Unenthusiastic about the off season

Yeah, the thrill is definitely tempered...
again, I dont think Tomlin is without merit, its just that coaches have expiration dates in an org... Chuck Noll was the Best ever, but does anyone think had he coached ten more years, he would have won anything?
Cowher managed to have that magical run in 05.... but if he stayed, we probably dont try to convert the O into more of a passing game and maybe never win in 08... his style died in 05... probably why he never coached again

You have to innovate and adapt... older coaches in the same place never have to do that... so we know next year the o will be a bunch of safe but ineffective plays.. the D will get beaten as teams figure out what the wrinkle of the season is, and we go back to the same stale defense... its just boring , really...
I can't agree with the Cowher thing, I think what everyone forgets, and the local media guys pile on the narrative that those teams ran the ball and just asked Ben to not make a mistake, but alot of games went the opposite, we threw early and killed the clock with the run game after we got the lead, the 05 playoff run was a prime example, even Ben's rookie season, the NE and Philly games back to back winning them both, Ben threw early in those games. I think Cowher actually was making that change once he got the franchise QB, If Cowher would've stayed as long as Tomlin, I think we win a couple more. Cowher actually allowed his coordinators to do their jobs.

You got it Coryea, and thanks for al your great post(s) along the way.

I remember many people calling Ben just a game manager. All they ever do is run run run. I always said bull-****, do you not watch the games? Ben was so efficient in his passing game, he usually had them out front far enough to burn clock and run.

With the Franchise QB, Cowher most defiantly was making the proper adjustments. In 2005, teams were still successful with the run game. It wasn’t like it is today as many “offensive favor” rules have been passed since then, making it way more favorable for quick hit scores. It was common to see Ben with 19 / 24 passing numbers. Jerome / Willie brought them home.

not really paying attention to the off season. I mean, I have always enjoyed coming on during the off season and reading about potential draftees or free agency activities.
I am with yoy Shane....I literally just came here to say the same damn thing...Tired of the every damn day BS YOUTUBE trade rumors from Jack Sperry all off season...

I honestly don't care what they do or who they sign this offseason. I just don't think it matters with the current set up. The owner has made it pretty obvious he doesn't care either.

He can say he does, but his actions or inactions say otherwise.

So it's a big shoulder shrug and whatever for me. I'll find other **** to do. The only thing that will motivate them is losing $$$$$$$ and that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Everything i loved about the team since childhood is pretty much dead and gone now. Just the colors remain.

Get back to me when we’re in the AFCCG or have a new coach.

The whole Tomlin non losing season and the ‘above the means’ bullsh!t really has helped to contribute to me not really paying attention to the off season. I mean, I have always enjoyed coming on during the off season and reading about potential draftees or free agency activities. I really was hoping they decide to tank for next years draft with a solid QB class. We know that is not in their DNA.

My apologies gents and ladies for lack of properly using the forum this off season. Just tired of Tomlin and company p!ssing down our legs while trying to convince us it’s raining.

I read how you are like nearly everyone else: not enthusiastic about anything to do with this team, how could you be? Mediocre Mike is still here, Art II is still the owner, equates to no improvements. Same ole, same ole, nothing has changed, nothing has improved. We are in for seasons until Tomlin is given his walking papers and that's not gonna happen until Art is yanked.

A lot of this has been covered, but to rehash a bit....

1.) Shades is showing no new anything, same old sh--. Nothing new, not the DC, no new OL coach, no new anything. If anything, we are seeing less change than EVER, so we can expect the exact same results. What has Meyer done to prove he deserves to stay? What about Austin? Nothing, just followed orders of Shades. There is a reason no teams have shown any interest in Pgh coaches: cheap order takers who just go along with what Shades wants and in case you missed anything discipline is not a top marching order. The sloppiness is allowed and spreads to every element of the team. Sloppy, unorganized and chill. Not the recipe for success.

2.) What is Art II's plan? Does he have 1? Pay a few (1?) coaches all the $ and jip everyone else off? Make no waves, go cheap with scouts, etc. Pay Shades top $ and pay everyone else bottom $? Strength coach and facility? Never mind, don't worry about that stuff. Those players who want to take working out seriously, go off campus because the Steelers just don't care about leading edge training, those players that do, have to find that training elsewhere.

3.) Speaking of training and facilities, Pgh rated 28th in the league on that in the most updated report card.

https://nflpa.com/report-cards/2025/pittsburgh-steelers

Among the highlights/lowlights:

Ownership - D
Strengthcoach - C-
Weightroom - C+ (28th out of 32)
Locker room - D
Head coach - A

I guess the head coach was graded on how much he let players play foosball and air hockey.
It sure wasn't on discipline, player development or play calling.

Reports last season that visiting players complained that the locker room smelled of urine. No word on what the headccoaches office smelled like.
Did the complaints come from Kansas? If so, it was probably due to Cleveland being the previous visitors.

The trade rumors are oh so played out, it's if the team doesn't realize how obvious their fake "rumors" are. How about last season's endless shuck and jive with us getting a big name WR was, that lasted all of 5 months? And nothing ever materialized. How weak was that sh--?

I believe it had the aroma of foozle.

The gist of this thread is exactly how I feel. Like Slash, I’m trying to separate the free agency season and draft from reality but it ain’t working. I’m usually looking forward to the next two months but I’ve lost that loving feeling.
Whoa, that lovin feelin
You've lost that lovin feelin

Now it's gone

gone

gone

whoa-oh-oh-oh

Please go back to your rock you been hiding under for the last month.

But he will add his worthless drivel continuously to every thread and comment on every post, wether it’s needed or not.

More of a re-rehash.

I hate the off-season.
Oh really? Well, judging how this team played the last 5 games (all L's) you musn't like the on-season too much either. Oh, and the postseason fed us with another consecutive loss just incase you're wondering, that's 8 seasons in a row without a playoff win. How many coaches keep their job after 8 seasons without a single playoff win?

this is innovative new thinking

Really? The last 5 games were all losses?
Damn.

Not a playoff win in 8 seasons either?
Damn.
