College Football Week 1

Allar had a great game. Last year, the passing game was off because the WRs were awful and Allar sometimes had footwork issues which led to some missed throws. His footwork looked better, he was more accurate and the WRs actually got open.

Last year, Allar also seemed to hold the ball at times, waiting to actually watch his WR make the break before throwing it. On a 10 yard out, the WR may have run it at 8 or 12 yards, so Allar wasn't sure when they'd break. Yesterday, he threw with more anticipation, knowing the WR would be in the right spot.

Last year, the WRs only got open when they were schemed open or the defense blew a coverage. I know it was only Nevada, but last year's WRs struggled to get open vs lesser opponents. Against Bowling Green, Penn State was losing at halftime. They had to throw. Penn State WRs finished with 3 total receptions.

That's the main takeaway. The WRs are greatly improved. Hudson not only got open, but he made a few difficult catches that likely would have been dropped last year. Pena is a great route runner. Davonte Ross is the speed burner who didn't play as much.

Nevada played a lot of cover 3 which is why PSU didn't throw deep much. They took the outside underneath and intermediate stuff that's open.

I get it, it's only Nevada, but it's still a tremendous improvement over least year's WRs who didn't dominate against MAC teams.

The other observation is they are still experimenting with the OL. They've said they have 7 quality starters and they all played. It seems they are still mixing and matching to decide on the starting 5. That's why the run game wasn't great. I'm not concerned about that. If this was game 3, I'd be a bit concerned but they have some time to experiment before they get Oregon in game 4.

Players are drafted on abilities, not accomplishments. That's how Trey Lance and Anthony Richardson are high picks with spotty production.

Sellers will be the swing for the fence pick. If Carolina stinks and has a top pick again, it likely means Bryce Young struggled again. They may not be able to resist the somewhat hometown QB.

Somebody mentioned Green earlier in the year, may have been you.

I don’t follow college much, so didn’t know his name well. I’ve since watched some stuff on his and I’m a fan.

Curious to see how sellers does tonight, but Taylen Green has my attention.

Yeah, I’ve been the one pimping him

At 6’6 with solid arm talent and excellent mobility there is a lot to like…and he keeps improving with every level of competition he steps up to (which to me shows a certain intangible I highly covet in a QB/leader).

He reminds me of Randall Cunningham a bit, and in today’s NFL that’s not a bad thing.

I predict Carolina continues its slow climb out of the gutter it has been on with Bryce. Maybe 7-8 wins this year? It seems Tepper is finally letting football guys make football decisions (meddling owners can really screw a team-see Jerrah 🤣).

Bryce looked good closing out last season. There was quite a bit of improvement down the stretch. Was very competitive vs both the Eagles and Chiefs. Probably should’ve beat the Eagles with better receivers not dropping key catches.

He has better weapons (in theory) this year, though he will miss his one consistent route runner Theilen.

That team needs a TE for him desperately though. A TE can definitely be a Young QBs best friend.

If they really want a “hometown” QB I’d trade em Mason for WR Coker in a heartbeat 🤣

Ok who are the next two opponents for Penn State?😏
High school team week 1, JV team week 2, middle school team week 3. Honestly, their bye week practicing against themselves will be a stiffer test than any of their first three opponents.

Looks like I’m in the minority on this one… but..Don’t overlook the Gamecock Sellers ..
Everytime I watch him play he is very solid..
Big kid too..

Exactly.. college production doesnt correlate to pro success. Tgat is particularly true of QBs... here are qb college stat leaders

Look at that who's who of mostly NFL losers...

There used to be a running joke about how awful hiesman winning QBs were in the pros...

Its just a different game

Teams either draft pire passing ability and hope the kids atheticism holds up or pure athleticism and hopes the kids passing ability develops, but its a huge crapshoot... probBly more than any other position
