Cam Heyward wants a new deal

I guess I’m kinda looking long game

GP already admittedly came out and said he forced his way out, but he wasn’t considered a team leader by any stretch of the imagination.

Cam is/was a damn team captain acting like a hypocritical fool and tryna hold the team hostage.

Im just wondering how many L’s the FO is looking to stack up in an offseason. They just keep looking weaker and weaker…weaker yet if they cave to Cam.

Can’t get a solid free agent to WANT to come here, have to make trades and overpay to replace guys that forced their way out (with lateral moves).

Have to trade away defensive assets for aging problem players.

The only free agents that come in are guys on their last leg, or fringe role players.

Sadly, not a desired destination and it is known around the league despite the Mike allegedly being a players’ coach. Khan certainly has his work cut out for him. It’s going to take some miraculous drafts to restock the cupboard. At least there should be a good amount of assets going into next year’s restock attempt…and who knows maybe Aaron can miracle a streak breaker on his way out of the league.
Compared to team leaders of past years.....I never considered Cam a real team leader. They set things straight in the locker room. Cam loves to voice his thoughts to the media. Simply not a true real team leader. I throw Watt in there also. He simply doesn't voice any leadership. He has stated he likes to lead on the field. The team lacks a true leader of the lockerroom. For years now. At one point we hand probably to many. We were winning SBs at that point though. Cam has zero clue how to be a true lockerroom leader as the players that were there when he was drafted. Sad he couldn't pick anything up of what a true leader is.

I dont disagree with one word of this. All Im saying is there is the theoretical world and there is the practical one. I wouldn't want to make the call.

Completely agree
Sad that a team Captain is not a leader
That shows an obvious leadership void

Cam had Darius Slay and Jalen Ramsey on his podcast to plead with Omar to pay him. Completely embarrassing display, sounded like hostages reading a prepared statement.

I haven’t seen a player bungle a contract dispute this poorly since Le’Veon Bell.
Yep, the same Le'Veon Bell that Cam called out by name during a contract dispute, which I thought was an unwritten rule that players don't call out other players during a contract dispute, but Cam did just that, look at Cam now.

Hines held out.
Except...

Ward considered holding out in 2004, but Dan Rooney and Jerome Bettis talked him out of it. In 2005, he made a different decision. Ward missed the first two weeks of training camp. He finally showed up on the sidelines for the first pre-season game. On September 5th, he signed a four-year extension for $25.83 million. That season Ward earned a Super Bowl ring and co-MVP honors (along with Casey Hampton). Ward would later say the holdout is something he will always regret.

Cam caved and was back at practice today.

Did anyone hear DK and Rodgers take shots at Cam and his contract on the podcast? They were joking, but pretty funny.

Any idea if as a “hold-in” or was it full practice and he is playing?

I get what you're sayin. But they got Aaron Rogers, made a horrific trade for Metcalf and paid top top dollar. Signed Watt to a contract he probably can't fulfill., traded for what will probably be a terrible contract in a couple years with Ramsey. They got a lot of chips in and you probably want Cam on the field. So make something that saves face for everyone and broom him next year.
Why wouldn't Watt be able to fulfill a three-year contract extension?

Maybe he was reading some comments and gathering receipts and had an epiphany

Maybe there was some back room talk of incentives, if he was actually practicing

Hard to say at this point, but at least he appears to have dislodged his head from his ***…and that’s a good thing for all parties involved

Play pissed off, win DPOY and force em to pay ya Cam…but above all, win a couple/few playoff games

Looks like Cam blinked.

Might have got dust in his eye but, more likely he saw the Benton / Harmmon duo and saw they were being productive……. Cam didn’t want to lose his place in line…….. so much for missing actual season games…….

Had he held out to actual games (Hold-out) he knew he would be just forgotten about and a year older with another year of service due to contract, and same price.

Because he got more money then he did in just last contract. He isn't going to play better then the last contract and statistically he us going to lose at least one season.
Watt got more money, but the salary cap has increased significantly since his last deal. So his new contract, as a percentage of the cap, is lower. And the fact that it was just a 3-year extension makes fulfillment much more likely.

I highly doubt he will play all four seasons nor that in the last two he will be putting up huge numbers.

I'm starting to not really care what he does but if he cannot justify playing for 15 million then quit. **** or get off the pot. But in my opinion the league has to start to look at these situations and intervene. The roster bonus held in escrow paid only if actually playing.

I thought this was another zombie thread brought back llto life. He just signed a Fng contract and is almost at retirement age, the 3rd year was practically gift by the team, maybe he just wants guaranteed money on that contract ? Else it makes zero sense.

Maybe he saw that the shiny new draft pick is making waves and is worried they cut his *** after this season?
Maybe there's a compromise. No additional salary, but the team can set him up with a marketing deal with AARP. As a bonus, maybe Aaron can cash in on that too.
