What the hell has happened to ESPN

The LFL ( ladies football league) has some pretty beefy girls. A body builder dude I know loves that. Thick midsection. Wide thighs. He loved it.

I preferred to watch something else.

ESPN was started by sports fans. They hired sports fans who cared about sports. Then they were bought by Disney, who cares about entertainment. From that point, they stopped caring about sports and only cared about entertainment. Reporting and analyzing sports became an afterthought to creating storylines.

They started hiring "personalities" to create narratives rather than talking sports. That started the slide. It went off the cliff when they began pushing politics. People watch sports to escape that stuff. But again, they were no longer run by sports people, so they didn't understand that.

The result was the rise of podcasts an independent sports websites. You would now get better sports discussion on a message board or a blog, or youtube than on ESPN. They grew in popularity.

Now ESPN is so lost that they have to buy sports people. They had to buy McAfee. They recently bought Bussin with the Boys.

If ESPN were to lose the NFL, they'd have less viewers than the Hallmark Channel. Actually, aside from live sports, I wouldn't be surprised if their ratings are already less.

Whatever that Steve A. and Skip Bayless show was put the dagger in ESPN. Very few things worth watching on the channel outside of live sports.

Tape is right about the personalities. All the ex-players want to hear themselves talk rather than analyze and teach the game. Look at what Ryan Clark has become.

I listen to “Unsportsmanlike” on my ride into work some days. Michelle Smallmon is the star of that show. Chris Canty and Evan Babchick, Babchick especially, are awful. Babchick is, by and large, a clown. He knows dick. Oh and Michelle Smallmon is pretty hot.

Good post Tape!
Disney has destroyed ESPN with the characters they employ and the storylines as Tape says.
Next stop NFL Red Zone! Let’s **** that up next!
Disney should stick with what they do best….. Cartoons and children’s movies.

I no longer have satellite/cable as I have been streaming since PlayStation Vue came out in 2015. Was with that until they closed shop in 2020 and switched to YouTube TV. Just dropped them when they rolled out ESPN Unlimited. I don’t watch any ESPN talk shows. Only live sports and documentaries/etc like 30/30s. I used to look forward to SportsCenter, PrimeTime, NHL2Nite, etc. NO WAY. I tapped out on those shows LONG LONG AGO. But ESPN unfortunately has their hand in all things sports, so almost impossible for me not to watch because they have the WWEs PPVs ( PLEs, if you must ), NHL PowerPlay, SEC Network, and ACC Network. So $300/year for ESPNUnlimited, $200/year HBO max for TNT/TBS sports, $200/year Fox One, $150/year for Paramount Plus, and $150/year for Peacock. All my locals and all the Sports I need for less than I was paying with YoutubeTv, which was $1080/year. Plus I get all the app only exclusives and never have to worry about channels being removed or carriage disputes since I have “all the cows and no bottles of milk).

I don't pay for that crap. It's the city dump. Just like Facebook. Do you want to pick through the garbage at the city dump?

YES

there are many things that are very useable and prime…….. at the city dump. (Scrap heap)

Salute the nation

I have a hard time with their football coverage. NFL Network too. I'm not anti-woman, but I do not want 3 women and 1 male talking to me about the NFL.

I understand having female sportscasters talk about tennis, basketball, swimming, golf, gymnastics, softball - hell even baseball. Those are sports both women and men play and they can provide valuable insight...because they've played the game.

But football? Come on, I don't want a runway blonde model talking to me about the three technique.

[topic that cannot be discussed in this forum] has pushed the envelope too far in certain ways, and ESPN is one the largest perps of it.
they turned “NFL today” into “NFL the view!” I went on there and said that being funny and they blocked me! No sense of humor! But I hate words like “delicious” and “spicy” being used in conversations about football. And man do they hate our qb for being his own man! They hate that!

This thread made me reminice about the good old days of HBO's Inside the NFL with Len Dawson, Nick Buoniconti, and Jerry Glanville. I got to watch it as an Airmen on the Armed Forces Network over seas. I always pictured Len punching Jerry in the gut after each show and then lighting a cigarette and downing Jack Daniels to keep from killing him. HAHA

I barely watch any sports shows or pre- game now. I might kick it on the last 10 or so mins before the game that's about it. The last couple times I saw Cowher he seemed way off as well. He was mixing up people's names, stuttering, and just not making much sense alot of the time.

Yeah I want her in all fours technique

ESPN has been trash for so long they can't even be considered a sports channel.

Or, more along the lines of simile..

ESPN is to sports television what MTV is to music television.

Every Friday night during the football season, they host an old school show called Pro Football Weekly with Hub Arkush, Dave Wannestedt, Dan Hampton, and others. It’s fantastic. They preview every game without the screaming, scantily clad women, and gimmicks.
