Kaboly says Steelers Listening to trade offers for Watt

The past two seasons the defense hasn't carried them, 2023 the offense had back to back 30 point games in 2 of the final 3 games in must win games, and this past year the D was totally embarrassed in that 3 game stretch vs Balt, Philly, KC.

The D should be carrying the team, it's the highest paid, or one of the highest paid in the NFL.
If your offense is the 31st in the league and your defense is in the top 10 - the tables are still turned in the wrong direction for positive results.

Face it, the offense has sucked since Ben got hurt and retired... we could have all 11 defenders as the top paid in their positions and still would be where we are today - mediocre.

I was referring to the end of the season, but as I said a couple posts down, the defense has absolutely been the better unit by far since Ben retired, and it has carried the offense way more than the other way around, but I was just referring to the last few games of the past two seasons.

Oh the defense has definitely carried us the majority of the time since Ben left, that's for sure, I agree it's been the much better unit.
In 2017, that defense didn't have to carry the team, the offense scored like 30+points per game over the last 7 weeks of the season, and that defense still got it's *** handed to them by an offense led by Blake Bortles.

The defense being run down or tired has nothing to do with Watt being told to just ignore Lamar and just go hit the RB every play this past post season vs Baltimore.
The defense in 2017 was not a good as the defenses over the past 3 seasons.

Problem statement - The Pittsburgh Steelers are a lopsided team.

Solution - Being in to tier talent in offense (coaches/coordinators included).

Basic statements that I believe have been addressed over the past 2 seasons. Cancerous players have been replaced if they can't tow the line. All the chips have been placed on the table - it's POs or BUST, baby...

Lead the league in forced fumbles, still had 11.5 sacks (and if that's a "down" year, ok then), and had the focus of every team, every week...more so than every other year. I don't see an issue with Watt, I see an issue with the rest of the DL and LB core. Hopefully the new blood can help with that, but the others have to step up more when they are 1 on 1 because Watt is getting doubled and chipped every play...
Father time catches with everyone.

We did just trade for Ramsey. He wasn't playing nice with the coaches in Miami. Late to meetings etc. I sure Mikey will handle him though. His track record says so........🤔

Again, Harrison's great seasons/games came with LeBeau running the defense, that's the difference.
Everyone is bringing up Watt, but ignoring the fact Heyward has played in more post season games and has 1 sack.

I’m by no means defending Cam’s lack of postseason success either, just another player in NHALS culture.

By all accounts a good guy, but his most prestigious award to date is a WPMOY.

And I like BACON
And Lombardis too

Man they were fun

Everyone seems to be arguing one side or the other. You do know that BOTH things can be true at the same time, right?

TJ did not forget how to play his position, and thought you were supposed to just tackle the RB ONLY. Tomlin was so scared of the RB killing them that he sold out to stop him at all costs. Now this is fine if the other players are going to pick up the slack on the backside. Those players did not get it done, so having TJ play only one player was a poor plan to continue the whole game. That would have been a very good time to adjust, if the HC had that ability.

How many times did you see Woodley or Harrison chipped then doubled? Hell go back and count how many times there were just doubled, it was very seldom, because teams couldn't afford to do that because a blitz could be coming from anywhere at any time.

James was a force.

He wasn’t doubled as much as Watt because he didn’t bow down to lord Goodell, quite the opposite…he would give him the bird.

So they just allowed James to be held without repercussions for it, like it was a league directive that holding him was A OK, because it was the only way to stop him.

Go back and count how many times he was being absolutely mugged in games without penalties…no need to double and chip as much when the league just allows a player to be held.

Different circumstances and different league operations.

Hard to say how much he would have been doubled and chipped if the endless holding wasn’t permitted.

But alas even with the constant mugging he still made great things happen and yielded positive results including the ultimate goal.

Again not saying Watt ain’t great
He is
In the regular season

Hopefully someday he’ll show out when it matters

Maybe this year he’ll develop a taste for BACON

Clase Azul Reposado

This post made me do it!

Thanks Berm

I would wonder sometimes if they wouldn't call holding, because if they did like they should have, the games would have went 5 hrs. With a lot of standing around. It seemed like he was held that much.

I agree that was a stupid coaching overreaction against Lamar. While I generally support the defensive staff more than the o, they certainly have their idiot moments. The jags game was a culmination of missing the heart of our interior defense turning the ball over and a team that just seem to play us hard back then every game.

Simply can’t throw that many flags
And it became known

You act like he's gonna be 35, nope that's slay, or 36...that's Cam. He'll be 31, hardly "old". He still has 2-3 great years left, and easily 3-4 solid years left.
If the Steelers think his output in the next 3 or 4 years will be the same output over the past 3 or 4 years they should pay the man. Wonder what the hold up is?

Don’t give up BACON, that’s a year round sport.!!!!

Salute the nation

Guaranteed money. Watt got the most ever given up by the steelers in the first extension with 80m, but a lot of that was bonus. $35m to be exact, the total guarantees were 80m. His 22 and 23 salaries were guaranteed, 24 and 25 were not.

If we look at Garrett's contract, 4 years 160m. Sporttrac has 123.5m guaranteed, over the cap has 88.8m guaranteed. Both say they can cut him in 2029 and save 54-58m with only 10m dead cap.

He got a $21.5m signing bonus. He has a $1m workout bonus guaranteed the first three years of the deal, as well as $1m per game roster bonus guaranteed the first three years of the deal. After that, there are option years that kick in if he's on the roster the 3rd day of each league year starting in 28. The browns FO built in options for the team they can exercise starting in 26.

So since guaranteed money is the hold up, we can only assume it's how many years they are willing to stretch guaranteed money into and how much. But judging from Garrett's, he's prob asking for 41m/year, and 122m guaranteed.

Comparing Watt to Harrison is dumb. Harrison had the benefit of blitzes and did not have to deal with 2/3 guys blocking him constantly. He also had other help on the DL. Our current DL is constantly outnumbered and we just lose the numbers game. I guarantee you LeBeau would never tell Harrison to tackle Henry w/ or w/o the ball. We also had a guy like Hampton who would eat up 2 blocks and let the LBs make plays. In our current system our LBs are busy chasing WRs around. We also had DEs who were coached to maintain containment even if it wasnt flashy. We have the talent to be very good, but our defense is like a pre-season defense for most teams.
Who knows what other idiotic things TJ was told in previous playoff games. The Balt game just obvious because the whole world could see it. Could TJ go against the coaches sure, but I feel like he is the type of guy to respect the scheme / playcall regardless of how dumb it is. When you get to the playoffs and play passive it is easy to scheme around an edge rusher no matter how great they are. Look at what happened when Pickett / Pickens won the Baltimore game. Canada was disgusted, which is assinine.

Can't argue that at all but the game "as we know it" no longer exists.

With that being said, I suggest that we ask be happy with mediocrity because the league is corrupt and... done.
That Tomcept is not ok with me.
It's a version of bread and circuses.
Have some more soma.
