Collins is now an Undrafted Rookie Free Agent, which means, he is ineligible to enter next year's draft. He and his agent are putting out reports that they will decide on Monday where they would like to go, problem is, his questioning in the murder case is also Monday. He's a first round offensive line talent, do you make a move for him? if so, what would you offer? Keep in mind, since he's a UFA, there are no salary restrictions to what can be offered.

Personally, I offer him a mid 2nd-3rd round salary, 3 year, $1M signing bonus, and place in the contract that his contract is dependent on the fact he was not involved in the murder in any way. If he goes to trial or is arrested, his contract is void, and he will have to return his signing bonus.

Sorry you can't offer him anything more than a $25,000 signing bonus and the league minimum salary as an UDFA, this is now part of the CBA.

This is what I heard also.

I see nothing but trouble. He doesn't strike me as a person who would use the fact he wasn't drafted where he thought he should be as a chip. He would just expect to get paid.

What is this all based off of? And for him to get paid he will have to bust his *** off to get a second contract with the big money. His first contract will be peanuts.

Dude has "Raider" written all over him....

He's being questioned in a murder investigation.

Maybe we should wait to see if he had something to do with the murder.

Steelers seemed to stay clear of character risks in the draft... but as a undrafted see how Monday plays out and IF he is cleared completely you offer him a contract. Problem is in that event others will be offering him as well. And I am sure he would see other teams as better starting potential quicker.

Collins is either involved in murder or he's not. Assuming he is not involved, he should threaten to sue the NFL for collusion because that's what happened. There is no way in hell not a singke team would have spent a 7 on him just to get his rights unless there was some agreement where nobody would draft him. Subpoena all communications from the league to teams in the hours after the story broke and I'd bet you'll find evidence of the collusion.

Or once the story broke that the victim was a pregnant woman that might or might not be his baby moma everyone just decided that potato was just too hot to touch. Imagine putting a guy on your team that was a cross between hernandez and rice. That is a **** storm no one wants. Also if you looked at the linemen available this year it was not a real great class to choose from, there were some good guys but not great guys.

Cowboys signed Hardy. They have another guy on their team who killed a teammate. Collins was not too hot to touch. You draft him late and you simply say that you will wait to sign him until he is cleared of involvement. I don't think anybody would have a problem with that.

Tape I will say this nobody touched him. I will also add that these guys were not highly ranked this year most were ok and once out of the top good might have been the ceiling.

That Aaron Hernandez thing scared the **** out of the league. Nobody wants that **** in their house. Least of all a crown jewel franchise like the Steelers.

I think the kid is innocent, and I wish him the best. He will never wear the Black and Gold.

No, but I'd sign La'el Collins!

Im guessing some of the finest PI's in the country have been digging into this from the get go... that not one team touched him in the draft means something bad is out there, and the Ray rice thing combined with The Hernendez has everyone running from this stuff.

Imagine for a second that he is completely innocent, that one day he woke up and his ex was dead. Not only does he will feel bad for her, also he literally loses millions because of an incident he has nothing to do with.
Isn't that unfair as hell? Shouldn't it be innocent until proven guilty? Is he so ******* stupid to get her killed just days before the draft?
I just don't think he is involved

Methinks NFL security red flagged him.

Hernendez executed a guy a couple blocks from his house and spat his gum at the body. A fair amount of guys also take drugs right before the known drug test the NFL administers. We aren't talking about rocket scientists here. Also life isn't fair. there is no right to play in the NFL. if he is innocent this sucks, but they don't have to offer him a job.

Yes, it is unfair as hell if he is innocent, but being drafted isn't a right.

Never underestimate the stupidity of people. Look at Hernandez. He made it easy for the cops.

this country it is guilty until proven innocent

and how much money do you have for a lawyer

system is flawed but isn't going to be changed any time soon

I hope we sign him. Nobody "knows" anything right now. If it turns out he was involved, cut him. What have we lost?

I'm with you Litos - something isn't right; but, if Ray Rice can appeal and get "reinstated" - if this young man is innocent - then the NFL needs to pink up and pay him what he would have made over no less than 10 years in the NFL...
Methinks NFL security red flagged him.
Methinks that there may be a pending lawsuit...

It's why if we had any kind of commissioner with leadership he would have removed the player from the regular draft and allowed him to enter the supplemental draft assuming that he is completely not involved in the situation.

EDIT. Sorry this in response to Tape

Actually he wasn't drafted in later rounds because he had his agent tell all the teams he would refuse to sign with anyone who drafted him outside of the 3rd round. He thought he was eligible to reenter the draft next year, he was wrong. And now, he will make even less than if he was drafted round 4 or 5, or 6.
