steelers and hes living his dream,,, and you could feel that in the presser.
