Read a report that EVERY team in the league has contacted his agent. Can't remember where ... maybe bleacher report.
Same here, but I think Ryan Clark was the most recent Steeler of significance from LSU.
Why wouldn't he be able to start for the Steelers? A blue chipper, with talent.... Not like Beachum is an all pro starter. I would think he would def have an opportunity to show he could start.
I guess he could, if he can beat out Beachum or Foster. I know the FO likes both of those guys though. Our FO is just so damn conservative that I can't imagine we would be aggressive enough to sign him.

Teams can’t meet with La’el Collins, yet
“Clubs are prohibited from visiting a player who was eligible for the 2015 Draft at his campus or residence if the player has withdrawn from school and final exams have yet to conclude at the school,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT via email. “This includes drafted players, any undrafted players that have signed as free agents, and any undrafted players that have yet to sign.”
Collins has withdrawn from LSU, and final exams have not concluded there yet. (Finals are happening this week.) So teams can’t visit a player at his campus or residence.
Agent: La’el Collins not meeting with teams at this time
LSU finals are scheduled to last until May 9. Until then, restrictions apply to the direct efforts to recruit Collins.

Maybe there wasn't enough information at the time to make a decision, but if there was, it would have been kinda silly to not take a flyer on this guy in the seventh.
This years offensive line class was rather weak compared to the normal kids coming out of college for the draft. There did not seem to be any potential great players in the draft. The ceiling was good with lots of role players according to the predraft grades. I was also thinking it might be possible to get a left tackle in this or next years draft. I think deljec provided a very good rating and someone posted TMC's rating as well on the linemen and there was not a lot there. One might be able to upgrade Beechum or Foster or Adams but the odds looked just as good that it would not happen. This kid might be an exception to the rule but overall the group was somewhat underwhelming once the top two or three were picked.

Now that Collins is not a suspect in the murder of his ex-girlfriend, teams are lining up for his services. So all 32 teams are silly? It seems clear to me that something was up...either there was concern that Collins was involved in the murder or at some point the NFL or Collins' agent (or both) told teams not to take him because he would rather pick his team than be taken in the 7th.
The timing was just unfortunate. The kid hadn't met with police yet. You really can't draft a guy IN ANY ROUND when there is a cloud hanging over him and that cloud is: did this guy have something to do with the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend?

Obviously he wasn't *literally* a top 10 pick. He was projected as such before this whole mess that has nothing to do with his ability to help a team on the field. So your assertion that there are just all these undrafted players out there better than him is, well, patently ridiculous

This is straight up bullshit!!. There is no way in hell this kid goes undrafted without some sort of collusion. NFL teams draft guys with injuries who may never play just in hopes they may in the future. No way that not a single team would take a gamble on Collins without some sort of mandate from the league.

His agent let it be known that if a team drafted him after the third round, he'd sit out the year w/out signing a contract and re-enter the draft next year.

Yes he did BUT found out later that he would NOT be eligible to re-enter next year's draft. He had to sign as a FA either this year or next IF he did not sign during the draft. The benefit of signing as a UDFA is greater in that his contract will come up after 3 years instead of a possible 5 years as a drafted prospect.
That said, I'm sure Jerry invited him to one of his "parties" to sweeten the deal.

Yep, he could not enter the draft again the next year. I believe his only option if drafted, aside from signing with that team, would be to sit out a year to become a free agent. I would call that bluff. I bet he would have signed with whoever drafted him. You don't have to pay him 7th round money. I bet he would have signed for whichever team drafted him, for about what the cowboys gave him.
This situation stinks. A team like Jax or Tennessee could sure use him, and in a supplemental draft, they may have gotten him. This negates the whole purpose of a draft.
