Keisel Released

I've been his biggest supporter since he was only playing on special teams, but he's not going to Canton. Now, if they add a "role model" wing to the HOF, he's a first ballot choice.
Thanks Brett.

This is a business, gents - and like we all knew - it had to end at some point. This saves the team a nice chunk of change.

Thank you Mr. Keisel for your services. You will be revered and we'll see you in Canton in 5 years!!!

Berm, did you find a square grooper down there or something?????? WTF canton, must have been a typo or something.......maybe yaz ment, like bret may be there on behalf of Dawson or someone of that nature................

Salute the nation

Absolutely loved what Keisel brought to this team, especially as a seventh rounder. Best wishes to him.

They must believe that he is no longer effective off the injury. Hard to believe Thomas still has a job and that they let not just one but two young prospects get away last year.

Ain't no way Keisel is going to Canton, although it couldn't happen to a better guy. 3-4 Ends don't get anywhere near the stats necessary to get that kind of recognition. If they did, Aaron Smith would be going. That guy was such an amazing DE in this defense. Keisel is one that the Steelers should go out of their way to keep with organization in some capacity. If he still wants to play and they don't have a spot for him, then fine. But I would certainly hope there is an offer on the table to the effect of, "Hey Keis go ahead and finish out your career somewhere else if you want keep playing but as soon as you're done, come on back, retire a Steeler and we'll find you a job on the org." That's the kind of guy you want around. No bad for a 7th Rounder aye?

Yeah, you're right...got caught up in the "the moment". He was a helluva a turnout for a 7th rounder!!!

Thanks for everything, Beard.
I think it's more a matter that the team figures that at his age at that position he won't have any injury-free seasons. I think Aaron Smith was on IR each of his last three seasons. Remember Tombert didn't want him last year either.

Sounds like the only Cowher guys left is Ben and Miller, Harrison if he comes back. Can anybody think of any one else from the days of Bill?

If the stories are correct, Ben was, essentally, forced upon Bill, so I don't know if you should, truly, consider him a "Cowher guy".

Greg Warren, who will be the long snapper until he is 50.

That's when he was picked and I have no idea how many other guys were forced upon Bill but never the less that is when he made the team. One could say the same for Willie Parker as he was spotted by one of the Rooney's and then recommended via that route, having gotten past the scouts and apparently everyone else.

Forgot about him and at this point what difference does it make if he is 50 he delivers the ball accurately and on time consistently. When you think of it the long snapper is probably held to the highest standard of anyone on the team when it comes to job performance. That is not meant to be a smart *** comment Ron, it is just that he needs very little in the way of athletic ability for his position, just a very unique skill.

Oh I hear ya, I'm just saying he doesn't get as much wear and tear and hits as an every-down player. We saw how well the backup long-snapper, James Harrison, did when Warren did go down with an injury.
My dad played FB and long-snapper in college ball. He could still do a passable long snap with a decent spiral until he was almost 70 and his arthritis got bad.

Keisel has a great career. A good player who made the pro bowl. and leaves the game with two super bowl rings.

Thanks for your time and efforts with the Steelers Brett. Best of luck with your life endeavors. Ordering the shadow box now for your jersey. Stay healthy.
